In this weeks video I’ll be doing a makeover on my front door. I’ve been wanting to do this for well over a year so I finally did it ❤️❤️
Not sure that I love it, but I attempted a faux wood look front door.
I also was able to get in the backyard and do a little bit of cleanup.

Oh the reactions were hilarious 😆 😂 I think the door looks fab. Like others have said wood isn’t perfect so the door looks very natural. I’m always amazed at how brave you are with DIY projects. I love the look. As a perfectionist I think that it would drive me crazy too. If you can’t get past the imperfections by spring, I think you’ll be relieved if you redo it with the improved techniques you learned the first time around.

Jodi, Your front door looks amazing!! It truly looks like it's a wood door. Wow!! When you have your shutters painted think about going with a wood look rather than black. I think wood would stand out against your brick color and they would look rich like your front door.

My pomeranian furbaby(7.5yrs) had teeth cleaning, a fatty lump and a hernia removed yesterday, was diagnosed with an enlarged heart also, so was a good/horrible day for me and your video just made me feel so better and kept my mind off it for awhile. Thanks bunches jodi.

Omg that door is PERFECT! If you look up pictures of actual wood doors, they probably have the same imperfections that you see on your door. And just like your guests who loved it..nobody sees the small things you see that you don’t like about it. I am the same way when I’m crafting or painting. Love it!

The door and sidelights are amazing! I love the wood look. Can't see the imperfections you don't like. Such a difference. Really makes the brass hardware pop. I hope you keep it. So glad you got a few bags done in the backyard. The pick-up crew I'm sure were worried last week with no bags from you 😉 The deer family was wonderful to see. I love the wood look! Good job! In reality, wood is not perfect! There’s color variations, dents, and knot holes. I’ve watched videos of people who build faux beams. They use all kinds of tools to add imperfections to the wood to make it look more realistic! I totally get being a perfectionist though! When I crochet a project, I’ve ripped out rows and rows to fix a stitch that I missed that no one else would even notice!!! 🤷‍♀️😁

Love the door. You could feather out the dark areas with a dry brush. Wood naturally has darker imperfections so it's naturally perfect right?

Yes! This would work! Pick a small brush, and maybe an actual artists brush and pull the areas out. Maybe take a picture of some pretty wood grain pattern you like and make a similar pattern.✌️

Jodi I think it looks great !!!!!! But as a ocd crafter , diy-er I get it. My suggestion is if it's eating away at you just redo the wood look on the door part right on top 🤷‍♀️ That's what I would do because I'm crazy and I obsess on things 😆 Project tip: Always , always always buy more chip brushes than you think you need for a project ! They sell them by the case ( small box ) 😂

I like the door. My door is dark wood. It has dark spots. Wood isn't perfect, it is the darker areas that give it the character. Great job. I am excited to see what other flowers open up.

The door looks so good. My husband and I have redone our whole house. We notice the imperfections that no one else does because we did it. If it still bothers you later, you should be able to just redo the section of the door you don't like.

Oh my gosh Jodi...i watched you paint the door orange and then start applying the gel stain....all i could do was shake my head and wander what you was thinking. The door turned out amazing. I think a nice deep chocolate brown door and shutters would look great, or black OR a deep navy blue door and shutters. I can see how the door would drive you a bit crazy but it looks ok. It's almost winter, so you have till the summer to figure out if your keeping it like that or not. Hugs xoxo

Jodi..the door is stunning! I think the couple of imperfections are just fine…wood is not perfect either. The same thing happened to me while staining a book shelf for the first time. I now have learned what not to do but I didn’t go back and fix the imperfections and I’m use to it and no body notices. 😊 Loved you laughing by yourself with the reactions from Donna Jean and hubs 😂

I like the door! If it keeps bothering you, try a touch up before doing the whole thing. I was actually surprised how well that worked! I think some Dahlias bloom late, anyway. My tomatoes are still trying to produce, so I wonder if we won’t get a little warm spell. The dahlias , though, did so well! Did I miss if you fertilized them? My friend had huge ones this year and said the fertilizer was the key.✌️♥️

I like the new door. The glass really shows up against the wood tones. Most people will be viewing it from a distance but if you don't like it could you try again? Second coat maybe would turn out with a smoother look. I don't know if a second coat is possible with gel stain. I have a feeling that a light sanding and a retry would do the trick!❤
