Thank you for this review. I had seen a couple of negative reviews previously that complained that the mechanics of the game weren't modern enough, but your description of how they actually work makes them sound appealing to me. When I see a trend of a recent game being criticized for not being sufficiently modern, I begin to suspect this is a superficial criticism from people who didn't find the game flashy enough for them because they mistakenly think that novelty and quality are always the same thing. As for me, I will definitely be getting this game.
Happy to hear that! Yeah there a few reviews that I just didn't get from some sources. Like how Tactics Ogre Reborn is perfect, because of its modern updates, but FM1 is bad because all it really got was a new coat of paint.
@@SwitchStrats I would suspect that some of the same people complaining about how the mechanics of Front Mission didn't change in the remake would also complain if a game like Chrono Trigger were remade and the mechanics were changed. If something works well, there isn't a need to fix it and there is also the risk of losing something special the game had if there are changes to the mechanics of the game. Change itself doesn't have any inherent value, it is only as good or bad as the changes themselves are. It's annoying when reviews and players don't seem to realize this and assume anything that isn't novel isn't of quality.
So thankful we’re getting an English physical release of this by Microids. The Front Mission series is super under-appreciated and I’m thrilled we’re getting these remakes to be able to own and play on the Switch. Can’t wait! Review was very well done. Was super glad to hear your positive take on all of it - was bummed at hearing/seeing so many negative reviews. The difficulty option at the beginning of the game is a lifesaver for someone like me who isn’t the best at strategy games, too!
Yeah you are right. I heard people state that Front Mission 1's story is "basic" and stuff when that's not true. There are good stories and bad stories, Front Mission 1 has a good story. Many Japanese stories revolve around tropes, I don't find it bad in a game that is a strategic game first and foremost, if the story is not trying to bring the moon down. If it be a RPG I would expect a little bit more, because the game basically revolves around the story mainly. As for Tactics Ogre Reborn, I like it. Graphically it is great, the one and only thing I don't like is the RNG in "Auto-Skills" activation(I'd rather have the TPs back to be used) and I don't care that much about those Cards that spawn. Otherwise I like it, it's great. The one thing I would have liked to see in it though, is a Final Fantasy Tactics like 360 degree camera movement possibility.
@@SwitchStrats Yeah I rather have a basic story revolving around tropes, then a bad story trying to reach the stars and failing. Thanks for the answer!
My only gripe with the remake is how the battle scene with the wanzers just standing is really bad even compared to the original, they should just added a dynamic entrance to the wanzers like the 2 game did.
Will you review front mission 2 and 3 remake when it comes out. Also front mission 1 pc and other ports are coming out,and they seem to be more good, graphics are good, some more stuff is added. Tho only demo is available as of now on PC
I hope they make remake of front mission 3, 4 and 5. I played fm 3 in PS1, fm 4 in PS2 and fm 1 in DS. I never played border of madness and scar of war, no english translation.
Bron you took a shot at journalists and then said the game runs smoothly. It absolutely CHUGS during the late game cut scenes. You also mentioned not seeing any fixes...which as a statement by itself could be construed as a good thing since you didn't bring up any issues (currently half way through the video). The issue comes in where I'm on my third run through and can't get the first secret mission to trigger (Olson is stuck on the text that suggests I haven't fought Mei yet, obviously I have). Ditto for the final secret pilot. Also Shields aren't programmed correctly and a small memory leak can crash the game if you go for 4‐6 hours without restarting the game. These are just the issues I've caught. Pretty sad considering this is a remake of a remake. Literally 20 years to make sure this stuff got ironed out. I love the game but I'm very disappointed.
Really, didn't experience any chugs late game myself. However, it does seem the devs recently added some updates and fixes on some reported issues. So, I hope that betters your experience!
@@raedienThat's weird. Being RNG and all, IT IS possible, but that didn't happen to me even on NG+ with an OP Natalie! I'm surprised you would destroy Olson during the process of her switching sides.
