Doing rear side them m12 bolts are no joke tried everything are the bolts threaded through hub and wheel bearing or do they slide through the hub and thread just into the bearing ?
I need to replace the Axle on passenger front side. I am wondering if the ball bearing in the outer cv joint is inside the joint or in the wheel bearing? The Ball Bearing that i saw behind the plastic protector thing, was just crushed, and a ball fell out when i opened it. Do i need to replace the Wheel Bearing or just the Axle+Outer CV joint? I have only ordered the Axle+Inner+Outer CV Joint.
The bearing in the CV joint is part of the CV joint under the rubber boot. The wheel bearing in this video is a separate component on which the entire hub and wheels turn. You can replace the cv axle separately, just make sure you use the same torque-down procedure as shown here. I have a separate video on replacing the cv axle on my channel. ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-uAWDG1dr58w.html
I don't have a brand preference. I'd generally avoid buying the cheapest thing out there, a mid range product will do. Paying top price for OE quality parts is imho a waste of money on an old car as it's highly unlikely that the car will last another 150k miles.
I'm sure it's possible provided you have a shop with a hydraulic press and you manage to track down the exact model of bearings used. From a car repair standpoint the part is replaced as a unit and as such is easily doable at home.
@@MotoringCultureMagazine thx for the answer. I will change it at my mechanic. I was considering costs when I said I want to change only the bearings not the entire unit.
There is. When you torque it down with that much force the neck of the bolt stretches a certain amount. Doing that repeatedly and the bolt will fail, most likely in a high speed corner with the weight of the car on that wheel. Even if it doesn't snap it will loose it's original tensile strength and your bearings will wear out very quickly.
My audi seems to be slightly different. I only have 3 bolts for the wheel bearing and I can't get the drive shaft out of the way in order to get to the bolts. I'm stuck :(
It took me a good two hours but I'm not a mechanic. A professional could probably do it in one hour. They will charge you what ever they can get away with but it should be their hourly rate x 1.
Only ment to change wheel with and you have to be realy careful when putting it down making sure its as steady as possible, but yea they are no good, i have in car for emergency in chase i neeed to plug wheel, but home you should have a garage jack its much safer and better, also if possible have to things that you put under to support in chase jack fails dont remember what its called but be carefoul and keep doing it self much money saved.=)
That jack almost made the car fall on me on the side of the road when I had a blowout on the freeway. That jack is garbage, only use in an extreme emergency
