wow... this tip about the use of breaks is very cool... I see in my region must of the pilots have a misconception about active piloting and excessive braking... less speed, a canopy always fighting to reach trim speed... oh gosh... thanks for sharing this golden tips...
Best with frontals is not too brake until it shoots and then break really hard. Because the glider has a lot of drag when collapsing, so pulling brake in that moment is bad. When it shoots und you just apply a small amount of brake the wing will shoot even more because the airflow on the profile is better. So doing nothing at all or break hard the moment it shoots in front of you are the best options.
Only on this maneuver and only if you let off the speed bar already and only if the front doesn’t stick in and only if it does it need you to manually restart it because it’s slow and old and out of trim. On every other maneuver there is some thing that you better do proactively to fix it. Don’t apply the trust the glider rule anywhere else.
Interesting what you say about not getting a second frontal after the first. On my accelerated collapse tasks on an SIV in Annecy I got a second frontal after the first because I didn't come off the bar and another time where I did come off, the wing would definitely have frontalled again without catching the shoot.
