I got this in early access but I only played it after full release and it is a huge blast, Thanks for covering it, Metroidvania Guru. Good to see it getting some love in the form of a review.
I started this on release day and really enjoyed the combat..I only played for like 2 hours and everything was super easy so I put it down. Glad to hear it gets more challenging later on. Really good review Guru. Priciate you man
Hey Guru, thanks for the great review! Was wondering if "Skelethrone: The Chronicles of Ericona" was on your radar. I'm on the fence about it and haven't seen any in-depth reviews come out yet.
I just cant enjoy other metroidvanias as much anymore after having played the two Ori games. The amount of movement and traversal abilites you get there just makes it feel so good to explore around and just be in the world. No other metroidvania has that
Fair enough. My hope is that my reviews help people decide which MV they want to play based off their preferences. So if this game's not for you, know you know 😊
Honestly this game not being super amazing, yet being satisfying and fun is probably the best compliment you can pay to a game. The most important thing about a game is whether or not it's fun.
The amount of talent and creative energy put into this specific genre of sexy games is astounding. Can’t play any of this with my kid. I think we need to apply the juggle physics to a dude hero in completely awkward ways that make us all laugh at the absurdity of it all.
Hello fellow, I noticed you seems in love of play Metroidvania so much, I`m indie game dev and now making a game with Metroidvania mechanism, do you like to have a code after the game release for game play testing ?? if yes, how can I direct contact with you ?
I just put this game on my wishlist not even knowing this is a Metroidvania. And it's there for so long. Gotta finally give this a shot after watching this review
Strangely enough Naughty Dog is the only company who managed to make Sewer Levels somewhat enjoyable, both Crash Bandicoot 2 and Jak & daxter come to mind.
That one has been sitting in my wish-list for a while, I was wondering if this was just a kusoge with fan service but if it's actually a pretty decent mid-tier with great combat and customisation AND you can play dress-up AND Ciara is playable and has the kick moves now I'm sold XD
This is why Metroidvania guru is my fav reviewer - he'll mention the things we all feel but not everyone says, like that awful sewer area and 2.5D jank. Not many people talk about that surprisingly. Metroid Dread and POP The lost crown probably had the least 2.5D jank but for the most part most 2D platformers have way better hit boxes and feel much more responsive. And I'm glad you mentioned the distinction of Igavanias. It's by far my favorite type of metroidvania. I think the genre has grown so much that those distinctions should be referenced and perhaps Hollow knight should become part of the portmanteau lol. Since some metroidvanias (like Bo path of the teal lotus) very much feel like a HK style metroidvania and not like metroid or castlevania. But that just me. Telling me a game is an Igavania or HKvania quickly lets me know what to expect and whether I'd be into it or not. I had a great time with Frontier hunter. The enemy/magic core system is the type of customization I like. It lets you experiment and create really powerful builds. I used Ciara to double jump into the air to avoid enemy attacks, then ground slam them from above. Combine it with the core that makes it so your skills cannot be interrupted, and enemies can't hit you out of it, which becomes lots of cheesy fun lol.
I appreciate the kind words! There's an idea for a project I keep jostling around in my head where I want to take every MV and seperate them into proper subgenres like you mentioned (Igavanias, HKvanias, etc). I keep toying with the idea, but I think it might actually be something people might appreciate. I'll have to see if anyone's done that yet or not so I don't waste my time 🤔 And 100%. I LOVE when games allow such cheesy builds!
@@MetroidvaniaGuru Ok, perfect! Now I'm looking forward to that video haha! I think your style of informative vids, like What makes an S tier MV, explains stuff in an entertaining way, and that there's method to the madness :D
that special move also exist in SOTN but its not special move but Alucard Spell, and quite broken too like summon spirit which homing to enemy and make legion boss fight easy and dark metamorphosis which heal Alucard every time he hit enemy, btw there permanent dark metamorphosis in game if you got Muramasa the most overpower weapon in SOTN.
@@MetroidvaniaGuru it was a fun game, not overly demanding and I was able to finish it in under 15 hours, it has multiple weapons, but there are some that are clearly better than others. So, some gameplay styles might be more difficult than others. I had forgotten the full name, it is "Yohane the Parhelion: Blaze in the Deepblue"
@@MetroidvaniaGuru thanks for the response! I liked Afterimage more, but I found blood stained frustrating because of the save system. So many times I lost progress.
What boxes are you referring to? I'd say the closest MVs have gotten to being "the best possible MV" they could possilby be would be all the MVs I have in my S Tier, it that answers your question.
@@MetroidvaniaGuru Indeed man! the S-tier is quite a great bunch. looking forward to your next one! might I suggest you look into The Last Case of Benedict Fox.
