I'm currently studying for the qualifying test, but love trains and operating heavy equipment. So seeing this is friggin awesome because I really like knowing what I'm looking forward to learning before the initial lessons.
Yeah, I understand what you're saying, but I'm not sure if you want the Engineer engaged in conversation when he/she has to monitor his speed and be governed by hundreds of signals and signal rules to maintain safe operation of that train.
Are there a lot of other railroads that have the engineers operating the passenger doors? Does the dual certification earn the engineers a little extra pay?
We have conductors but they stay in the body of the train. Engineers at UTA are dual certified as Conductors as well. They are there to help maintain the train and troubleshoot any maintenance issues. We also have hosts that are not GCOR certified that are mostly there for customer service and security
If anyone who reads this is thinking about suicide by train or jumping or anything please reach out for help. Strangers will love you. That said also please don't do that in front of a train or jumping because other good innocent people have to carry that trauma and it can affect their whole family too. Thank you and I love you.
We have in cab cameras on the railroad I work for. It kinda sucks, but at the same time it could be beneficial if it proves you innocent in an incident.
