I would say the only thing that could improve the battle reports clarity is if you painted the two warbands base rims different colours so its easy to see whos on which team
Interesting idea! Not to completely shoot you down, but a lot of these models are interchangeable between battle reports, warbands, and future games I plan on showcasing on the channel. Though, maybe some sort of "clip on" color base system could be doable, yet difficult with the plethora of different base sizes used in a game like Frostgrave. You've given me something to think about!
Your production quality and story-like approach makes these some of the best presented battle reports I’ve come across for ANY tabletop game. Keep it up 👍
I literally just put this playlist on in the background while painting and was pleasantly surprised to see another battle report! Thank you for the gift sir
I feel that the table and deployment are limiting the gameplay options. It would seem that its a case of run up to the edge of the drain, shoot/spell opponent, run away with loot and barely get into HTH. I would try different deployment, corner to corner or deploy so that the groups both start on the same side of the drain (at opposite ends) and they have to balance out engaging the enemy or moving sideways into or across the drain to collect treasure. Other than that I think the presentation of the gameplay is awesome, just need to mix the deployment up a little.
Ooooh, a very good suggestion. Really appreciate this. Something as simple as changing the starting zone can really change the interactions we see on the table. Thank you!
Great battle report! Terrain and minis all look ace as per usual. I really like how you display the fight bonus and health when you roll a combat roll. Something I saw in a Rangers of Shadow Deep batrep the other day that I really liked was at the end of every turn, he showed a birds eye shot of the entire board oriented the same way every time along with icons highlighting where each figure was and where the objectives were. It was really nice to get re-oriented after every turn to the boardstate as sometimes when zooming around the table and filming from the minis perspective, it can get easy to lose track of where minis are in relation to each other as well as their position on the board in relation to what objectives/treasures are left. Not sure how much additional work doing some of this adds, but it was definitely a nice touch that combined nicely with the more dynamic shots during the game
You’re the best battle report channel for frost grave. May I suggest like a few seconds outro after battle scenes? Like some funny conversation between Karen and Loyd in an inn or something? Or something relevant to the episode?
Any chance you’d be up for some StarGrave? I’d like to see your fun narrative stuff being made for that game world as well! As always, great video and no need for any change ups as far as production goes.
I would love to showcase Stargrave, but it would be a long while from now. I am severely lacking a number of Scifi minis and terrain in my collection. Of course, a lot of Frostgrave stuff could transfer over, but I would still need MORE!!! 😅
Great battle reports. Probably the best Frostgrave battle reports I've seen. The terrain looks fantastic. The terrain is great. The narration covers things well but is fast enough to maintain a good pace. The only thing I might suggest you add is something that clearly shows the dice roll numbers, as the camera angle is sometimes too low to see them.
The rotating board works really well, especially for what are essentially establishing shots like 6:11 / 13:39 or more dynamic angles such as 9:27 though I'd be mindful not to over use it and avoid any disorientation. Talking of which, it would be great to see the occasional top down angle, particularly during movement phase, to get a better understanding of the maps layout at the start and how each warband plans to approach it. Keep up the great work!
Always enjoy these videos! If there is one thing that I kind of miss sometimes is seeing the results of the die rolls. Or at least the total results. Makes it more suspenseful to me. But that's all the criticism I can muster!
Another awesome battle report! The only thing that was a bummer was some of the rolls were pretty far from the camera, but I'm one of those guys that wants to see the numbers rolled
I really love the batreps, also the presentation is just amazing, I don't like the moving cams in vids as they feel like shakey handheld cams, here everything is clear and nice to look at ^^ For gameplay a flat ground with many small hills etc could be fun once, I do like the gap in the middle but would be cool to see it on an edge ^^ A kind of ambush scenerio could also be fun were Karen starts in the middle or surrounding her pray In the end, I really like the batreps, so just keep doing what you wanna do ^^
My friend and I played Frostgrave last night, so this battle report was perfectly timed! I like the new, speedier format, where resisting spells and other less exciting rolls happen offscreen. Your terrain is, as always, inspirational. How is the board with the big chasm working out? Do you find that there's less melee combat? The different color backgrounds when showing off the two wizards was a nice touch, and your paint jobs are awesome.
Chris, thank you buddy! Appreciate the kind words. To answer your question, the board is great! Though, I am starting to realize changing up some starting positions may be a good idea to create a more interesting match. Table corners or in the chasm itself.
Love your battle reports! I would like to see you do some painting tutorials. Your minis are impressive. Also, Have you played Joe McCullough other game Rangers of Shadow Deep? similar mechanics but more of an RPG feel to it.
Thank you! 🧙♂️🧙♂️ To answer your questions: Mini painting tutorials are a bit foreign for me. I personally feel other creators got that in the bag, but that shouldn't stop me from giving it a try. For Rangers, I own the game and have read through the rules, but have yet to run a game. It's on the list of things to try, but for whatever reason, that list keeps getting larger and larger! 😅
I think I was your 12th patreon! Love the reports. Would love to see you try another (solo?) game, whatever strikes you and isn't too much work. Love the music and sound effects here. Love the video length (15-25min is perfect)
Alphawolf, hello! I do have some plans attempting another title in the “near” future. At the moment, I’m keeping things a little close to the chest, but I’ll keep you in the loop soon.
Hail to the FG king! Just think about the Rangers of Shadowdeep again. On the same game engine you can challenge yourself in different victory strategies, gathering new models and crafting unusual pieces of terrain such as legendary broken stairs, swampland, or farm homestead under siege.
Nice look and feel. I think the presentation was good. Succinct explanations of what happened and I like the angles you can show with the spinning table. Great work as always good sir! I look forward to the next!
Visuals are just on point as always dude! Would love to see some Frostgrave Warband Kitbashing or Painting on the channel if that's something you'd do? Would love to see you paint every mini in the warband match a scheme or something
Thanks as always Gyriongyrion! And this is a good idea. Can't promise anything anytime soon, but this sounds like something I wouldn't mind giving it a try at some point!
The sound effects are killing me again! For the video aspect of it, the only issue I see is that the minis on both sides have similar color schemes (wizards aside) so it's difficult to differentiate both sides once they get close to each other.
Thanks Keggers! And appreciate the insight. I am hoping as my painted mini collection grows, I can start creating more and more warbands that mesh well together.
Woot! Battle report! Just finished playing scenario 4 of perilous dark. It was the easiest one yet thanks to my enchanter making good use of embed enchantment so most of my crew has weapons of+1 fight.
Well done mate! I love the perspective you provide for each warband actions! You are doing great in style, narrative and visuals! I feel bad for Terry however :(
Man, great vid, thank you! I enjoyed the visuals too 👍 also you are reminding me why I wanted to play frostgrave too, i haven't messed with it in a long while but man you made it look fun!
First of all great battle report i really enjoyed seeing Durgarith again on the chanel and second od all about your request about visuals and game presentation, i must say i realy liked old system from first and second season where you woud show clearly dice rolls on dice tray and full warband members stats when they performed na action. Keep up the good work
Heck ya! Another awesome Frostgrave battle report! I have really been enjoying these since I recently discovered your channel, and I love the new effects on this latest one. Keep up the great work!
Would love to get an idea of how you set everything up for your videos from the cinematography side! I dont even play Frostgrave, but you have some of the most engaging camera angles and pans!
For a simple answer, I use a lazy Susan underneath the table to get the fun spins and pans. As well as, I do my best to bring the camera to the level of the combatants. This gives the illusion that we are on the table with the miniatures, commencing battle along side them!
Your battle reports are awesome! The effort and work you put into each one shows. One day i hope you do a few "rangers of shadowdeep" batraps too. With some of these guys making a cameo appearance once in a while.
Terrain is top-notch, miniatures well painted. Cinematography is inspired with the lazy Susan and the background is great contrast. Get a widget with your logo or something as well as a dice tray. These are some of the best actual play solo skirmish battle reports around.
Thanks a lot Shannon! The "dice tray" option is something I have been debating about showing or not showing in these reports. I feel a dice tray promotes a less narrative based battle. It turns the viewers focus towards mechanics and numbers rather than the story being presented. Again, something I am toying with. Maybe, I enjoy things a bit more thematic?...
Awesome. I wasnt expecting this to drop today! but it is a happy surprise that explains why your last video wasnt a build video... you were working on this you sly devil lmao
Such a great battle report, as always gosh darn it! The visuals are super fun - just enough to decorate what's going on whilst staying hopefully low effort for you?
Thanks, Robbie! And nothing is "low-effort." At least that depends on your viewpoint. Though, it is enjoyable getting all the little parts neat and tidy in the edit. 😁
@@DiceChatter superb! I was more thinking - they look great, I just hope you're not busting a gut to include them too, because your baseline is so great already. You keep smashing it my guy 😁
Dude, so happy to wake up and see this upload! I just got into Frostgrave and have binged watched all your videos on the playlists twice and just thought yesterday that I hope there would be a new one soon. Love your work.
