You’ve mastered the tropical winter interest look. Very instructive for me. My soil is heavy and stays damp, though. What a difference that makes.

Thank you. Not sure if you can somehow add raised beds to your garden. That may help with drainage and give you a wider range of plants. Cheers

Last 6 weeks has been below zero here day and night. Lovest at -12. So refreshing to see all that exotic plants planted outdoors. I need to keep all tropicals indoors in winter and subtropicals in pots frost free. You are living my dream, but I will not mowe, ever.🙂👍

Great vid. Lots of great info in there. Im in south devon and most of my tropicals are put away for the winter. My musas look like snowmen. We have all kids of plants that stay outside most of the year. We live in a micro climate area and grow dessert plants outside that most people would dream of. I wish we were brave enough to leave them out. Looking forward to the next vid.

Cheers Stephen. South Devon is a great location for this type of gardening. I’m hoping to visit the Torquay area next year.

Hi. Thanks for your videos. I really enjoy seeing what you have achieved in your garden. Do you have a list of evergreens that you grow by any chance? I recall you did a video a while back with many of them. There are some that I missed the names of and I wouldnt mind keeping an eye out. I think you have a great method by growing hardy evergreens with some more tender tropicals. Cheers, Neil.

Thank you. I will see if I can sort a list out or do an updated video on hardy evergreens.

Great to see a winter update on your garden, love the look of the wagnerainus palm with the frost, mine has really grown this year, thinking of moving it in spring, are they easy to move ? Thanks for these winter videos

I think your style of gardening with evergreens is spot on. Although my garden is in it's infancy, I have introduced more evergreens in the past year and and have several other smaller evergreens waiting to be planted next spring. I essentially have two borders, one in full sun and the other in part shade most of the time apart from in the height of summer. I have found many evergreen plants for the shade border, but evergreens that tolerate full sun a little harder to come by? I have the usual Trachys, Bamboo and a Loquat. But any other suggestions are welcome.

Hi David. For height in full sun you could have Magnolia Gradiflora little Gem if you have a smaller garden and maybe some pittosporum. Medium height maybe Chamaerops Humilis, Phormiums, Euphorbias, Brachyglottis Sunshine. Free draining soil. Yuccas, Cycads and Aloes. Probably quite a few others but my minds gone a little blank. What location are you? Cheers

Thank you so much for the tour. Love your garden and the overall design. Yes I agree about about using evergreen plants to keep colour and interest over winter. My climate in Canada is almost exactly like yours so the info you share is really helpful. How will you overwinter your cleopatras?

Hi. My Cannas that are planted all stay in the ground but I do have spares in my greenhouse. I think as long as your soils free draining and you mulch if you need to they are tougher than most people think. Cheers

Love your garden, beautifully designed. Do you open your garden to the public for charity? I’m sure if it’s something you are interesting in doing, I’m sure the NGS would be very interested in you joining.

Hi and Thank you. At present no I don’t open my garden to the NGS. It is something I may consider in the future but at present I still have projects that need to be finished on the house and in the garden.

I do love the hardy evergreen tropicals, value for money and all year round interest. I just bought a Fatsia spider web which I know are hardy but scared to plant it out during winter straight from the pot. I’m keeping it in my shed for now. I’m wondering if I should wait until spring to plant it out or if it would survive winter if I planted it next week (if ground thaws).
@tikitropicals65
@tikitropicals65 7 месяцев назад
Hi Gina. Yes Fatsia Spiders webs are hardy for me so depending on your location I would assume they are hardy for you. I would say plant it out in spring. You won’t gain anything thing by planting now. That way it will be established for next winter. Cheers
@Gina0151
@Gina0151 7 месяцев назад
Cheers. That’s what I was thinking. I’ll wait till spring to plant it and that’ll give it a full growing season to establish goods roots in my soil for next winter 2024. 👍

Beautiful garden! What is the growth rate of your tree ferns, and how long have you been growing your larger ones ? I would love to grow them in my zone 8b garden in Oregon.

Hi and thank you. If you look on my channel I have done a video called 10 years of tree ferns in U.K. It may help to see the growth rather than me trying to explain. Cheers.
