I just had a banquet beef pot pie a couple of days ago and it was horrible. No beef flavor to the gravy and no beef flavor to the cubes of beef. And the beef cubes , besides being tasteless, were hard and chewy. I really had trouble eating them. I never had that problem before. I'm bummed out because the beef pot pies were my favorite.

When I was a kid, these and TV dinners were a rare treat. Even though my mother always regarded food like this as junk food, we loved them and my favorite part was also a overcooked hunk of crust. Looking at the ingredient list with my adult eyes though, I can say that these are sodium bombs. The amount of filling in the pie is about a ladleful and at 800 mg of sodium, that’s an awful lot. So I would only eat these on occasion. I never noticed an excessive salty taste either, and would assume if they put it on the label, that it’s at least that. I only had different brands like Marie Callender once I was out on my own. I’m not sure if one is better than the other in reality or not. But I have been to a few restaurants that had a pot pie as a menu item and they were at least 3 times bigger. That crust is what gets me though. I love it

These pot pies are easy enough to make at home, I would also add minced onions and sliced mushrooms, along with frozen peas, sliced carrots, diced potatos. Great dish to make with leftover turkey meat, or a reduced rotisserie chicken, you sometimes can find later in the evening. The bones of course are saved, and simmered separately to make soup, adding vegetables, eggnoodles, and any diverse leftovers if available.

@aDg 2k18 the banquet pot pies we buy come in the same package they are showing, and that’s not aluminum foil, it’s that microwaveable packaging that helps keep the food crisp. It’s microwaveable. ….. New Banquet packages also include more explicit instructions for cooking in microwaves of varying wattages. Similar changes are in store for hundreds of other ConAgra frozen foods, including Healthy Choice and Kid Cuisine lines. The old Banquet package said on the front: "Ready in 4 minutes. Microwaveable." On the back, in smaller type, the instructions specified four minutes in "medium" or "high" wattage microwaves and six minutes in "low" wattage ones. The new package recommends cooking four to six minutes in a microwave with 1,100 watts or more, and not in lower-powered ones.

For the Chicken and Broccoli Pot Pie: because its going to be cooked and frozen by the manufacturer and then reheated for so long by the consumer they have to use broccoli stems - if they used florets those would have been pretty vaporized or turned in to gooey mush. If you were making these from scratch at home it would be fine to use florets because you're going to cook them once and then eat and they'd be able to better stand up to the process.

@@Margar02 The pies aren't baked before you get them either. I would guess they cook the filling, but they could add the broccoli at the end right before it goes in the pie and it would work. Where I lived recently, the Swanson pot pies cost about 1/4 a cent more than the Banquet pies, (Swanson sold at 4 for 3.97, ($.9925) and banquet was priced $.99 each) and are significantly better in my opinion. The Banquet pies have a peculiar aftertaste in the crust I find off putting, which the Swanson pies does not have. However, I’ve not found anything but turkey and chicken pies in Swanson, where the banquet has beef and sausage pies as well as the turkey and chicken pies. Also, banquet has peach and berry and apple pies available, which are pretty good, and don’t have the weird aftertaste in the crust. A little light on the filling, more syrup on the syrup/fruit ratio than a normal frozen fruit pie.

I had just put a banquet pot pie in my microwave... when I came into the living room this video popped up. LOL I agree with you they're cheap but they're good ... the crust is the best part of the whole pie LOL The one I ate today was the beef ... have a chicken with broccoli and Salisbury steak one in the freezer. I keep them around for when I'm kind of hungry. But I don't want to "cook" LOL the videos a couple years old but I still enjoyed it. Thank you so much....

I haven't had one of these in years, but when I did, I would heat them in the oven, then break them over a buttered bed of rice, yum! Thanks for this video Larry! I'll have to buy a couple of them on my next visit to the grocery store.

What can I say, I love all the varieties of Banquet'e pot pies. There's another variety you should try, the cheesy ham and potato pot pie. I think it's rather tasty. My wife loves the sausage gravy pot pie. The apple and cherry-berry pies are good, too. Especially with a scoop of vanilla ice cream. I hope you make a video for the ham and potato pot pie and the fruit pies. And I appreciate your videos and doing stuff for us, the people. Keep on truckin' and chooglin' on! 😎👍

I just went through your list of meals and it made me really nostalgic for the time when I came to the USA . I thought, how simple, I don’t have to get all these ingredients, just pop it in the oven. Isn’t America wonderful, and it tasted so yummy. And for dessert, green jello with whatever was in the fruit can. Now I have a drawer full of spices and herbs, exotic ingredients I don’t trust. Thanks for leading me down memory lane. It’s all good. 🇺🇸😷🎄❤️

Eleven yrs ago after having two attacks of diverticulitis, I had surgery. The day I got home, I was really weak and had to figure out what I could eat. The ONLY thing I wanted was one of these turkey pot pies, I had no taste for anything else. I had lost quite a bit of weight so one or two of these certainly didnt hurt.. I could only eat half of one, but that pot pie was the most delicious thing I could have and was so satisfying at the time. . I still buy a couple every once in a while, they are still the same as when I was a kid. Such a treat.

Thanks for raising awareness of the evil TVP. We recently discovered our favorite link sausage started using that garbage after wondering why the texture and flavor just wasn't what it used to be. Sad to see so many trusted brands (even local) using these cheap fillers. Just raise the price a few cents and ditch the TVP!

No TVP in these pies had to be very disappointing...I hope you went to dollar store, to find some kind of frozen abysmal TVP meal to compensate. Finally I know you don't like peas. For them to jip you out of a pea, is atrocity! Got to have a good pea once in a while.

Even Americans will be better off with his cheap meal recipes over the premade stuff. It's a curse, really... The homemade servings are typically larger and healthier. I'm pretty sure that's the whole point of his "cheap meal" series... to stop Americans from using poverty as an excuse to eat dangerously unhealthy. It's a huge problem here that's led to a national health crisis.

I was pleased to see your strategy for eating these is the same as mine- -savor the crust, then scrape everything inward and scrape it for every bite. Frankly, I wished they made family sized versions of these. The veggies can be hit or miss, true, but one consistent star of all the Banquet products - all the gravies are delicious.
