Yep! Menu planning and cooking from scratch is the key to keeping grocery costs low. I'm feeding 8 people (3 are young men ages 15, 19, 21!) for about $800 a month - 3 meals a day AND we live in a high cost of living area. We aren't eating lobster and crabs, but we also aren't eating "beans and rice and rice and beans." 😂

My free fun activity is growing my reselling business. I get to shop thrift stores, estate sales, auctions and yard sales plus I have complete control over my schedule and mostly work from home. My net income is double what I spend so it's actually better than free! We also lowered our monthly rent (including electric, water, sewer, and WiFi) in a gated community to $450 living on a beautiful scenic lake. So we definitely spend less…thx for all your ideas

My top would be: 1. DIY and mend as much as you can. You save a lot on *something* at least once a month. 2. Check out your library! Ours has equipment you can borrow and passes to local museums, all free. 3. Buy second hand first, even if it isn't something you think you can get second hand. You probably can. You can also get refurbished things like phones. 4. Buy quality where it counts. I'm looking at you, Walmart footwear. I save money by buying the better quality item the first time around. 5. For kids - don't buy *anything* until you need it. They don't like everything you think they will, their tastes change, and also they grow in spurts. Also, if you have gifting relatives, let them buy practical stuff like jackets and boots, school supplies, etc

Happy Birthday, Hope! You look more like a Young 45! I spend $250 bi-weekly on groceries/household items/and gasoline for me as an older single person. I don't currently have any subscriptions. I began getting out of debt on a low, single income by cutting off cable and internet and turning my thermostat down to 62 in northern midwest winter when home...and 58 when away at work or sleeping. Oh but that low of a temp bit me when I bought my lil condo. First January (2019) here- my pipes froze in my outdoor utility closet! No water at all. I keep it a bit warmer now I haven't yet increased that $250 biweekly since 2018 tho prices have increased astronomically.since.

For two people we spend between $200-300 a month on groceries. I typically eat the same thing for breakfast and lunch to make budgeting simple. We also utilize a discount grocery store. Whatever we have left in our monthly grocery budget we get to go out to eat on or a movie at beginning of the next month. Really helps you want to spend as little as possible to get that night out.

To save on AC, I keep my house warm in summer (I like the heat) and not as warm in winter (I live deep in Florida, so winter’s not too hard). I have no dryer (I use drying racks). I also use only the lights I need in the moment. When I moved into my house, I took bulbs out of lighting fixtures that hold more than one bulb. If a lighting fixture would look weird without all the bulbs, I leave the bulbs in place and install a small lamp to use in in those rooms. I also use blackout curtains on windows facing the sun, which keeps my house MUCH cooler in warm months. I don’t own a TV or other electronics except for a cell phone, so I don’t have a TV on all the time. I don’t even have wifi; I just use the unlimited data on my phone. I use my toaster oven rather than my big oven (I might use the big one just a few times per year).

If I know that I'm going out and may need some cash, I'll pull cash from designated envelopes(Giving, Personal, for example) instead of using a card. I know I only have so much I can spend. If it so happens that I don't spend the money I put it back in my envelopes. I have found lately that I don't have the desire to spend like I have in the past, so now I have no problem walking out of a store empty-handed. Most of my spending is what I call required spending. Discretionary spending is minimal. I do a lot less impulse shopping. Adopting a more conscientious approach to one's finances will change your mindset. I know this to be true. Changing spending habits will make a difference.

Wow, when we were a family of 5 (3 of that boys) I never spent that much in a month. We live in a high cost of living area. USDA $1500? I think our highest might have been $600 a month. This was breakfast things for them, lunches for all of us, and dinners. Sometimes they would eat at school and we never had reduced lunches, so even that extra would not have made it to $1500 in a month. People also say eating healthy options is more expensive, and I would argue that one also. Shopping the outer perimeter our food cost went down as we ate more sustainable meals. That is including meat that I could prep into meals. Prepacked is the worst and really more expensive.

Our budget is $475 a month for three adults and two very spoiled dogs, that includes all food and household products (bought at Walmart of course!). We have kayaks and go kayaking (it’s free). While the kayaks were an investment - we have certainly gotten our money’s worth and will continue to do so Years ago- we also invested in a swimming pool and it was most definitely worth every single penny! We enjoy it every day between late spring through mid- autumn (we can heat the water if we need to). Our adult children, grandchildren, nieces, nephews and great nieces and nephews, as well as my sister and her husband - all enjoy our pool whenever they want to- and they do use it! On a more frugal note- if one doesn’t have kayaks or a pool - we swim in the local lake and Bay, which are both totally free and safe for swimming. We hike in local and State parks. We take walks around the community. We have even found and picked wild blackberries which were absolutely delicious. We attend free events hosted by the public library and my son’s HOA (their community really hosts awesome family events several times a month). We do also attend live tribute band music performances where ticket prices are about $30 each- the tribute bands are so good and cost a fraction of national acts! We like supporting the arts.

I spend less than that for food, but I also home can a lot of meals. I did spend a bunch of money today, but the items were from a list of necessities for winter/stuff that has disappeared. I bought 2 - 1700 lumens flashlights, one for the car and one for the farm truck and rechargeable batteries. I also replaced folding knives for both vehicles. I get bales of hay for the goats I breed and raise, and have to cut the stubborn plastic bands they put on the bales. I got onions to dehydrate and the store had vegetable trays 1/2 off - those will be pickled with Oriental spices and refrigerated for future stir fries. Got 2 more cases of drinking water, and hay and the various feeds for all my critters. Filled the hatchback! I'd done all that after getting blood drawn for regular tests and deciding that another town would have more of what I needed. Full day!

Our free summer fun was going to the local county park that had a fantastic swim beach at their lake. They also had trails we walked. We were also fortunate enough to work for a company that paid for a yearly family pass to the Henry Dorley zoo in Omaha. We also bought a family pass to our towns swimming pool. We spent a lot of time in the water! We didn’t take our kids to water parks or amusement parks, and we didn’t take a summer vacation to a far off place. My kids have great memories and our family continues to do free stuff together as adults.

We spent much of Jun '22 to Jun '23 building a larder. We were able to do it mostly at good to great savings at the time of purchase. Now, we keep some larder stocking money and for the most part only use it when we come across a good to great deal. Last Thursday we hit the bread outlet store and got 21 bread packages for $20 even though the 2 keto items were $2/ ea, two $10 punches on our punch card, and pretty much filled the freezer for a couple of months; grocery store bread is $1.99 to $2.49 for store brand sandwich loaves. $20 of stock up bread was planned. Todsy we came across 1lb tubes of Jennie-O, 90% lean, grpund turkey for $1.98 om a Manager's Special; about the lowest 80% lean gets is $3.99/ lb. We bought 12 pounds with our remaining $25 of stock up money. $1.98 is within our $2/lb or less target for meat and we haven't bought much for ground meat of any type since March-ish of '22 when the prices started to climb. - Oh, we begin meal planning from our larder.

Digital purchases are so common place now. I'm older so I don't see the advantages of that. Physical media does get to be obsolete on a regular basis, so you have to keep your old VHS / DVD etc around. So that's a downside for some people I guess. Not for me personally though.

I buy all my games in physical form unless it’s only available digitally. Not just for preservation, but also because I like to collect them and have them on display 🙂

Happy Birthday, Hope! I Love the concept of no spend Challenges. I am currently not spending on extras until Christmas shopping and that will be minimal this year. Only buying groceries and gas. And I definitely spend way less than $1500 even with replenishing stockpile items for winter. Utilize Costco and Aldi for saving. Thank you for the recommendations. ❤

I've cut my electric bill drastically. I'm in Georgia and have the windows up with the ceiling fan on. I'll close the windows before it gets hot outside. I want to spend my money on things I want rather than pay a bill. For a long time, I was using my grocery stash. It insulated me from a lot of the inflation. Now most of my stock is gone and I'm buying sales for me and a few things for my grown children.

I have seen several of your videos on how to prepare and manage unexpected expenses but I feel like I could better prepare for putting money aside for them if I could have a decent list of things that "pop-up" that we may forget about and then throughout the year I can adjust my list to my personal household and life. That being said, I would love to see a video of the most common "pop-up" expenses that we may forget about throughout the year from car maintenance to property taxes, license renewals etc. so I can see if there is anything I have overlooked and I welcome comments from others to give me ideas as to what I need to remember. Regardless, keep making great videos as usual. Thank you!!

I am working through our items that we no longer need and selling them on EBay. Intially it started slow, then I began using there promoted sales. I give more to them from my earnings, yes, but I have sold so much more because they are putting my products in front of more buyers. We have made thousands. We are actually just below 10. So excited to have the extra money 💰, it's extending our vacation time. 😊

Helllooo folks from Vermont's beautiful Northeast Kingdom! I'm a 1st time viewer and subscribed. We may be sisters from another mother, because I do most of the things from the 25 ways list. I do have a swiffer "stick", but I use cut up old towels with it. And use my own cleaning stuff. Glad I found you and I'll be binge-watching this weekend!

The avg. American is having a tough time, I know I am not alone. There are others in same position as me. By certain statistics: 22% of americans have no retirement savings. 64% are worried that they will not have money in latter years while 47% of adults who are not yet retired think they have to work part-time in retirement. How can I best grow the 100k I have saved seperately outside retirement access which of course had depleted over the years?
@joshbarney114
@joshbarney114 День назад
It's recommended to save at least 20% of your income in a 401k. You can use online calculators to estimate how much you should save based on your age and income. Saving at least 20% of your income in a 401(k) can help ensure that you have enough money to retire comfortably. By saving this much, you can take advantage of compound interest and potentially grow your retirement savings over time.

This is precisely why I like having a portfolio coach guide my day-to-day market decisions: with their extensive knowledge of going long and short at the same time, using risk for its asymmetrical upside and laying it off as a hedge against the inevitable downward turns, their skillset makes it nearly impossible for them to underperform. I've been utilizing a portfolio coach for more than two years, and I've made over $800,000.

Certainly, there are a handful of experts in the field. I've experimented with a few over the past years, but I've stuck with ‘’Marisa Michelle Litwinsky’’ for about two years now, and her performance has been consistently impressive. She’s quite known in her field, look-her up.

My family has food allergies and intolerances to various foods. Eating out, at least for me, just isn’t worth it anymore. I cook at home and have started taking a meal and snack with me when I go out of town for the day. Saves money and I get to eat enough of the foods I can have so I don’t feel hungry an hour later. We spend less than $1500 on groceries and sometimes much less if we have a full pantry.
