I'm a senior living on a limited income and I like the word 'frugal' because it reminds me of how my ancestors lived, spending 'wisely' and it fits with my awareness of my environmental responsibilities. Now to start 'right-sizing' my life by letting go of the excess I've accumulated over the years and keeping only what fits the way I'm being shown to live by minimalists, Katy Bowman, and so many more.

We are looking forward to the next phase, once we have been able to sell our apartment and let go of more stuff attached to that! Hi Deatra, we love you simple living philosophy and also strive to look at life in that light. We too, have few clothes that we have worn for a very long time. We eat plant-based which keeps our costs down and also compost and recycle as much as we can here. And lately, we have also been blessed with the challenge of less money. If you look at everything like a game these challenges can actually take on an aspect of fun. We live in Cape Town, how about you?

Ooooh exciting...welcome to our neck of the RU-vid woods! Frugality is definitely a balancing act. Our best advice is: you do you! We're frugal in a lot of areas, but if it came down to it, we'd quit food before we quit coffee. Ha ha ha. 😀
I think the word 'frugal' gets a bad rap in the developed western world and 'smart spending' or 'intentional spending' is easier for some people to get their head around their spending habits and embrace a more intentional way of spending their money aka 'being frugal'. For me, I love smart spending as it frees up money to spend on the things that really bring me joy and value. I stopped buying coffee out after I started to make great coffee the way I like it at home with a £10 coffee pot bought from Lidl. I rarely want coffee out now as it's never how I like it. Once we developed a frugal, minimilistic mindset in 2010 we were blown away by how much more free time and money we had and I've never looked back. Some people think we're weird.....no TV, only use hand towels, few clothes etc........but we don't care because we feel we're living it large and are so much more content for it!
