How come you turn the bottle upside down when bottling?

Nice one bud good way of getting the juices out for the rhubarb, think I’ll invest in a juicer to do the same. Normally bring juice and rhubarb to boil and chuck all in FV, but i have to rack it off rhubarb when I’m ready to keg.

yeah I'd certainly at least puree it and bring it up to 65C or a little higher to pasteurize it. I will b e doing this with some rhubarb this fall.

Hey Griffo! Just a quick one! Have you ever re-used the plastic 500ml bottles and how do you find them once they been used to use again. I've recently used mine for the second time, with the same lids but whats your thoughts on it? Cheers!

Thanks for the video! Looking for re-fermentation techniques. I'm no pro, but if you like fruited saisons, you might try switching to a big glass carboy and aging it a bit longer. "Time does not respect what is done without him"~Brasserie Cantillon. Also, it's much easier and you get a more even carbonation of your bottles by adding the sugars to the bottling bucket in bulk instead of each bottle.

Hey, I am planning on creating a fruity beer recipe and I am curious about when to add my fruit. I plan on adding it during secondary fermentation, but I am not sure whether to boil the wort (as you do in your Rhubarb beer video) because I am afraid that killing the yeast won't allow me to carbonate my beer
@kristof1230
@kristof1230 4 года назад
Hey. I hope this is still relevant. I wouldn't boil the beer/wort, as it already has alcohol, so any nasty stuff getting in there would be killed

I agree with A Shamal, you don't need to boil the wort (or, even the rhubarb for that matter). Just make sure you freeze the fruit first; this will result in a pulpy mess but will extract most of the juice from the fruit as Homebrew Griffo showed in this video. You can then add everything (fruit and juice) to your secondary following primary fermentation. I've used this technique will several fruits with no infection issues whatsoever. If you are still unsure about this, you can soak the fruit in vodka for awhile and then add the fruit together with the vodka as it will have extracted many of the flavor compounds. Good luck in your fruity beers!

How are you getting 27 litres out of a grainfather? I am ending up probably 18 eventually into the keg.

Hi David, just use the GF calculator to set your batch size and it gives you the required amount of mash and sparge water. I aim for 25L batches lately 👍

Considering the amount of fiber in rhubarb, wouldn't be better to blitz it rather than juice it?... Just an idea.. I know its a odd point, a bit like blitz pomegranate to actually juice it.

I think I’ll try that next time, well now the juicer has blown up I might as well 😂

The only thing I saw that was against sterilization practices is when you used the paper to introduce the sugar, you touched the unsterilized paper to the bottle.

God knows how anyone in the middle ages or even 1000s of years before made alcohol without dying, they must have been sterilizing everything and wearing clean latex gloves when handling anything right?
@Monkeemagik

And the sugar was not sterile either 🤔

7:20 I thought you said you were going to use cane sugar? I’m afraid that sugar is made from beet, I think Tate & Lyle are the only brand that still uses sugar cane. Sugar beet is GMO too 👎🏻

Hi Jon, I didn't mean to mislead you. I'm not a sugar expert like yourself, I have checked the packaging and it doesn't give anything away in terms of Cane or Beet but I'll take your word for it. Cheers
