The power station is primarily designed to not impart any real character as it’s essentially a “re amplifier”. You’re going to feed the power station with a power amp already imparting the tone. Would be interesting if the RM100 sounded the same running into the power station first???

You are right mate, I should have made that point a lot better (although I did in the other video - my brain probably thought it was already done, doh). I do agree that it would have been much better to run the amp through the PS2 to hear it first. Thanks for the feedback mate much appreciated.

Great comparison. I liked the Randall power section better with the high gain tones but the Fryette was better on the cleans. Also I feel like Randall is quite a bit darker sounding.

Hi, excellent vid, very interesting and particularly relevant as I'm heading in the direction of assembling a Synergy rack mounted 'modular head' with two modules, one being the Pitbull, the second has yet to be determined, driven by the Power Station PS-2A. Re your video, I thought the PS-2A sounded 'cleaner' which is what I want in that I want to create my own sound, that being my criterior I need a 'blank canvas'. The amp therefore must be as transparant as possible. You have confirmed that the Power Station is the way to go for me. Many thanks. Pete. PS I really enjoy your content and presentation, more please.

Hi mate, great content. Just curious how much the depth in the power station adds to the low end of the tone? I'm hopefully moving on my RM100 to replace with a PS-1 but would like the low end oomph still.. cheers!

Part 1: Fryette Power Station - is it any good as power amp? Discusses what the Fryette Power Station is. ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-AJ7IQWOiKdU.html

They both sound great but to my ears the fryette actually sounded a little more alive, just a little more to it that I liked.

I’ve been waiting to see a video like this. I have the PS-2a and have been using it as an attenuator. But have been watching the modules being developed and thinking what a handy way to have what ever sound profile you want at all times. My question is what do you need to run the modules into the PowerStation? Since the PowerStation is its own amp, it doesn’t need the Synergy or Randall amplification. What is the most cost effective way to utilize modules with a PowerStation?

Hi Don, thanks for checking out the video and commenting. The most cost effective way to start using the Synergy system with the Power Station is to buy a Synergy Syn 1. This is a unit for a single module that can be plugged into the PA-2A. I hope that helps. Chris
@donmcdonald4874
@donmcdonald4874 Месяц назад
It isn’t really that cost effective because the Syn1 is $500, the module is $500 and the PowerStation is $1,000, so it’s $2,000 before you even have one set up with no speakers.

If I can bother you with more questions. What’s the purpose of the SYN 1? Why aren’t the modules standalone preamp sections than can be plugged into the power amp or board on their own?

To Chasing Tone: Sir I hope you can shed some light on this: I am interested in using the PS-100's tube power amp with a AxeFX II and through a Marshall 4X12 greenback loaded cab. Now the AxeFX has several adjustments/options one can make if you are using a Solid state power amp or a tube power amp. Now the difficulty is (as you remarked in your video) is that the fryette's tube power amp is more "clean" or "neutral" so as to not add much "color/personality)....BUT it still is a "Tube amp and I would guess that you would not make the AxeFX "settings adjustment that you would pick for "when using a solid state power amp" For instance for solid state power amp you might want to leave the AxeFX "power amp emulation on (because the solid state power amp is too "sterile" but is the Fryette ENOUGH of a "Tube power amp that you/I should leave the power amp emulation "Off". There are also other settings that are easier to guess (since I'm using a "Real" cab I should turn the "cab sim block off. So I guess I'm asking you: When using the fryette "tube power amp" even though it is actually a "Tube amp"...but still it is so "flat/neutral" as a power amp one should still leave "power amp simulation "ON".....YOUR THOUGHTS????

Great video! I am waiting for Kingsley Maiden D preamp and was wondering what is correct "power station"..."power amp" to use with it. My chain is: Guitar> 3 overdrive Pedals >Maiden D Preamp> "Power Amp" > Impulse Response> DAW. All time and modulation effects inside DAW. I do have Load Box that I use with my tube head. I am trying to assemble another version of the "same".Any help,suggestions, or questions ,much appreciated.

Hi Bero, thanks for checking out the video and for your kind words. I was wondered if you have tried the 'power amp' emulations on something like the Torpedo Wall of Sound plugin? In my experience it is not the same as having a nice power amp but they do work well. Other than that it is a difficult one with the power amp as it depends what flavour of sound you are trying to achieve. The reason I like the Fryette Power Station is that it is a bit like a Swiss army knife. You can crank your tube head through it and get all the goodness from the amp but you can also use it as a power amp should you need to as well. It is very versatile but it is not a dedicated power amp and it will keep you signal very clean as it tries not to impart any footprint onto your sound. Some might like that some may not. Also, I just thought about trying the Kingsley Maiden D preamp through the effects return of your tube head and use that as the power amp. Have you thought about that? I have done this before with some amazing results. I put a Randall RM4 through a Bogner Shiva's power section and it was one of the best tones I ever got.

@@chasingtone2022 Let's look at it this way. I am trying to build new amp for me with separate components. So far I will have Maiden D as preamp. Fryette Power Station is my No.1 choice so far for the Power Amp . I am just little confused because it's meant to take Amp in and not sure how it works with just Preamp Amp. I would add that whole idea is to be used 90% for recording, all tube chain, but it has to be able to do live club rig thru the guitar cabinet. Am I missing something. Is there even better solution? New Kingsley Crucible Power Amp is also tempting idea. I just can't figure out why is only 1w power amp.Fryette has 2 options on they website: 1) Power Stations and 2) Power Amps and that's what's confusing.
