Well, this was quite an interesting day. Things didn't go exactly as planned today but I think it still turned out alright. Anyways, today was the annual statewide drill for Minnesota. My original plan was to film this thunderbolt 1003 in Hayfield for the 1:45 PM drill and then go to Waltham to film their thunderbolt 1000T for the 6:45 PM drill. My plan immediately got foiled due to the fact that my shot was very fucked & underexposed. My other camera which usually prevents these situations from happening died on me due to the fact that I forgot to charge it the night before traveling here. Due to the 1:45 PM not going as planned, I was left with a decision to either film this thunderbolt again or go to Waltham to film their thunderbolt 1000T. I didn't know what option to pick so I let my uncle decide. He ended up choosing for me to film this thunderbolt again so we stayed in town. To this day, I am VERY glad that he made that decision for two reasons. The first reason was because I ended up getting a much better video of this thunderbolt. The other reason was because I ended up unexpectedly meeting up with Dalton! Since this was the first time I met Dalton, I went up and introduced myself. After our introductions, we went our ways and started setting up our cameras & tripods and started to play the waiting game. Once 6:45 PM hit, this thunderbolt immediately roared to life for 3 minutes of alert! There was also a sterling model m (M-3) on the side of the building that was sounding in unison, along with the thunderbolt! I couldn't even hear it in person. It was until I rewatched this video that I finally heard it. If I'd known that there were 2 sirens in this location, I would've filmed the Sterling as well but oh wells. This thunderbolt has a pretty bad air leak which is why it sounds rather high-pitched. Besides the air leak, this thunderbolt was plenty loud! I even had to cover my ears at one point. I can't imagine how loud this thing would've been if it didn't have an air leak! Anyways, once the thunderbolt and sterling shut off, you can hear an eclipse 8 winding down in the distance. That's also another siren that I didn't know Hayfield had. I originally came here thinking that this thunderbolt was the only siren that they had but boy was I wrong! In the end, besides the 1:45 PM drill incident, I thought that today was a pretty good day. If I ever come back here, I'll film the thunderbolt and sterling at the same time! That's all I gotta say for now. Check out the info below!
