Tough decision really, they’re both great. And each will appeal to different people for different reasons that I’ll dive into.
Let me know which way you’d go. Handling them both side by side isn’t a luxury most will get, so I’m hoping to demonstrate the best of each to help you in your decision.

Edit to the opening text: it’s the FSD Mini “I” not “L”

Totally agree with U both those knives are great first edition seems to have better feel but I can definitely see how others might choose the second

I’ve wanted an FSD-I for a while. There’s just something about a frictionless, drop shut liner or frame lock action. My mcnees on skiffs is scary frictionless as well and it’s just so satisfying to fidget with. The look of milling pattern 1 has always been a favorite of mine. It’s so clean. A friend has one for sale for $800 that I might jump on.

Thanks for this very useful comparison! While I like the deployment options and the fidgety nature of the Brown Lock version more, particularly with a high-end knife, there is just something intoxicating about an extremely smooth fall-shut frame/liner lock knife. As a righty, I just can’t get over the likelihood of accidentally releasing the Brown Lock during use. The main thing that I don’t like about the FSD-I is the looks of the front flipper nub. All-in-all, I much prefer the inset/liner lock version.

Ha, classic Derrick. And yeah agreed, both are fantastic, I’m a “both” vote.

Pattern #5 with the Brown Lock is the winning combo.

Funny because I’m pattern 1 with the liner lock lol. Doing both was a stroke of genius

If the brown lock is a button on the backside can we call it the brown hole?
