Doubtful that it actually read the sign, more likely it just perceived it as an obstacle that it ultimately decided it could clear i.e. without understanding that it indicated construction further down the road.
Great catch. I think things like this are what truly shows us this systems brain power and it’s ability to think and comprehend. If FSD doesn’t know what an excavator is or has trouble distinguishing a minivan from a sedan at that short of a distance, then it probably didn’t read and comprehend the English language on that sign before it reached the excavator which explains why it reverted back to the path of the closed road.
@@G-RatedDude, you're literally overthinking this. That visual display is no different than the 3D models in a video game. It simply doesn't have an excavator model available in it's display, the computer sees things as they are, that display is being created AFTER the images the computer sees are processed, the display is for YOU, not for the car's processing.
@@Falcata_Kokoro The 'cars processing' is the source of information for the drivers display though - so if the drivers display is changing, then it's because the source is changing too. It's not just a lack of models, it's also a lack of certainty.

The road ain't your lab, dude. Disengage and turn the car yourself. The road is closed for a reason and that reason definitely isn't so you can test your car.😂 In your defense though, there should be a lot more cones to block that road and a flagger/officer there to make sure only locals come through.
A flagger isn’t necessary in this type of situation, road closed “except for local traffic” means the road is still traversable, but there’s too much construction going on for it to bear the brunt of all the vehicles that usually take the road. Usually just means driving on a bumpy dirt path for a while till you get to your house/business, or having to squeeze by the construction crew in this case. He probably should’ve disengaged anyways cause it’s the law, but It’s not like he was putting himself or anyone else in danger.

What are you people even complaining about? It says "closed EXCEPT FOR LOCAL TRAFFIC" meaning they are expecting cars, just not as many. Oh no, he cheated a bit cause he doesn't live in that street to demo a self driving car. So terrible. Such a bad person. Both him and the workers are going to have nightmares after this.
That's not how that works at all. That road is closed, period. The "except for local traffic" part is really just to let people who live inside the construction zone know that they can still make it into their driveways. If a cop saw that you'd get a pretty big ticket.
Writing a comment complaining about it is literally inconveniencing you more than he inconvenienced those workers, literally nothing happened and people are acting like he hit those guys and drove off

Honestly it doesn’t really need to. I would guess there’s a separate system creating that UI after the actual self-driving interprets the data and they just put in limited options.
For those who don't understand "Local traffic" in this context refers to people who live in the immediate area where the construction is taking place. Addition: Im already aware some of you probably feel inclined to leave a comment implying "Duh" or "No shit sherlock" But there are genuinely people out there who NEED a little context explanation such as people who are learning impaired SUCH as myself in some circumstances. So if my comment bothers you and you DO leave such a rude remark as stated above. No fucks will be given on my end, and thank you for shouting the reason why you should NEVER have any business in a management role overseeing people.

Man, I would've stopped to thank those guys for not flipping their lid and explained what was going on. From experience, construction workers hate it when people try to push around them especially when they have detour signs posted to prevent traffic from being around them. I do understand that these systems have to be tested and sometimes that puts it into uncomfortable and inconsiderate situations but that data is necessary to prevent it from happening again.
@@shawnclements14 Exactly, and the construction workers can tell when someone just went around the sign and through. Plus the barely squeezing by their equipment is something that will get under their skin fast even if he was "local" to that construction zone
@@shawnclements14 I never said they were annoyed originally... I said I would've stopped and thanked them for not flipping out and explained why the car did what it did.... I did say normally construction will get annoyed by that which is why I would've been appreciative that they weren't... Also there is a difference between expecting traffic, and seeing someone push their way past your equipment within inches without waiting for you to move said equipment enough for them to safely pass without potential of them hitting anything...
Lol, the road was OPEN TO LOCAL TRAFFIC. He just wasn’t local. It ended without no problems and the vehicle did amazingly well considering it was the computer driving. What are you complaining about? Are you one of those complaining kind of people?
For those with little brain cells, local cars CAN go through as people live there. You can also see cars parked in the street. Its not endangering anyone. Also this is how machines learn. Evolve or die.
For those with even fewer brain cells, the Tesla was not a local car, and thus should not have been there. "For science" is not a reason to test on people who haven't consented to it.
As the car begin to turn left the sign was still visible and its perspective of where the sign was pointing changes to the open 'Closed road' , like as it was pointing to the open road. We can also see there was ample space.
It just tried to go left because it saw the signboard as an obstruction. It failed to read what's actually on the sign. When it turned left slightly, it noticed that there is enough space to squeeze in from the left side of the signboard, so it went to the old path again.
i think its funny that when you talk about the space awareness of this car, it sounds like you are talking about a person. the car must have a much better space awareness then most normal drivers would since its using sensors and not eyes.
And what is scene in this short isn't a traffic violation in the US??? Here, whatever if the car have assisted fonction or if it is testing a new tech, a driver have to be in the car (if not, the man who let the car go will face criminal charges in front of a court for endangering others people life) and he(as the driver if there is one) is fully responsible for all actions from the car, example: if your car is able to park itself, but than it fail and it hit another car, you are responsible.
