This is such an incredibly helpful video. I had this same issue during a vatsim flight yesterday so now I know what to do. Thanks! 😊

Thank you! I always did a go-around when i couldn't intercept the glideslope

I've completed much steeper intercepts in the past. If you're visual with the runway and want to get down you can do s-curves as well. It's also a difference about what you can or should do. The procedures in this video are pretty safe, I'd not say that about my methods used to get down :D (if you pull g-s your induced drag rises, that is one method of slowing down - some passengers may actually like that, majority probably not :D )

In real life flying steep S-Turns or even pull g's you would get an earfull from your passengers. Probably somebody writing a complaint to the company or an automatic safety report being triggerd, followed by "coffee no buscuits" with your boss. If you don't care about using real life procedures in the Sim, go ahead. Then do whatever you like.

Hi blackbox, I enjoy your videos very much because I learn a lot from them. I hold a PPL and am currently working on my Commercial. Your professional approach to flying is unmatched, I endeavor to achieve the same grace. Thank you for the consistent brilliant content. How many aircraft types are you rated on?
@Blackbox711

Hi. Thank you very much. Currently I am rated on all the A319/320/321 variants.

hi! i have been watching to your videos with great interest! It is so easy to put icao/icao as your dept & destination airport in the INIT page and hit 'ALIGN IRS' button to make a regular flight. Now, let's add some spice and do something unusual! I will give you an example: how do you operate an airbus A320 aircraft in case your departure and/or destination airport is not present in the airac database? The most prominent example for this is the Simferopol Intl. Airport located in Crimea. Due to the current geopolitical situation, that airport is no longer being referenced neither is being listed by ICAO/airac since 2014-15 and it's icao code is currently being under dispute by the belligerents of that conflict (ukraine/russia). (Prior to this, Simferopol used to be referenced as UKFF under ukraine control, and now it is being claimed as URFF under russian control) Despite of that, currently, russian domestic airliners are still operating and deserving that destination using B737 & A320's daily; somehow overriding the absence of airac/navdata covering the entire region. Now, let's put aside the geopolitical situation of that airport and that region as it was just an exemple, can you please demonstrate how do you setup the FMGC and depart from an airport/rwy that does not exist in the AIRAC database (but is still there in real life), what is the procedure to align irs manually using the GPS and how do you create accurately the 'new runway' in 'DATA' page etc in order to have your aircraft properly aligned on the departing runway that you have created as 'pilot's runway'. I think that will be definitely something new and interesting to learn, thank you very much in advance!

Thank you for your great videos and really helpful instructions! Question: Where did you get the Austrian livery for your FSLabs A320? Greetings from LOWI!

Hi thanks for your professional videos. In your remarks you state that this is FSX and I'm impressed that landscape scenery in your videos look so realistic. Are you using ORBX (Base, Vector, OpenLC) products?
@Blackbox711

+Alexander Mayrhofer .. Hi. This is Prepar3D V4. And yes I am using ORBX global, vector, europe. Regards

So if I understand well when you activate the approach mode the autopilot does not take the altitude change into consideration as it is now looking to capture the glide slope. Thank you for sharing

Love seeing the intricacies of procedures like this. Is the max FPM at the various levels in aviation law or limits specifically for the A320? Can’t say I’d want to be doing 2000fpm decent in an A380 that low down with all the inertia that has.
@Blackbox711
@Blackbox711 6 лет назад
+David Gilbert .. No, these limitations are Operator bound. They will publish the SOP‘s for their pilots.
@Blackbox711

It seems to me that the 777 is easier to land than the A320, which wasn't what I expected. I thought the A320 would be more automated when it comes to landing. I also seem to run into this problem quite often where I'm always above the GS capture point. Not sure what I'm doing wrong. Is this normal behavior for the FSLabs A320? How can I make the GS capture more automated so that I wouldn't have to mess with anything during the approach/descent phase?
@Blackbox711
@Blackbox711 6 лет назад
+nomomrnyeguy .. well if you are above the Glideslope there is usually a good reason for it. Either you or ATC miscalculated the descent. The only you can automatically intercept the Glideslope in a more relaxed manner is to make sure your descent planning is not too tight. So leave some room for a level flight portion, in case you get vectorer closer than expected. Happy Landings

But I was following the tutorial that came with this plane... from LOWW to Copenhagen... I initated the descent when the FMA announced "DECELERATE". I wasn't using ATC, just following the tutorial, but not sure why I missed capturing the GS.
@Blackbox711

+nomomrnyeguy ... make sure you do not get above the optimum descent path or shorten the flightplan.

Quick question. Are you a trained pilot for the Airbus A320 or are you an enthusiast?

Hello Thank you for the great video and subject! I've seen the pilots used Flight Path Angle(FPA) for such cases. An example is ITVV's Martinair MD-11 during the Landing at Schiphol. Could you please explain a bit more about this?

i think you forgot to put AP2 on, when you do ILS and approach button pressed, you need both APs if im right?
@Blackbox711
@Blackbox711 6 лет назад
From a technical standpoint one AP is enough. However some SOP’s require both AP to be engaged
