This a short video to explain the Cost Index and how to use it in flight simulation.
Tips and Instructions are only to be used for the Flight Simulator on your PC! It should go without saying that I am only flying a PC Simulator, not a real aircraft. My videos therefore are not intended as professional instruction! And my videos do not show SOP ( Standard Operating Procedure) of any distinct airline.

Hi Blackbox, I appreciate a lot this video and I thank you very much because I asked you information about this topic recently. Me too I saw the video of Captain Joe today and he give very good explanation about CI but not the how to adjust the speed of the aircraft for some reasons as you explain very well. Thanks too for the CI value in Simbrief.com. Maybe Capt Joe follow you too not only to take your and our ideas but surely to have fun to learn like us your followers. He make a good job too ;)

Great video as usual and very well explained! Is there a limit by how much you would usually increase the CI (for connections) when requested by the company? Will they give you a specific CI which is higher than the present one or are you free to choose accordingly? I believe that fuel capacity and distance to go also plays a role in choosing an appropriate (higher) CI. Grüsse aus der Schweiz!

Hi Blackbox, I was really wondering what that cost index value was and you both answered it very well thank you ! Is there is any way for PFPX to calculate an optimum CI ? or do I have to find it on my own ? Keep on your great work !

Hi friend, I've been watching your videos for awhile and all of them especially airbus ones are amazing. First thanks for your great effort for FlightSim community. Would you consider sharing your whole sim settings which you are using FsLabs Airbus? As you know FsLabs has very big VAS issue and I try to find out a optimised graphic and scenery settings to fly with this awesome addon. Thanks again for your effort...

The green dot gives you a max endurance and max glide distance in idle thrust but the speed for max range is always higher for a turbofan engine. For a prop aircraft green dot would result in max range. The reason is that your thrust is more or less constant over throughout the speed envelope but the resulting power is the product thrust times speed. Ergo if you fly faster you generate more power with turbofan engines. At green dot you need very little thrust, ergo the fuel burn is the lower but you are not getting much distance covered when you fly that slow. Its better to fly a little bit faster and therefor get to the destination quite a bit faster with just a little bit more fuel flow on the way but overall less fuel consumption due to significant reduced flight time.

Please could your share your Nvidia inspector and P3d settings? I have the same setup but a GTX1070, but struggle to get more than 20fps in the FSL A320.

Hi Fraser. I am still fine tuning the settings in NVidia Inspector at the moment. You would be very surprised to see that I have changed very little there apart from turning "Shadercache Off". Also I recently used additional shader tweaking with PTA (Prepar3D Tweak Assistant) and ENVTEX.

If I put M.81 manually in the MCP the FPL page doesn't calculate with that speed, is that correct?

Not in the FSLabs A320, you are correct

No, complete coincidence. I was working on my video when I saw the video from Captain Joe. I then changed my video and left out some parts that were covered by Captain Joe. That way I concentrated more on using the Cost Index for Flight Simming. Regards

I'm not supporting "xp vs p3d" climate but I must ask if you heard about Flightfactors A320. A real training A320 sim which you can follow at x-plane.org forum.It looks like this time we will get a "real" training airline for XP. Ramzzess post.
