Both released in 2003, Papa's Got A Brand New Guinea also starts the same way with the original sample from Dead can Dance, and was spun out way more than this. It is a bit more rare to find these days as well. It was done by Nu Tone and uncredited since it wasn't cleared.
Papau New Guinea was just one of those tracks that absolutely defined my introdution to the club scene. Everytime I hear this it just takes me back. Such an epic tune.
I first found this tune in about 2003 as a ringtone then tracked it down and it turned out to be a version of this remix. Amazing tune this one, from the best era of drum n bass in my opinion!
well neat deffo a favorite must be well rare never heard this before and ive got all the albums for fsol and high contrast, beautiful mixing bewteen the ultimate in old school english rave and new drum and bass scene wonderful track!!!!!!!
High Contrast = Genius, just getting a bit worried bout all these old "classic" tunes being rehashed with a fat break!! I like D&B because its new and fresh, great remix but its never gonna have the impact on the dancefloor that it had in 92! My word I still have 3 copies of this tune on 12" vinyl and they still get played!!!
I have to say that those first few songs you listen to when on the up are the songs that you will remember for the rest of your life. This was one of them, along with Underworld - Born Slippy (the drum section tipped me over that high edge) and Energy 52. I'm STILL listening to those songs today. *Sighs* I miss those days.
I absolutely loved the original but high contrast have done a top job turnin this into a drum and bassy track, I thought Chase and status were good High Contrast are on a higher level!!!!!
The brasses are from the original tune which FSOL used in PNG... The vocals are Lisa Gerrard in her Dead can Dance times... So it makes absolutely sense to use these brasses in the remix... I recommend you inform yourself a little more instead of trolling around.
The first time I ever took ecstacy this song was playing in the car while we were driving out to the city. My friends asked how are you feeling? (They had taken it before). I could only reply PRETTY FUCKING GOOD MAN.
@mouldysockmuncher Sir, you ahve pretty much said EXACTLY what I was going to say. Specilly the Hybrid part. Anyone that listen to hybrid is a prince among men! I love all the new DnB artists. but this had that.....Old school touch which is just.....godlike... This. is. Drum. and. bass.
why not high contrast have bought this tune back and revamped it for the newer generation to appreciate...old one sounds a bit slow comapered to this now...both excellent though.
YAWN micheal jackson!... i would not want to take musical advice from radio one, i think this is a great remix of a great song. i do prefer the original, but i can shake my ass to this one more.
Nah its beefed up and theyve added more drums to it. I'd rather hear a classic remixed like this rather than ripping it the death. I usually hate remixes of old skool tunes but this is great.
the production on this track is clearly above and beyond a synth drumkit and a crappy digital osc synth on FL. The compression alone is masterful, but of course, you already knew that, master producer...:S
thanks, i managed to get it as an mp3, and then found the Evol Intent Remix of papua New Guinea, it's possibly better than this high contrast version. worth checking out
@zaelie i dont know what you meen by "green pasture" but ill do my research on schizophrenia later on. i never did acid. the most illuminating expirence iv had was on truffles (philosophers stone). iv ordered san pedro cacti (mescaline) a week ago and cant wait for that stuff. consciousness is able to open doors to unimaginable worlds wich are just as true and real as this type of world is, in my opinion. dont like alcohol at all. Dimethyltryptamine and mescaline caught my most attention.
