The entrance procession for the 2021 FSSP ordination to the diaconate, at the Cathedral of the Risen Christ in Lincoln, Nebraska.
The eight men holding candles and carrying violet dalmatics, stoles, and maniples were the ones about to be ordained deacons. All are from Our Lady of Guadalupe Seminary in nearby Denton. At the end of the ordination, they were wearing the vestments that they had carried in.
His Excellency Joseph E. Strickland, Bishop of Tyler, Texas, ordained the new deacons.
The new deacons remain in formation for the priesthood. God willing, they will be ordained again as new priests in the coming year.
Kathryn and I traveled to Nebraska because one of the ordinandi comes from our parish in Phoenix. However, it turned out we'd also met two of the other men who, as seminarians, had done brief stints serving our parish.
