If there's one complaint I have about Flite Test it's that you guys are releasing new planes so fast I don't have time to build, fly and crash the last one before a new one comes out. It's an awesome problem to have, keep it up!!
You guys keep getting better and better, from production value, to products, to most importantly new airplane designs! I have a backlog of FT flying things I MUST build, keep up the amazing work. (can't figure out how people complain about what you give us.)
What if...instead of getting a cup of coffee and sitting down to watch an FT episode, we all started the video, then went to get the coffee while the commercial runs. This way, FT gets a little ad money. At least listen to the ad from the other room. ;)
+Chuckles I hate to break it to you, but the ad revenue from you watching the ad is like $0.0001 It is basically meaningless, if we all used ad block or not. In comparison to the sales on kits and parts it is change.
I just can't HELP myself...! Nearly every video I watch from Flite Test, I'm grinning Ear to Ear...! After making 5 of your planes from plans (scratch built), I finally bout a "Store-Bought" Kit. You guys are just having TOO much Fun (and I wished I worked for you). Haha!
Thanks +Balu , the back catalog is going to take a while, but it is going to be done eventually. And speaking of credit, I have to give you and the rest of the FT Forums community credit for all the invaluable feedback to help establish the format for the plans.
Peter, "depressingly working." Funny! Thanks for being awesome guys! This episode had so many cool things! The Explorer is a great modular design, I love the ideas that went into it. I must build the VTOL! The A-tail looked really cool too. All around awesomeness.
This is just so cool... RC designed by RC guys. Great work Peter. The modular concept is fantastic!. The Bronco and the Vtol set up are fantastic. Keep up the good work guys.
I think you released this at a perfect time. No the plane type is not an original itself, however you did a great job at modifying it's features. Thanks!
Josh Bixler, Flite test are the best!!! Thx for being such an inspiration and God bless you for being the person you are. You have been my company latelly. C Pack is on the way to Portugal and my FT Explorer is almost done from the free plans that FT released. Looking forward to get it in the air and share some footage from our coastline with you guys. Thx FLITE TEST for intoducing me to this wonderfull hobbie. Greetings from Portugal 🇵🇹 !!!
If Peter gets paid then your not paying him enough, he is one clever guy he is like brains out of thunderbirds. Well done FliteTest it's great what you're doing for the hobby, you got me into mini quad fpv.
AWSOME!!! Can't wait for tomorrow to get here and D/L the plans!!! Great show guys!!, I always enjoy the videos of the flying and Peter is one great designer!! Thanks for the memory's!!
I don't know if this was already mentioned, but there is an aircraft called "Bronco." The Rockwell OV-10. It looks exactly like Peter's twin. I thought I'd mention it since I couldn't tell if that was planned or not. Another great looking FT design. Thanks guys.
+Balu no thats fine now, i got it for 50 bucks fully assambled and tuned from a buddy from my local RC-Club ;) can't beat that price.... I love that plane... but its funny although.
i love the fomies for new pilots but i feel that flite test needs to cover some advance parts of the hobby. flying in competitions for example. also don't forget that balsa models exist. they've touched on f3k and f1d and this is a more of a personal request but i would love it if they have at least one episode about pattern or f3a. Nowadays most people just want to do 3d and dont really care for other types of flying so i think it important to talk about and show people other types of acrobatic flying like pattern. Also some coverage of other things in the hobby like fuel powered and larger size aircraft would be nice. TLDR: i feel like flite test is really focusing on two parts of the hobby. The new pilot and their the first aircraft and multi-rotors. i feel that, while helping people that are new the hobby is a amazing thing, flite test is kinda lacking content for the more advance pilot who is well past the newbie stage. hopefully flite test reads this and takes it into consideration.
+The silent gamer Yeah I agree. I remember back when Flite Test was small they did every thing. Or at least worked with every thing. But now I think I can say its more focus in on certain aspects of the hobby. Which is great but it would be really cool to see other stuff like scale and balsa stuff. But over all Good work Flite Test!
+The silent gamer Agreed, maybe they could create like a "intermediate" series to follow after their beginner used to condense allot of the tips they have had in previous episodes and talk about physics and tips for doing tricks, competitions, and patterns flying. Also as a offshoot I think it would be cool to see a competition between the flight test crew and either a local school or hobby group near them. Maybe a vote based competition where viewers decide what is the more interesting design? Say a competition where they try to create the most radical recovery design (chute, ejection box for electronics?), or some crazy wing designs such as a variable swept wing. The competition could also be where the plane that looks least like its flight capable, but still can, wins.
+The silent gamer i think the same. my second plane was already a (foam) extra 300, electric. i wanted to fly 3d, and i am still learning. but i think its very fun to just try to fly f3a with precision and its not that easy it may look like. i really think people should try such things out, aswell as the gas or nitro planes would be fun.
Awesome new plane(s)! The Explorer is great but wanna definitely see a Bronco build if not a kit. Peter, you are a genius, that thing is spectacular. Hey here's a challenge for you, make it amphibious! Great job guys.
I appreciate you guys mentioning the EasyStar as many others that have, uh, reproduced that platform have made it seem like they weren't and it was all new. I learned on an EasyStar and modded it as well. Glad to see the platform evolve into something made for modding (which the EasyStar isn't). Very cool FT.
+RadRider33 slightly annoying eh? Not sure why it's annoying but a big part of just wants to believe it and the phantom are awful, despite all the contrary evidence
***** I mean, I'm still using a Phantom FC40 for my Aerial Photography. To say it's outclassed by the newer models would be an understatement. Today, DJI just released a new drone, the Mavic Pro, which now folds up for maximum portability, and does it without sacrificing the 3 axis gimbal or 4K camera, all for the price of a Phantom 3 Pro! DJI gets way to much hate for their products. It's not DJI's fault, it's the people who are irresponsible with their drones faults. With the low price of the Phantom 3 Standard, I am seriously considering upgrading to the newer model.
+Jacob Webb I would second that. Just built my first Quad and Tri-Copter but the damn motors keep burning out... H.K. are already having 4 back so far (the motors were of the size/KV recommended for the vehicles....)
+Tom Chambers You need some guidance on what motor to pick as well as what ESC to use. Motors should last you (from our experience) roughly 2 years with consistent weekly use.
+LotusRobotics On my 3rd motor and only started flying this one of those motors never flew just got to get a bigger esc for one i have fitted to my bix2
when can we get to see some more FT designs and build videos? There are dozens of suggestions on the FT forums but you guys seem to have given up on this side of the hobby :(
Out of all the kits I think this will be the first I attempt to build. Being a complete novice to everything rc aviation I think this is a decent foot in.
You should take you 360 servo mod with the spool and mount it on your tow plane. That way when the glider punches out you can reel in the line. Albeit not as fun as trying to catch someone with it. lol Love the channel btw. Keep it up.
I'd love to see more of this guy's experiments. That vtol is pretty cool. u guys should also do a more advanced series. I'm still a super beginner, but I'd be interested in seeing how crazy yall can get
Oh man..... Ive designed a tiny trainer twin VTOL but haven't built it yet!!! Ive avoided watching any VTOL videos so that I come at it fresh. Ill try not to copy what Peter did. Im aiming for smooth transition between the modes and using two separate controllers; Both being used in self level mode. Once it flies Id be happy to pass on the plans if you are curious.
Reminds me a bit of the old aerobird series from around 7-8 years ago. That was my first plane. Never really got it up in the air due to a damaged wing and no replacements because the plane was discontinued. Mabey it's time to revisit the design
Peter, one thing that would be very neat to try using using the back motor on the vtol while in forward flight to do similar things as the honey badger you featured
I mean it is great to get new people into the hobby but I wish you guys could have a little more fun like you used to like the challenges that you used to have like the flying brick
I'm currently in the process of starting an RC club at my High School, and during the winter, when we can't fly, we want to scratch build, just like on Flite Test!
Peter is an an aeronautical genius. The segment with the Bronco and the glider tow was amazing. It deserved its own video. The aerial video of Josh's glider taken with the Inspire was first rate. It felt like we were in a Cessna looking out the window and seeing a glider close enough to touch. And then the string whip that caught Josh by surprise and Peter whipping people was so funny.
I literally had a plane in my cart at hobbyking. Trashed it because of THE BRONCO. PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE show how you made the VTOL. I have 3 motors that have been waiting for your VTOL to come out! Excellent job on the design.
Phew! an excellent episode, I'd begun to lose hope, and what a smashing little plane. I also agree with some of the comments below though... REAL model reviews ( Sebart Angel 30, Stev trainer, FMS F3A Explorer, Durafly Spitfire MK1 (when it comes out); absolutely let's have some content on F3A/Pattern style flying.
Hay filter test I'm 11 yrs old and I've been flying Ric for 2 and a halvfvfvfvf yrs now I'm training to become a real pilot next year I'm in the RAAF (Royal Australian Airforce) and u guys are inspiring me and have inspired me HECK my high school is called Aviation High So thanks guys keep up they comedy work 😀😀😉😉😉😉😎😎
Just a thought, could you add a small 10 gram CO2 bottle to your glider or powered aircraft? Sort of a JATO? Maybe with a release after thrust mechanism?
What a great plane! Too bad I lost my plane from an fpv blackout with my powerpod :( If I still had it I would definitely would have spent the time building this. cheers
What if you put the tail motor upside down in the VTOL so when the forward motors would transition to forward flight the Tough Tilt would transition too. Then you would get a pusher puller combination with thrust vectoring!
just a thought, bear with me im new to this, if the vtol Bronco's rear prop was configured to face down on vertical flight you could leave it turning in horizontal flight and have a smoother transition??
How many flights do you expect to get out of the FT platforms? I only got about 2 flights out of my FT Viggen before the main wing/tail was too warped to control it. planning to cut a new one out.
I doubt that this will ever be answered, but does anyone know what the explorer might be loosely based off of (or was it a mix/ completely their own design)?
+Josh Bixler I am also interested in finding out more information on this. I work for a small private Academy in Florida and would love to implement something like this. Huge fan of FT and all you do for the community.
+msevyt bigger=easier smaller=harder. but it all depends of the kind of the airplane. by using bigger wings on that plane you probably have to get better motors and make the fuselage longer.
What happened to the shinden?! I was so excited for it from the rocket video with it but i havent heard about it since. I think we'd all enjoy a canard warbird from you guys
Finally! Thanks for demoing my OpenAeroVTOL firmware. Nice model, and good that FliteTest has parts that make it easier to do. The transition needs some tuning and practise, but I think it could be pretty smooth once done. Have a look at the videos of other successful models on the RCGroups thread www.rcgroups.com/forums/showthread.php?t=1972686
I would like to know how we can become a part ft connection we have a group of kids at my church who needs something to keep them busy and interested. I know that this would work!, Thank you!
Ok you got me I want to make the Vtol that Peter built. I need details a hole purchase list from the store and as much detail as you can muster Please.
