Thanks for this video and the series, Mortimer. They have all been very useful to me as another returner to the hobby. Like you, I'm amazed at how many features are packed into this little radio. I will be very interested to see it's replacement when announced.

Looks like a simple replacement, great video for those so inclined...I have a 22yr old 817 that has a million miles on it and never had a single failure with it. It has been on 24/7 serving as a band hopping WSPR station for the last 3 years. Did that Socket set belong to the XYL being pink and all??? :-)) 73
