Hey Guys, in this video we take on the flagship with the Engi A cruiser, a ship heavily reliant on its drone control. This was a crazy eventful run, with genuinely one of the closest finals fights I've ever experienced! Enjoy!
and the thing to finish the flagship was the very same drone that he held since the begining! what a fitting end for an engi vessel. i feel like this is canomically what happenned in ftl lore now
The problem with drones is that they intentionally fly right into the enemy weapon beams as they shoot in order to waste as many drone parts as possible.
I remember that the Engi A was actually the first ship I beat on Normal difficulty. I do think it's harder in the advanced edition though. There are a lot more anti-drone stuff, and more aguments means that the Drone Recovery Arm is harder to come by. For the Engi A, I also like to keep the outer doors open to space. Since there's no systems in those room and it's not a hallway, there's no reason to ever keep them not vented. For Phase 3, it's also good to actually hack their Mind Control -- their Level 3 Mind Control is absolutely killer. Hacking it frees your crew and also takes control of one of theirs. One advanced tactic I haven't noticed you doing is swapping crew members in a room. Pause, move both crew members out, and move them back in the order you want. Since enemies only attack the guy in their square, you can swap crew members to keep a 2 on 1 situation.
It’s good, but the wind up time kills you. If you don’t have something to keep you alive for the 35ish seconds it takes to hit full power you’re boned. Also if it gets hit or hacked it loses its progress and you have to restart that 35 second timer
@@Alphadog2064 I think we all know it's a gimmick weapon compared to Burst Laser II, Flak Gun, and Halberd. But it's a fun as hell gimmick. I just put threw out Hacking, cloaked to get that free shot at the start and loaded some 1 cost weapons in the other two slots to act as a buffer for Ion.
The fight at 31:15 is a summary of my entire experience with this game. I always run into the most overpowered ships in the first 3 rooms. It's absurd. Usually can't upgrade because I'm spending all my money repairing from near death (if not just dying).
Loving the FTL content! This was hardcore to the last man! You did seem to have ridiculously horrible RNG at times, but glad to see such a close finish.
Hey! Your videos convinced me to but ftl! Idea for a future video: tier list of ships and their layouts, then maybe separate videos for weapons, drones etc?
When I play this ship I always look for the drone recovery arm, and go 3x combat 1. As long as you can deal with the cost in drone parts, combat drones just melt everything. The strength of engi ships is they get 3 drones, so the REAL way to win with an Engi A is to play to its strength. 3 combat 1s or 2 combat 1 defense 2 is really powerful. You gotta spend alot of power on that many drones so you can't afford big guns and cloaking and all that. That strategy is better played on stealth or kestrel.
two small bombs and halberd beam. drone /mindcontrol/cloaking upgrades maxed out and one defensive and boarding drone. You need to be lucky with stores and resources.
i like youre energy, good commentary! this video actually helped me getting the flag ship beaten with this ship, and overall get much better at the game! thank you.
You probably know this by now but I’m pretty sure all ships charge their ftl when you out of fuel to stop situations where you can’t do anything to their ship but you can’t run because no fuel.
Apparently if you have infinite drones, 2 combat 1 and 1 combat 2 + 2 drone augments... and max everything. You will not beat the Rebel Flagship. Shields are just too much.
People who hate on Engi A have no idea how incredibly powerful Drones actually are with Ion weaponry. You don't need to pray to RNGsus as much when you can auto-suppress shields or two subsystems of your choice out of the box with just the Ion Blast Mk 2. The only real weakness of the ship is its lack of a 4th weapon bay.
You can micro the iion shots, especially early game, to take down the shield and then assist with taking out the weapons.... on the first fight of the run you had an opportunity to be completely safe yet you didnt use your incredible weapon to shut down theirs...
You should have sended all your crew except engine and pilot to fight the boarders in the medbay at the end, not just the rock, he cant handle 3 men even in the medbay. That photo finish through, wow.
3 years late but dude the scrap recovery arm buy is a scam. On average if you get it in the first sector It will only net you 200 scrap more by the last stand maybe. Short term survivability vs 200 extra scrap if you survive.
Do you have mods or something your Shields look weird it shows you where The Rebel Fleet will be in every jump and at 6:48 you can see the Zoltan that doesn't look normal
So, question: does shield pierce stack? For example if you have two heavy lasers shoot an empty room at the same time, would it damage through a 2-shield ship?
no. It's why beam weapons are like halberd are garbage unless you have a way to take out their shields once you get to ships that have 2 shields or higher. It's why missles and bombs are devastating but also impractical since it needs ammo. 1 missle, 1 beam, 1 laser, 2 drone with recovery arm, and you have a strong attack ship. What I prefer are two burst lasers with three shots each so you can kill all shields at a cost of 4 power but good luck finding them on one run. Then I like 2 attack drones with recovery arm so my drones get recovered. It's a good attack system that saves resources. Drones with a recovery arm is one of my favorite things in the game. But to each their own because you have to play with what the game gives you.
Understandable but part of the draw is I want to see him win with this ship. I wouldn’t mind watching runs that fail but rn I wanna see engi A taken to the top
Was doing runs while watching this, instead of after watching this, then my ship had only 1 crew (Engi B) and he died to a disease on a derelict ship, so rough.
