The FTM-500 isn't available to purchase or look at in the US but there is a video showing it being demonstrated and a manual to read! I look at what we can learn about the control head and the body.

This model also has the option to plug the mic into the head as opposed to the body....I like it!

Looks like the FT857D (HF, VHF, UHF, ALL-MODE) is staying with me for the coming years. the remote head is much smaller making any mobile install an easy task. Did we mention VHF SSB option? looks like Yaesu is going back when it comes to design as well as offered options.

👏👏👏👏👏👏 I AM EXCITED WITH ANTICIPATION! Thank you for posting this update for the Yaesu FMT-500D. Whether or not the menu is like the 200 than the 300 was the deal breaker for me. I never expected all of the new, excellent feature on top of that.

Looks to me like a bigger and dual reciever version of the ftm200dr. Makes since but I wonder what final price will be. I get inflation and such, but 700 seems high for a ftm200 with crossband, enhanced speaker and another receiver/transmitter. Little else.

At the 1:47 mark, item #4 indicates that the SSM-85D mic plugs into the head unit. Another welcome and much needed change that had been rumoured but not confirmed.

Is this a TRUE Dual Bander like the 300? I have an FTM 200, and it has been a SOLID little rig. Do you know if the 500 Head unit will fit on the Body of the 200, or is the circuitry enough different to make that a non-starter? AC7AA.

The FTM-300 has the Quick Release system as well.

I'm in a situation where I need a new vhf/uhf rig.... but if I go ahead and get a ftm-200 or 300 I'll wind up being sorry when the 500 finally gets released, BUT if I wait to buy the 500 I believe I'll also be sorry...... for spending that much money on something that could have had my requirements served by the 300 or 200 !..... yes I know all too well, these are my problems while others around our planet are digging into garbage piles to feed their families....sad

It's too big and too deep. This is a design mistake. It eliminates a bunch of mounting options.

You can mount the head very very flexibly, I think folks are going to make it work.

@@randominternet5586 I have an old icom 880 dualband mobile in the car right now. The head unit is about the volume of two pack of chewing gum. A couple of neo magnets and it's securely attached to the car console yet super quick to detach and hide. What's in this Yaesu that needs so much space? Vacuum tubes?
