I was a Rolls Royce engineer for 50 years, specialising in the Silver Cloud, and the Silver Cloud 111 Flying Spur was my all time favourite. I looked after 5 Flying Spurs privately for a Hungarian chap for several years, and also ran my own classic car workshop in Fulham and had Coys as one of my clients. Happy days. Unfortunately Coys demise was somewhat shady with some less that enamoured customers.
@@victorseastrom3455 Victor, I agree, the mechanical brake servo is prone to oil contamination and I have overhauled more than my fair share over the years. I found that if you replace the servo drive deal while there is a small dribble of oil apparent, then this tends to make a path past the new seal, so I preferred to replace the seal when the gearbox was empty, maybe whilst adjusting the bands and leaving the drive shaft with only a light smear of oil as a lubricant for the new seal.Great brakes when working correctly though even if it stumped some MOT inspectors in the early days as to why the front brakes recorded zero because(as I’m sure you know) the prop shaft has to be turning for the servo to work.
An utterly sublime way to spend 42 minutes. Thank you Jodie, I thoroughly enjoyed every moment. Being a classic car enthusiast since a young boy I can relate to everything Mr. Kidston was saying, follow your passion, working does feel like a hobby! I always wondered who owned FU2 after Fiona...
It was an absolute pleasure watching this interview (more than once). I would describe my teens as "old money with no money." It wasn't money that opened all the doors for me in my life, it was my ease at conversing with anyone in the world. I learned that effortlessly at home. That was the greatest gift of my life.
Well, thank you, as always Jodie. Simon's advice regarding following one's passion is such sage advice. I haven't commented before but have taken in many of your videos and they are always wonderful. At 61 I do remember you from the 90's, bravo for your spotlight that continues to glow. Like your many other interesting shows that feature true characters, this one really has a subtle human element that is so deftly delivered. More please...
What a great interview. In my opinion your best interview/portrait by far. Gliding through London with you hearing those exquisite stories just gave me the perfect brain-break from the actual craziness.
Jodie, Jodie, the most captivating interview you've ever done, such a gracious and wonderful guest, but your questions, and your enthusiasm brought out the best, in words and stories. Thank you thank you! More of Kidston/Kidd show, please....
The best by far - have been following Mr Kidston & it was fascinating to hear about his career & some of the many great cars he has been involved with - you did say at the end there would be more from The Kidd/Kidston Road Show so yes please can we have some more! 👏👏👏👏👏🙌
Ohh, I love these stories. Simon is a legend. Lovely story with his dads Bugatti. I remember another story where he swapped a perfectly restored 300 SL Gullwing with one he could start all over restoring. - But this was his dads.. ❤️
I just found Simon Kidston's RU-vid Chanel a few months ago and I Kidd you not (see what I did there) I watched every video in a couple of days. As a former filmmaker and car guy I was enthralled and delighted with his short movies. They are fun, whimsical, funny and filled with his passion for great classic cars of the world. Thank you Jodie for giving us a deeper insight to the inscrutable and urbane Mr. Kidston!.
What amazing content have you putting up lately, I'm not a snob, nor classics or EV lover or anything... I just love cars especially, but beautiful/mechanical wonders etc... and KiSS content is just on another level... How interesting characters are appearing in your videos, it's amazing to see people who genuinely appreciate cars no matter if classic, sports car or anything... I've been born in a family quite connected to cars and racing, and also heard and experienced lots of unbelievable stories myself, and wouldn't believe if I wouldn't actually be there, so I also find stories from other figures really interesting and brings back some of the best own memories. Amazing !!!
Absolutely bloody wonderful, Simon is such an interesting chap . Well that Roller what can I say it’s exquisite. My grandfather was an illegitimate son of a lord and in his youth had some very nice motors one been a Bugatti type 43 wish that one had stayed in the family. Please keep these fantastic videos coming miss Kidd . Thank you.
Aren’t these Silver Clouds fabulously so glamorous! Aristocratic Architecture on Wheels, created in a different world , to die for. Saying that I’ve always been an admirer of the later Silver Shadows. Wonderful stories of life amongst classic motor cars
Wasn't sure if I was going to enjoy this one as much as the others. How wrong I was! What an interesting and grounded guy despite moving in the circles he does . Love his passion, and he's right about the human aspect of cars. Great work Jodie 👏
As a car and Film buff, did you know that while you were sat in the lovely Rolls looking at the now redeveloped Coys showroom, you were parked outside what was used as Daniel Craig's mews house from the 2004 film Film Layer Cake. Fun fact. London has such a rich film history. Please both of you keep up these great little films on your channels :)
Now i can’t say I’m the biggest lover of Rolls Royce cars. But that is by far the most beautiful one I’ve seen.Absolutely gorgeous.Great interview, such an interesting guy
Have followed Simon on Instagram for a few years and love his posts, but it is fascinating to hear him talk about his life, business and old cars at length. Wonderful video. Thanks for sharing.
Fantastic Jodie for another great story. Your style is so refreshing, your following your dream, I can see that in your delivery, you are living what Simon said people should do.
What a truly wonderful story with a very sentimental ending. Mr Kindston life is very interesting and very fascinating with how he started and he has followed his passion to get him where he is today.
Hi Jodie - I think this is the first of your videos I’ve seen where you or your guest aren’t flying down the road in an exotic car; and you know, it just doesn’t matter. Your ability to make your guests feel comfortable and to be open is absolutely phenomenal. This is an exceptional interview! I’ve seen a number of Simon’s films, but hadn’t been able to get a coherent picture of Simon from them. After watching your interview with Simon, it all makes sense. Thank you!!
I wish I had followed my heart and worked in the classic car business as Simon has done. Great to hear his story and he comes across both as a genuinely lovely guy and someone who really knows his niche inside out. Great video. I love the style of these videos as they focus on the people as much as (or more than) the cars. LOVE the number plate on a '65 RR. Classic!!
Every time I walk away from your show I just watched, my day is so much better and I feel better about myself. Thanks for being so elegant with your presentation and you give so much greater human value to our passion for cars! Please make it a great day! Never stop dreaming!
@@KiddinaSweetShop thanks I didn’t expect it I have become a huge fan of your's, I get so much out of your show , not just the cars , but your connection with the people that your program is about that day. You make me feel as if I'm sitting in the same space, good job on you, the world is a better place because of you! Since it's evening there , make it a great evening, jw
What a marvellous episode! As with the Brian Johnson interview, it's almost like being there and just chatting classic cars with your mates. It would be wonderful if you could track down Alain DeCadenet and do something similar? Now there's a man with a motoring history! We'll keep our fingers crossed. X
You've done it Jodie! We have watched his films, marvelled over his cars, seen him at Auctions on the box, and have now heard his story. Very well done! He is one of the few people who can pull off having that number plate!
What a modest and knowledgeable man whose passion for cars is paramount. Thank you for a fascinating 45 minutes of viewing , you really do find such a interesting mix of car nuts / petrol heads to interview.
One of the reasons why I love your channel is the wonderful stories we get to hear, and Simon is a master storyteller. I love hearing his adventures trying to get his first job in the business. And about his father's red Type 57. Love the "rudest registration in London." Thank you for another top-notch video Jodie; and I want to see you drive that black Muira in the future!!!🌹
Some good driving there by Simon even while he's talking: fully concentrated, using his indicators, peripheral vision. That car must be such a joy to drive.
What a great guy Mr Kidson is ,he really across comes well ,I could listen to him for hours ,it was very informative and relaxing interview . Your best to date I think well done Jodie .
I found Simon through an acquintance of mine on Instagram with lots of pictures of beautiful cars, nice to attach a character and a voice to a man. I love the way he words things and talks about stuff and I found a lot interesting as the 20 year old almost getting out of uni who's interested in cars aswell thinking over my future right now. Great wisdom on following your passion instead of chasing money. Find myself thinking about the former. Fascinating video. Great job, Kidd(s)! (yes that was a terrible attempt at a pun)
Some people ( S.K.) you could just hear talking for hours, so many interesting stories and history. Great content, where would we be without youtube :)
Many years ago, I was an AA road patrol and worked in the West End of London. One evening I got a call over the radio to a pink Jaguar E type. Problem was a puncture. Registration FU 2. Yes it was the lady herself, Fiona Richmond. The car had chrome wire wheels with knock off hubs. Never forgotten that job!
This was a fantastic interview and far too short. I have a lot of admiration for Simon Kidston and the business he's built. The Lamborghini LP400 restoration he oversaw was simply sensational. Would love to see a follow up video with his collection...
OMGoodness, now that is a beauty.the U.S. where I live would have no chance at all to come close to this British Beauty. Two words to describe, Stunning, Art…! I’m not an envious type , but I can tell you that I would definitely cry if I were able to own this Art Work. You were on spot when you stated that a Gem like this should be driven, and not just looked at . Just looking at this car would be a shame . No more to say than, I am so thankful that this Artwork was created. Thank You for Showing. You are a lucky man.
As interesting and enjoyable as expected, Jodie, Simon is a class act. Loved the "Michael Caine Prelude" (The Man Who Would Be King!, Dirty Rotten Scoundrels!) and the Lauren and Atlantique discussions. The "Father's Bug" on Simon's channel is one of the best and most touching car vids on RU-vid. Thanks so much!
Good evening Jodie . Yet another cracking show ! Your passion makes it exceedingly easy for your equally passionate guests to quickly feel at home ! You can gently squeeze answers from questions most would would not dare to ask ! I actually thought that FU2 belonged to Fiona Fullerton but l'm probably wrong ! As always Jodie , thoroughly enjoyable . Thankyou .
@@KiddinaSweetShop Seriously it's a really clever way to do an interview - get a petrolhead no one really knows, or a star who isn't known for being a secret petrolhead, bit of a raconteur, good background, get them in their own car, stalk their old haunts, talk about the vehicle(s) - and then as is the case with 'Mrs Mason' finish in a pub talking about the wider world, love of all things 'wheels' etc. This format should be a TV show. It's not like they can get out the car if they don't like a question. Imagine the same format with people like Guy Berryman or Idris Elba - both not known for their car collections, or use the fashion connections and go for broke Ms Kidd by trying to land the big one with Ralph Lauren! The trip down Coys memory lane was a bit sad.....anyway failing all that, nip down to look at the Dagenham Ford 'secret' collection...you'll need to smile sweetly to get in but it's worth it.
What an epic and inspiring interview. I have been following Simon's work for awhile now...had been waiting for an intimate interview like this! Thank you!!
Jodie!!!...this channel has become a beacon for all of us who love cars, stories about great cars and the people who have the collections, the passion, the history with all things beautiful, important, fast and automotive ...This was a fascinating video with a fascinating man involved in this specific petrol obsession we share...I was riveted..and I feel kinda sorta British after feeling myself a part of this amazing conversation...Thank you for your especially personal insight into the love of cars and the characters that make the car world go round...❤💯
What a wonderful gentleman. Great to hear Simons history. FU 2 bloody brilliant 👌 I'd love to find one of my Father's cars. I definitely would not be able to afford them but it would be lovely just to see them. Can't wait to see more of Simon. Love you Jodie ❤️
What a treat! Thank you for this vid Jodie. I am ashamed to say I had never heard of Simon. I now know he is as much of a car lover as we all are!! These vids are brilliant, thank you Jodie.
What a mesmerizing moment, charismatically deployed even if, sadly, pointing out truths that hurt, as I was born in a family of connoisseurship that often makes me nostalgic when I see, emerging from a flood of vulgarity, the speculating eyes of those summering through the French Riviera and Monaco, where when I was a young dandy, one could reach the hotel lobby without being overly filmed by mannerless wannabes. In fact, I would wish for my dad to return to this earth and see how he would cope with an hotelier that lacks the skills to ''congediate'' those people from the front and parking lots of his 'Five Star' establishment. I thank you for a great 40 minutes of intelligent vlogging.
Absolutely fantastic episode! London + Classic Car + good stories and lovely people! Please Kidd keep doing the amazing content you have done since last months! Pure entertainment
My first job in the motor industry was in the Service Department as a Junior Manager, then I went to Selling Cars, Second Hand and New, which I spent an enjoyable 5 years doing it, before going into Marketing for another 10 years.
I love listening to the stories that you get from people although you do like to pick people who like to talk...which helps. What a gorgeous Silver Cloud III. Only ever seen one in the mental. As always Jodie, great content and cannot wait until the next one.
I also think one of the most interesting and involving discussions to date. Love the quality of the Kidston films and BTW love the beautiful woodwork and the plate on the RR. Very fortunate if your passion earns you a good living. I’m a corporate lawyer and hate the boredom after 30 years, but it allows me to indulge my passion for collecting cars and everything Le Mans in particular. Interesting that many classic car people also love mechanical watches over Apple etc, and often old school valved Hi Fi over streaming.
Finally!...a moments peace to enjoy your fab video. That number plate!!. Great to hear all about this side of the car scene and love the Michael Caine collection. Great stuff 👏 Cheers, Steve
Another gem of an interview. Thank you Miss Kidd. Mr Kidson comes across very well, I'd buy a used, sorry, pre enjoyed car off him any day of the week, that I happen to win the lotto on. Kidders.
I didn't really expect to enjoy that, as much as I very thoroughly did! Which is very silly of me because it's Kidd in a Sweet Shop, always enjoyable! Wonderful chap, stories, and car...
A wealthy couple here in central California bought A brand new 65 Silver Cloud III, Mulliner Park Ward which took six months for delivery! Fabulous automobile done in gold with the matching mouton over lays....they sold it a couple of years later and bought a boring black/white Shadow!!!
