Fudgy’s One Year Time-lapse: plus, new doggies! 

In a weird way, it was really nice to actually hear him say they got divorced. I knew they did, but someone finally said it outloud and it made me feel like it was gonna be okay.

Watching these videos back and forth between simon and martina makes me feel like my parents are divorced and Im staying at over at one parent for the weekend.

Simon and Martina, don't feel like you guys have to keep up with RU-vid. You guys have your own adventures to discover and you don't have to tell everyone what's up. Live your lives to the fullest!

I'm here to say goodbye as well. I first started watching your videos when I was 13 or 14, back in late 2008 or early 2009. Those early years watching you guys in Asia really influenced me, and when I graduated high school I moved to Taiwan to learn Mandarin, thanks in huge part to your example of living in Asia. I visited Seoul twice, went to the "You Are Here" cafe, and checked out other places from your videos there. After you guys moved to Tokyo, I had another trip planned to Asia and made sure to have a stopover in Tokyo to check out some of the things you guys had shown off in videos as well. I loved your philosophy about life, travel, love, and marriage. I thought Simon was a great example of a supportive and loving husband and saw him as a role model for what I should look for in a future partner. A year or two after Martina started talking about her health issues, I myself developed an immune system disorder. How you guys talked about dealing with it and working through depression, became another huge touchpoint for me. Sadly these recent videos and insta posts from Simon fall quite far from the person and character I thought he was and one-half of the channel that I originally subscribed for. Seeing Martina continue to post the same awesome adventure and #buildaladder content over the last year, staying true, IMO, to the ethos of the channel was really professional of her. I know breakups are messy, but the snarkiness and 'offness' from Simon is not the content I signed up for. I'll be following Martina over at King Kogi.

It's compassionate to spay and neuter your pets. It's compassionate to keep them on leashes too. Fudgy is friendly but a lot of dogs aren't! Some dogs are aggressive. If he were to run up to one of them he could get really hurt. Some dogs are terrified of other dogs, as well. Fudgy may want to be friends but he could really set the training of a dog like that back.

I've been following EYK since the Music Mondays era and I can't believe Martina is leaving a channel she worked so hard for and battled to maintain alive just bc this man didn't want to make a new account for his yoga lifestyle/dog posts (which also named after their dead dog) after she repeatedly told him it affected her.

When you haven't watched the channel in a while and then you find out they're separated, simon lost a lot of weight and theres a new dog?!? I cant...process..

It’s hard to know you two are separating ways. It’s truly the end of an era. I discovered your channel back in the Korea days when I was going through a tough time. Your cheerful demeanour, creativity and curiosity always put a smile on my face. I also enjoyed seeing a different kind of relationship (one that wasn’t afraid to be cute and open on camera) modelled on RU-vid. But obviously that relationship stopped being fulfilling and happy. I didn't realise how quickly big dog breeds grow, the different from one month to another is insane! Such a sweet boy who seems so full of love. Petra and Rocksy look like such cute little sweeties too. Also Rocksy sitting in the back looking at the camera while you were talking melted my heart into a puddle. Glad you're doing well!

Simon instead of addressing the hate please address the future of the channel. Personally this channel feels odd because a huge part of it was the relationship between you and martina. Keeping simonandmartina where actually is simon OR martina is odd. I like you both and id be glad to to watch you, separately... Its just weird to come here and im sure other people think the same.

An example of compassion would be allowing Martina to keep Meemers permanently instead of dragging an elderly cat back and forth across Canada.

I love you Simon and wish you the best... it IS, however, kind of striking to see you so different than what I remember (from teaching English in Korea to traveling with M, to living in Japan and eating ice cream nonstop). As soon as you stop making Meemers go through hours of highly stressful road trips just so you and your new-loud-over energetic fur babies can hang out with him and his easily-stressed-senior-cat-with-crystals self, I'll be happy for you and try to support whatever new endeavors you pursue. I feel like at this point they should just create a separate channel. It feels odd watching. This is simon AND martina not OR.

I haven’t watched these videos in almost a year. It’s so crazy to see how you’ve both changed. Not knowing you at all personally and just what I see on videos I can only know so much. Relationships online are so odd cause you only see what’s going on, on camera. It feels almost like grieving a loss of someone you know Irl but it’s nice seeing you talking more personally about stuff. Hope you’re taking care of yourself

I know it may not be the best option regarding financial situations but please consider splitting off and creating your own channels. I don't think that this weird limbo of scattered uploads is beneficial to either party who clearly wants to do their own thing.

Negative Pressure Productions have a brilliant podcast from a month back with Martina. Really highlights her multitude of talents. I never realised before just how talented she is. Well worth a watch. I hope she does more. So well-rounder and balanced.

The turtle’s aquarium is really sad. Please give it a proper land are. Imagine being a turtle and having to spend your life swimming for lack of land... Please, please, please read up on how to better its habitat and make it nicer. Thank you!

All for mindfulness, but checked out the Instagram of Simon's friend and co-host, Aliana, and I've never really understood how overly produced, bikini-clad posts reflect mindfulness. These kind of accounts strike me as more self-absorbed and attention seeking than mindful... yes, I'm being pre-judgy but it's a turn off.

him saying that he wants viewers to respect his boundaries without clearly stating what they are. He's doesn't want people to make assumptions about his life, but if his videos are about his personal life are we allowed to comment on it? Because people are commenting about the subject matter he is putting out there, him and his dog. It should help him to switch the focus away from himself and onto other topics, where the focus can be that topic. Which appears to be the direction he wants to go in. As long as you post on a channel that has historically centered around your personal life, in Korea, in Japan and in Canada, the focus is going to be on you. Set clear boundaries and if that involves reinventing yourself and your "brand", please be clear about it. Ya know?

I love yall, and sad to say maybe its best to leave this channel for good...And create yall own since this channel was made for both of yalls adventures. This channel is basically an epic memory base for fans..sadly its not the same home for yall. Hope for the best.

It's really great that you guys are doing what's best for yourselves and that you're into yoga and are becoming more aware and healthy. As a subscriber of 10 years this is just awkward though...No post about where the channel is going, Martina has said she has felt uncomfortable with the channel and is leaving. Not sure I'll stay subscribed.

I stumbled upon EYK completely at random 8 years ago and it changed my life forever. I became interested in daily life in Korea and Korean pop culture and history. From music Mondays I became a K-pop fan, which has been a lot of fun. I’ve been watching dramas for years now. I was sad when the days of the week content started winding down and when they moved to Japan, but I certainly didn’t begrudge them doing what they wished with their lives and their channel. If you told me eight years ago that I would someday see this video I would never, ever have believed you. It’s all just terribly sad, but this is no longer EYK, and Simon, who, alongside Martina, used to bring me so much joy, is someone I no longer recognize and don’t particularly like. I’m sorry, Simon, this is just the truth. I truly wish you the best and hope you find your happiness in the years ahead. I’ll always be grateful for the ways in which you and Martina enriched my life, right up to the present.

I'm extremely sad to have reached this point, but this vibe... There is too much unsaid, a clear resentment towards the community and a very dense feeling that things are not as they are presented. I could explain in detail what, spiritually and psychologically (the non-verbal communication in this video gave me the chills) throws me off and gives me a "danger" vibe, but in the end I don't see how this would be of any relevance. I'm just saying this because I have been an engaged follower for several years and I think I'm entitled to express my opinion once before unsubscribing. Leaving with the feeling this post might be deleted is even sadder, so I'll just be going.

This is all fine and dandy except for the fact that Meemers is being co-parented. Cats at his age can have very negative health results after moving so often. Please let Martina have Meemers full time, you have 3 large dogs. Edit: fixed a spelling error

The magic that once was eat your kimchi is gone. The FAPFAPs, WANKs, WTFs and the Open the Happy’s, the TL;DRs and the Kpop music Monday’s, and all the other special moments that made this channel my favorite for years and years has faded away. It’s bittersweet to see Simon and Martina separated after all their beautiful talks about what their love meant to each other. It almost felt like their words meant nothing when they announced the separation. I know life goes on and they are both still wonderful people, but this channel is a ghost of itself. It is ok to let it die and move on. It would almost feel better that way to at least let the door fully close on a wonderful chapter.

This channel doesn’t have what it used to have, and I’m not here for meditation and dogs. I’ll be following the fantastic other creator who really made this channel what it was.

I’m definitely not speaking for everyone in this community, but this channel just isn’t what it used to be. Even from a creative standpoint. I understand things are hard and changing, but at this point why not dissolve and go on with your own creative projects separately. Martina just expressed how she wasn’t feeling safe in the community via EYK IG story and Simon is obviously healing at a different pace. I just feel like I’m being dragged as a viewer just so they can salvage what they can from all this. Happy to be wrong and I understand I’m not entitled to the full picture, but with years of support, I don’t feel like we’ve had much clarity as to what direction this channel is going which I feel like is the least we deserve. Hopefully they don’t just change the channel completely and force an ultimatum of take it or leave it

Life is the greatest teacher. I'm happy for the both of you and I can't wait to see what life has in store for you. I wish you both the best and I'm happy to see that you guys are doing well. I went through a lot in the past year myself, my anxiety got so bad and watching your videos really helped me through everything. I learned a lot from your videos, how to be positive, use humor to make things lighter and staying honest to myself. I hope you both continue to bring content whenever you get the chance to.

I do not know why but this makes me really sad. I have to accept that he has 'reinvented' himself to cope with his new situation. But he always seemed so quirky and goofy when the channel was actually Simon AND Martina I wonder if he was just exaggerating it all to keep himself afloat. You can never know what's inside someone even though he did this emotional video about his tattoo and all that we can only ever see the version he lets show. I am not trying to hate on him or denounce his progress or any of that sort. It just makes me feel stuff and I try to make sense of that. Maybe I find like minded folks here...

Because of the blocking on IG, and snappy replies and the turning on your community I have NO interest in seeing Simon on this channel. What ever is going on, in HIS life he needs to move on and make another channel and leave the real content to Martina. The fact that you keep ignoring people about the topic is awkward. You said you dislike social media and is shallow and vain so why are you on here making content? For the money obviously. But seriously why is this STILL being drug out. if this is the future of the channel, then sadly i'm out. which breaks my heart as i (and many others) have grown attached to both you and the channel. i cannot say what's best for you two but as a viewer, i wish you'd both make a video promoting your NEW channels and leave this channel as a milestone in your's career. one video each, explaining where you are now (in terms of social media) and then leave this channel alone.

It’s really weird because this is normally the kind of content I would love - I got into spirituality last year myself (though in my own way) and this might interest me. Also the cuteness of Petra losing it at the sweet paws part was cute haha. But this is all just too weird for me, I’m sorry. So, what I'm getting from this video is that Martina was the one who made this channel magical the whole time. Should I invest my personal time watching a channel/podcast of people talking about meditation, pretentious "I'm worldly, so your opinion is boring" conversations, and disclaimers that say we can't attack/anayze him, because according to him you're not allowed to, even though it's about his personal life? I'm happy you're both alive and okay, but naming your pet after a previous pet, taking the channel she worked harder on than you and acting like she was somehow holding you back the whole time? Nahhh, I'm good fam. You should start anew, instead of carrying all the subs through something we didn't sub for in the first place. Another idea might be listing off both your new channels, and giving us an actual option, unlike what you're trying to do to your viewers right now...Take care.

I have a lot of animals too. There are days when I don't want to get up or do anything then I remember I have animals to feed and pet and clean up for. They provide me a purpose when I find no meaning in life and provide me joy and happiness and companionship. They have saved me more times than I can count. I wish you all the best.
