Thanks for doing what you do! I'm working on getting my CDL by the end of October and I want to do flatbed with either Melton, Maverick or TMC. One to two year from now, would you recommend I buy my hotshot truck and 40ft trailer or should I buy a tractor and 48-53ft trailer. I'm in great shape and I like staying active and working outside. Rain, snow and cold weather doesn't bother me. I live in the Northeast, so I'm used to it. Which of the two is a better business model 1-2 years down the road. I want to get my flatbed experience working for one of the top three flatbed companies first. I trust and value your advice. Thanks!

It's best you don't deal with a fuel card and deal with your business debit card from your bank, this way you always have control of how much money is coming out. Your bank debit card won't charge you a fee. Also find out your cost per mile to operate, this way you'll know exactly how much money the load will pay. Net not gross.

I rarely buy fuel from the big name truckstops. I save by going to Quicktrip, Speedway, Thornton's. You'll save on average 15cents a gallon. I just use the big truckstop to park n sleep n shower. They're over priced, ur paying for the amenities they offer. Fuel, food, parking, showers and mechanic shop.

I have a question if anyone in the comments know the answer please let me know. So I bought my semi truck and leased with a company they offered me a fuel card but I didn’t take it. Now a friend just bought he’s truck and leased herre in the same company but he did accept the CFN fuel card. The ppg in Washington is around $2.70 but when he uses his fuel card they charge $1.00 per gallon??? Why is is so cheap? What’s the catch ?

Is it better to get a fuel card through a factoring company or as an individual, also do all factoring companys run credit checks?

Love the videos, been driving locally for over 20 years and really dont have anything to show for it. Been thinking about buying my own truck and going out on my own, I'm also a Veteran who is heavily involved with my Veterans group nationally so I can free up time to do this and still work and make money which is the name of the game.....keep up the videos it's a huge help.

How often do you use the "dat truckers edge" board?

What is factoring?
@onerich8876
@onerich8876 6 лет назад
Factoring is basically a company that pays you out for loads you ran. Instead of waiting for the broker to pay you out in 15days you can get I️t in 2days with a Factoring company

Good You Tube on fuel cards. The big thing is where the card holder is getting paid and how they make money. That's what you have to look at for cards. As a guy who has been in the fuel business and issues Pacific Pride cards we make our money based on selling more at our local sites or locally with our trucks. Being local we also can focus more on locking down a fuel card to avoid theft if you have people driving under you. www.staroilco.net/upgrade-your-fleet-cards-security-features/ If you look in your local market near where you turn around you can probably find a local guy with a great deal on diesel there. Then you just have to worry about good pricing over the road. Flying J/Pilot their goal is to save you money on fuel and make it up with everything else they do. If you are getting an advance it's probably on Comdata so you got to look at what price the truck stop charges Comdata versus cash or another card (be aware some places charge over $.10 a gallon or more to take a fleet card). Still others have negotitaed good discounts over the road. Usually Gasbuddy.com or looking at the national truck stop pages can help you find a good price for diesel. Also be aware of factoring and how they are making money. What are they charging you for fuel and what are they charging you to collect your invoices. Every time i have looked at factoring it's been a bad deal for our customers. If you can get your credit score up above 700 and be conservative on how you take on bills and pay for things you can often get a much lower cost bank loan to pay quickly for fuel reducing the cost and avoiding the need to factor. I realize starting out its hard to get there though. Ask your local bank about a "revolving line of credit" secured by your receivables. Then you can just pay a book keep to really track that as a service and the local bank would loan against those invoices at a way cheaper rate than a factoring company. Great video though.
