Kim has progressed SO FAR, it's amazing.... It won't be long before she is in fact ready for approaches and actually landings... She WILL be a full fledged pilot in no time... Now can we get her to wash that plane again?

Kim you did great, you are starting off way ahead of many student pilots that have NO flight time and knowledge of the instruments. You know what the instruments are telling you and that's a Giant step to learn. GO FOR IT !

Thanks for memories of flying the plane, Kim. I'm 81 and learned to fly our Cesn 172 in my 20's. I love the patience a the applaudes the "Baron" constantly gives you. There is no medicine that is better than that. Keep up the good work, Kim. You'll make.

All I can say is HOLY S**T ... The Baron has the civilian equivalent of the Goodyear Pliocell fuel bladders. You are very lucky that the fuel cell didn't crack clear through (maybe it was a seeping gasket but... ???). It's vital to keep FULL fuel in those tanks when storing the aircraft, especially in hot/dry weather (desert, SoCal, etc). I was flying a BE-65 Queen Air N154F out of Denver (not my aircraft). We got the to executive parking and discovered a 50 foot LAKE of fuel under it! The owner fixed just that fuel cell only (stupid!!!) and we flew it home (brave). A year later my friend Andy Taylor died in a crash where the fuel cell in another Queen Air cracked, fuel ran down into the augmenter tubes, and turned the engine into a torch. The wing burned off. Everyone died. The Baron has that same fuel cell technology in it. have

Good one Kim. 2:04 (and some subsequent calls referring to runways) “...ready to taxi to four...” I would recommend Always use the word “Runway” before the runway number. I think all of ATC in this great video included it 100%. I realize there are some times we leave off some information, such as when ATC has acknowledged our call sign in full then from that point on usually just the last half of the call sign is used, or, the full Ground Freq is seldom used. If you were taxiing to runway 24, and you left off the word runway, it would sound too much like what you said for taxiing to 4. I realize there’s probably no R24 there, but I think you catch my drift. Keep up the learning!

When I left an Associates program in electrical engineering in 1979, I went to work for Stevens Beechcraft at GSP. I did avionics installs and repair so I had an opportunity to do test flights after work to get a little OT. Most of the guys wanted to go home, by I rarely turned down a chance to go for a ride. I must have flown in 50 Barons of different configs and we also did a lot of KingAir 200s. Great times, and a cool job, but the industry was flooded with recent Vietnam vets, so the pay was not great. I went back to college and got a 4-year degree, entered the infant IT field and have recently retired after a rewarding career, but the Beechcraft job was by far the most exciting. This video brought back a lot of memories.

Been interesting watching her come along. Its also evident that you have one heck of a lot of experience. Two "unrelated" comments. Her Triumph t-shirt reminded me of a BSA chopper I had in the early 70's. Also, I am amazed and a bit awed at the instrumentation available nowadays. I mentioned on your Facebook page that I was learning to fly years, ok - how about decades, ago. Instruments? We had a compass, fuel gage, altimeter, what ya call that thing that shows wing trim(?), and I think that was about it. No radio, no radar, nada. It had a stick and pedals. You flew by the seat of your pants. It was an ex-military L-19 observation plane. Not two weeks after I stopped lessons one of the wings fell off during landing. Oh the days.

Great job Kim. Re the leak, may just be the bottom access point. With time & age sometimes the gasket seal will shrink to the point that the bolts (though safety wired) feel slightly loose. Can allow seepage. Just open up the cover plate, cut the safety wire off. Gently tighten the bolts all the way around...a '2 finger tighten' my A&P calls it. Then clean off all the blue stain & re-safety wire. Fly it a few days...or let fuel sit in the tank (more fun to fly it) & recheck for leaks. Ask me how I know... : )

Kim, about the sunglasses you spoke about. Brown lenses are a high contrast lens. It makes makes lighter colours bolder, dark colours are neutralized. Be careful with brown when it comes to the colour change that brown can cause. Some people get stop light confusion with brown that some people find yellow and red look a lot alike. but it does absorbe more UV light. Grey lens change don't change colours and make everything darker evenly. Hope that helps

By those panels it looks like the outbd wing and if so there are some vent lines out there that can leak from time to time from the clamps coming loose, we had a fleet of Bonanza's and Baron's, we worked with Beechcraft and the recommend that all fuel lines including inter- connects be double clamped. When I worked a Beechcraft in Fresno, Ca, we had a customers 58 Baron right wing main fuel tank interconnect start leak with no sign, he started one day and the eng back fired and it blew the wing up fat with no fire that God!! But we had to replace the whole wing.

Get her enrolled in an online ground school and get the written out of the way, another stumbling block for new pilots. Flying is the easy part.
