This week on St. Michael's Hill I have a go at weathering my Fuel Point from Knightwing Kits. The last time this was seen on my channel was in May when I put it together and left it primed. This time I take the painted kit and have a real go at weathering it - and I'm pleased with the results. Achieved by using washes, dry brushing and some Rust-it!

Thanks very much Paul. It really is amazing what some watered down paint and powders can do!

Love the fuel point! You have a great photo as your reference and also in colour. That's the one big issue i have is due to the year modelling, images are not common but alot are also not in colour! I've not used the rust it products before but they have my interest as a few people seam to be using them and they give a great result. The end result of this fuel point looks and feels spot on. I can imagine walking on the concrete and tripping over a gap and can hear the crunch noise as I walk over dirt and grime. Love it, Clint

Yeah - I'm quite lucky that I got that picture. It's literally the only one I can find of pretty much any fuel point. So it's quite lucky really that it fits in my era.

Yeah - I think with weathering it's good to try and thinking HOW these marks were made in real life. I'm pleased with the results

I loved this video, the weathering is so realistic, turning a plasticy kit into something i'd happily have on my layout. I've already subbed to chris' channel, great stuff and I also model a similar era to yourself and chris, well I range from BR blue to the era your in, I am looking at flask depots for a future layout as I have a DRS 37 and flasks.

Thanks Alex! Glad you like the look of the final result. I saw your flasks that you picked up !! They're going to look the part behind the 37s

@@stmichaelshill7421 Thanks, it'll be the new year before I make any solid plans for that layout.

No rush mate - take your time and make sure it's all planned out properly. You'll only regret it otherwise!

@@stmichaelshill7421 Thats what i'm doing, made the mistake of rushing into things and now I'm thinning out my stock to make way for what I really want to do. The idea is to exhibit the new one, and still keep Randal Docks at home.

Hi Richard -That looks really good and I just bought the same kit but I will just have one storage tank. Can I ask what paint you used before the weathering and also did you use primer ? Cheers Kev
@stmichaelshill7421
@stmichaelshill7421 4 года назад
Hi Kev. I used a halfords grey primer which was the base coat. Then I just used washes and cheap acrylic paints to build up the colours. Can't wait to see your kit when it's done!

Thanks Richard - The kit building is a little while off as I am at the moment battling the wiring which is causing me a few headaches ( See latest video ) !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Cheers Kev
