The joys of classics eh. I took the wife to a pre surgery appointment and whilst waiting in the car park with the engine off, i heard a loud pop a just seen steam poring out of all the panel gaps. Luckily i had a spare hose in the loft at home about 15 miles away. Making memories is what its all about. Lol
I remember breaking down in my 20iGLS back in the day. Happened at same stretch of road a few times. Car would start after it sat for a bit. Turned out there was pool of water in the spare wheel well and when I drove up that hill the water sloshed back and shorted the fuel pump cut off. 😂.
Hi Adam, I'm a bit confused because if the old wiring is failing, why have you used that to trigger the relay on the new loom, if it fails you are still going to lose the fuel pump? The better fix would be to connect the trigger for the new relay and loom directly to the old fuel pump supply at the engine end of the car to eliminate going to the back of the car and then to the front for no reason. Hope that makes sense, love the videos by the way, really enjoy watching your channel!
The issue doing that is you bypass the factory fuel pump cut which is in the boot and that voids insurance as you have removed a type approved safety device to prevent fire. Using the old loom as a trigger removes all the load from the circuit and in that instance they very rarely have any issues as it’s the heat from the current draw that causes the issues with the standard relay.
To be honest Adam I find 12.7v that you are measuring at the pump a little low as it is directly wired from the battery. When the engine is running like in your movie you should measure about 14v at the battery. So when 'only' getting 12.7v at the fuel pump there is a significant loss. Just my thoughts.
James at Auto dynamics, when he worked at MSD told me you need 13.5 volts at pin 20 at ecu with lights on at full boost above 4k revs. So allow for minimum losses at fuel pump. 12.7 is too low, with injectors at full chat that will drop quite a bit I think.
Ahahah brings back memories working on my wife's and father in laws rally car boogie up a harness back on the 90s on the side of a stage.. good times. Good work Adam. Biggest fuel fail in a Sierra mk2 was fitting a ford BA Falcon XR6 one and getting back in car (as they are in tank) only to find the pins on the harness are swapped but they plug together.... whoops.😂😂😂😂
Result 👍👍 must admit I always find the AA excellent in working out whats wrong, and getting you home : My earth strap went , somewhere between the car & engine, the AA chap diagnosed it, got me home with a battery lead jump lead, followed me home, and told me how to fit it premamently.
That’s where I fitted my fuse holders for my uprated cooling and fuel pump looms , I use my 3 door in the rain and the fuses take on water Adam , check them out next time you wash the car pal

When you first go to start a cossie the fuel pump doesnt prime until cranking mate , it only primes after it has been started the first time , so you didnt do anything wrong , great job btw

My sister ex was cloth brand new he had a 2000 stereo with amps fitted he had a rs turbo mk1 before it did 80 in second I was impressed back then 1987 😅 my mini still have him down the lanes though the police chased me for 4 Miles before they caught me 🤣😅 my old man was angry when I woke him at 12 at night to explain the police lecture 🤣🤣 the one copper said it ain't a race track .... it was 🤣🤣🤣🤣

Isnt it still prone to failure due to it being triggered off the old loom still? I thought the whole idea of a new fuel pump loom was to replace the old loom, not still use it...Genuine question 👍 love the videos nonetheless and those wheels look mega on the saph
Always remove the black wire/ earth strap from the battery 1st. If you remove the red/ live from the battery 1st you risk earthing the spanner on the car body and we all know how much you fear burning it down. And lead acid batteries give off hydrogen gas. Fella😂

3 year battery? Get that swapped for a yuasa battery mate. Honestly they are rubbish. Tell em its faulty and you want to upgrade. No worries 👍 Especially in cold weather they are sheit mate honestly
Sapphire no more than 25k for a minter and 3 door 40k. They don’t sell very well as watched them for about 10 year on eBay and the same cars just circle around and struggle to sell. I’ve seen £5 notes sell for thousands but they don’t all sell for that…you get my drift.
