A complete procedure for the install of a new fuel sending unit on a stock 1996 Impala SS. Video shows step-by-step detailed instructions on how to remove/install the fuel tank, sending unit, fuel pump & fuel tank heat shields plus tools to use and other install tips. If your fuel gauge is not working on your mid-1990s caprice/impala, this video will help you greatly!
TIP!!! - Just be sure to have a near empty fuel tank when doing this procedure, otherwise the bulk weight of the tank will increase the difficulty of the tanks removal/install.

Great video! I have a 94 and its not holding fuel pressure with the key on engine off. It drops to 0psi in seconds. New fuel pump and fuel pressure regualtor and its the same thing. It runs great but you have to cycle the key a couple of times. I belive the only thing left is the flex pipe between the pump and sending unit.

@@alexjrtony350 do you have a factory fuel pump? I have a Racetronix fuel pump and it doesn’t have the check valve built in to maintain the fuel pressure after it builds it up. So I have to turn my key twice before startup. I may switch to a Walbro pump.

@@1mpalaman Yea it's a factory style pump from ACDelco. I thought the check valve went out in the old one but apparently not. It was very noisy compared to the quiet one it has now.

@@alexjrtony350 unless your leaking fuel, I doubt it is a fuel line. However, could be possible that one of your injectors is stuck open. Might want to take the fuel rail off the intake, with injectors attached, and turn the key to prime the pump and see if all injectors stop squirting at the same time. Another issue is a possible split in the fuel delivery line from the pump to the hardline on the fuel sending unit. I’m referring to the accordion flexible hose that goes from the pump to the bottom of the sending unit.

@@1mpalaman I'm leaning towards that flexible line in the tank. If it was a leaking injector or multiple wouldn't it run rich and be down on power? Exhaust smells clean too.

@@alexjrtony350 have you checked the fuel pressure while the vehicle is running? What is the pressure at prime before it drops?

at 7:30 what is the 6 bolts called or what size are they, i lost a few after removing my fuel pump

The nuts? I can tell you this weekend, I have a leak in my fuel sending unit that I need to address. I can get the size for you when I'm working on that project.

@@caleb5850 the nuts are M6x1. They are also locking nuts.
