This video will show you how to drop the fuel tank to replace the fuel pump assembly on a 2005 Nissan Xterra. Rather than just replace the pump, the pump with the pump's assembly was replaced. The assembly consists of the pressure regulator, sending Unit, float, reservoir, strainer and tank seal. If your car's engine is still running and you are performing this procedure as preventative maintenance, drive the car till the fuel tank is near empty; otherwise, you may want to pump as much fuel out of the tank via the tank's filler hose port. Every gallon of gasoline constitutes seven (7) pounds of weight. Since the tank is plastic, it is relatively light. But with say 10 gallons of fuel, the weight may be 80 lbs. I drop the tank with using a wood board supported by a hydraulic jack. I then remove the pump assembly and pump out all the fuel out of the tank with a battery powered electric pump.
