I rented my first apartment in 1988, a studio on Heath Avenue. I remember going into Fuhrman's and buying things for my new place---in fact, I still have the coasters I purchased. What I truly remember was how nice everyone was. When the women who worked there found out that I was a new bachelor on my own, they made me coffee and we had a nice chat about my future plans. Thank you for sharing this!

There was also another department store closer to the Deegan overpass and Albany Cres that had a Dollar bill as a macot... Did that take over for this store? I lived on Heath since around 86, but can't recall.

I came from Marble Hill and I know my Mother shopped in Fuhrman's in the 1950's and 1960's. Thank You So Much For Your Service To The West 231st Community.

What happy memories this brings back! I think most every gift I ever bought back in the 50's came from Fuhrman's. I still have a pin that I had given to my grandmother. It looks like new and my grandchildren love it.

My mother did not have a car so we would walk down 231st from Johnson Ave and do all our clothes shopping there. Great store. I wish these family run dept. stores still existed.

Loved this wonderful store when I lived in Washington Heights in the 1980s. We would walk north to Fuhrman's for the great selection and personal service. They just don't make stores like this any more. Thanks so much for posting this video nostalgia -- a lovely memento.

As kids (10-13)We would work during xmas season w/ Leo two blocks south on Broadway (before Goodies Hamburgers) for a couple of weeks selling and delivering xmas trees for tips. Then I'd buy my Mom a real nice xmas gift at Fuhrmans, maybe a sweater or something. Nicely boxed. It was big deal for an 11 year old. She loved getting it.

I use to get my school clothes at Fuhrman's for St. Johns and I can remember buying as a small child my mother some little porcelain dogs for Christmas in the housewares department.

Awesome. It was a big deal for me to shop there on my own as a young teen. So cool the store had 2 floors. My mom was manager of Washington Federal S&L on the other side of 231st and shopped there often! What year was this film made? Update in family? Regards
