NOTE: This lens is f/1.4 and not f/1.2. You are directly witnessing one of a few mistakes that were made when doing too many things at once (multitasking). Then, they get published to the world, and YT doesn't allow us to edit our videos. Kids, do ONE thing at a time always (except maybe chew gum and walk, as that seems fairly safe), especially when you get to be my age creating multiple videos each week. So, to clarify, this prime lens has an aperture range from f/1.4 to f/16. And also to clarify, I'm going back to single task/single focus workflow from now on!!! 😳
Pretty sure you also swapped the labels in your minimum focus distance comparison. The 16mm images should appear closer, not farther, due to the shorter working distance?
“Show me a person who doesn’t make mistakes and i’ll show you a person who doesn’t do anything.” !!! ;-) It is happening to each of us...that's the limitation of just being a human! ! ;-) Your videos are always excellent
Yes! I really love the 16mm...but F2.8! Smaller size, smaller price, wider 16mm than the 1.4 16mm. I don't know why, but my 2.8 has a wider field of view than the one of 1.4. Weird!!! Anyway, if you don't want to spend to much on the F1.4 16mm the 2.8 16mm is a great option!!! BTW...love your channel! P? This is my first comment on your channel!
I own and love this lens. It’s my go to street photography lens, specially if I know there will be crowds. Set the lens to F8, hyperfocal distance is just over 5ft, just walk and shoot
Fuji 35 f1.4, their first release is the magic lens I go to time and time again. The 50mm equiv focal length and what ever voodoo magic sauce they put in this old lens is pure joy to use.
XF 23mm f/1.4 R LM WR For outdoor It is crazy fast focusing to catch moving children. For indoor it is bright and enough wide angle to not to press against walls. And also has so small minimum focusing distance.
Always entertaining, always informative - heck, even the advertising is made with a twist a humor! One of my favorite channels - even though I’m still struggling to learn photography as an early beginner (with my standard stock 15-45mm lens).
@pal2tech Great video, i have the 16mm and it is one of my favorites. Just one note, the 16mm is 1.4 not 1.2 as you say and wright in the description. And i think at 3:30 the text should be reversed or am I wrong?
We can see 1.4, we can check in fuji site that it is 1.4 and you started your review saying 16 to 1.4. You have said 1.2 only once. I don't know are are sticking onto that point when there are many reference in your video about 1.4. You are my all time favorite fuji reviewer. All the best Pal bhai (bhai/v-a-i means brother in India).
On Fuji X, my 16mm F1.4 is my favourite prime. It's the night vision lens when the light fades. My 16-55 is my favorite zoom on Fuji. It's my "covers 95% of tasks".
This is the most reviewed Fuji lens ever!! I sold mine for the new 18mm 1.4 and have no regrets as the new 18mm is a more versatile focal length for photography
Very informative. I cant go the $1000 dollars in my budget but I did get the 16mm fuji 2.8 and have found its rendering very good. I just want to say part one on flesh was great and so helpful . Awaiting next episode of Flash!
I got an unused copy for 450 on eBay. I also got a brand new copy of the 56 f1.2 for less than a 1/3 of the retail price from Amazon Warehouse. It just had a scruffy box, that’s all. There are plenty of bargains to be had if you shop around.
Back when I photographed dance floor events, the 16 was my main lens due to the MFD since I could bump elbows with the dancers and get some great shots. My main lens on my X-T4 is the 80 and on my 830nm infrared converted X-T3 my favorite Fujifilm prime to use is the 14.
I do not own a lot of primes, so my go to lens at the moment is the Fujinon 16-80mm f/4. Owning the Viltrox 13mm f/1.4 I do not think I can justify buying the 16mm 1.2 also.
Thanks 4 the recommendation! I’ve got the 14mm f2.8 for landscapes and I love it too. There’s a question I have lately… When, When!! are they (Fujifilm) going to launch a fast and really focused lens on Astrophoto? A 12mm f2 would be fair enough!! Good job! Let’s keep 💪
While I know this video is getting a little older, I wanted to thank you. I just ordered one to pair with my X-H1 with the expectation of doing some product photography in addition to car interiors at the drift track. The WR is a HUGE factor for me as drifting kicks up a lot of dust and tire smoke while I also stay on track when it is raining (I know never optimal, but I like knowing it will live). I sold off my 100-400mm so that I would force myself to experiment with more lenses as I was getting into a rut at the track of having the same photos all of the time, each event. Now I'm down to the Fuji 35mm f2, Ttartisan 50mm f1.2, Rokinon 12mm (which is honestly my least favorite fixed focal lens I have ever owned), and as of 15 minute ago, the 16mm f1.4
@ 3:01 "almost bonking your subject" haha the British English 'Bonking' has a very personal and intimate meaning. It is a great lens. I like the square LH-X16 (£55 over here) lens hood, mine came with the petal-type hood.
I love(ed) this lens!!!! …until the new 18mm f1.4 tempted me and stole my heart. ❤️ The 16 still holds a special place in my heart, it just doesn’t get the love these days. The nearer 18mm is my one lens.
Love this lens, I use it for wildlife/macro photography in combination with a flash. Amazing video giving it all the justice it needs! I have the same issue with the manual/auto focus 😂
That is my current favorite lens. So versatile, and the clutch is great, I wish the new lenses kept it. But I know it's not a popular opinion. Awesome video!
I loved the 16mm f1.4 and totally understand the hype but I sold mine because the focal length was not my cup of tea. My joy is the lightweight and very versatile 18mm f2.
I think you got somewhat confused at 3:30 : I imagine you are talking about centimeters and not millimeters of minimum focus distance (not big deal, it's clear given the context) but are the images reversed? Even if the 16mm is wider I would guess that it took the images with greater magnification(?)
You are directly witnessing one of a few mistakes that were made when doing too many things at once (multitasking). Then, they get published to the world, and YT doesn't allow us to edit our videos. So, to clarify, I'm going back to single task/single focus workflow from now on!!! 😳
Good point...had the 16 1.4...didnt work for me....then I tried the 23 1.4 and I love it....even upgraded to the LM Version....a whole new World...Now I have for events the 23 1.4 and the 56 1.2 and this is all I need. Thanks for the Point of this Video....always to remember when watching reviews.
For me it's the 16-55. That was the lens first purchased with my X-T4 and it's just brilliant. It does everything I could ever need and it's almost always with me. That lens is the reason why I never connected with the 16mm prime even after renting it for a week.
My Fuji 16mm (24eq) f1.4 is perfect for low light events, such as family lunches (Xmas,…). Image quality is amazing and so fun when used in full manual. For street photography, i barely use it (when amazing sunrises and golden hour), and prefer less wide primes: Fuji 33mm(50eq) f1.4 or the pancake 27mm (40eq) f2.8. Fuji 10-24mm WR f4 is more versatile, especially when travelling abroad (along with the 16-55mm & 50-140mm & a fast prime).
I love your enthusiasm. I would like to have a fast 16mm but Christopher Frost found the performance of this lens to be very poor, especially for its price.
Thanks for all the details on why to use this lens, Chris! I have the 16mm lens but never use it. My primary lens is the 80mm macro because I enjoy still life, macros, and minimalism. I do have a Leica Q2 with a 28mm lens which is close to the 16mm (Leica is full-frame). I struggle with the Leica, though. I am so spoiled with the Fuji xt4 with its articulating LCD screen; Leica doesn't have many added features, and the screen doesn't tilt. Maybe I will trade in for another Fuji. Where would you go from an XT4?
I have the 80 and the 16mm. Great lenses. I use the 16 more because I shoot landscapes with prominent foreground and do a bit less macro. I'm considering whether to get the 16-55 mm vs another prime at like 23mm to round out my collection. Regarding cameras, I have my eye on the xh2 coming later this year for the 40mp sensor.
i have the viltrox 13 1.4 and love it .... but i still keep looking at this lens as a must have lens... what i love about photography is the user experience... and this one oozes fun.....
3:05 Those are bees 😁 I wish I could justify buying this lens! I have a similar type lens on my Sony APS-C camera - it’s Sigma 16mm/f1.4 - it’s sharp, it’s awesome and similar MINIMUM focusing distance like on Fujinon.
I think the Viltrox 13mm f/1.2 is my 2nd best lens to date. I’d still love to get the Fujinon 16mm f/1.4 some day! Ironically and unfortunately it’s about the only Fujinon lens I don’t own…
Hello, been following your channel for a while now and love it. Just wondering if a video regarding the lenses that Fuji seems not to recommend for their new Xtrans V is in your "to do"? I used to have this lens with an XT20 but since now I am getting the XT5, I wonder if it will resolve the 40M pixels sensor or not?
I did not use so much due to its size attached to my x-t30 and x-e4. Now that I sold the x-t30 for the x-t3 I am using it much more, even not being a videomaker but using it only for stills.
I'm trying to decide 16/1.4 vs. 18/1.4 right now, any thoughts? I do love the minimum focus distance on the 16 but the 18 isn't far behind. My main use cases would be landscape, street, and night/indoor shooting. Thanks!
@@joeyu6664 thanksk for the reply! I should've mentioned that I already have a 12mm Touit and Fufi 23 f2, and for landscape I'm looking to fill the gap between the two.
I have plenty of Fuji lens. Or third parties. 8 mm fisheye Samy 12 mm Zeiss Touit 16 mm f2.8 16 mm f1.4 23 mm f2 35 mm f2 56 mm f1.2 90 mm f2 16-55 mm f2.8 18-55 mm kit 55-200 mm 50-140 mm f2.8 My favorite lens: 55-200mm and 35 mm f2
What is my go-to, most used lens? I don't really know. Right now the Laowa 65mm macro hardly leaves my X-H1 and the Fuji 150-600mm hardly leaves my X-T3. While out hiking recently, the best pair of lenses to carry around, for me, where 10-24mm and 70-300mm if I could only bring 2 lenses. Different circumstances require different lenses...
I love your videos. I also love this lens. I am wondering if you can comment on why the XF 16mm/f1.4 is not listed as one of the lenses recommended for use with the new 40.2MP senser (in the XH2 and the X-T5). Have you tested it at all? Does it make sense to you that this gorgeous lens does not have the adequate resolving power for the new hi-res sensor?
Hi Chris, how are you doing? Will you be reviewing the 17-70 Tamron lens? I know there are other reviews... But I would love to hear your opinion on this lens.
i bought 16mmf1.2 is my sec lens the first one was the kit lens 18-55 mmf2.8-4 but i give ithe to my daughter and get me 16-55mm f2.8 as for my 16mm f1.2 is very strong len > i drop it once about waist high on to a concrete road and had it check by buy the fuji people at the lab they say there is nothing wrong >> but the hood (same as yours) had a a scratch but i am still very happy with it
Hey guy's I usually never comment on RU-vid but I figured might as well, first off I really love this channel its been helping me tons in my photography, and second I would like to know what would you guys choose, I'm on a budget and I can only get 1 of the following cameras XE4 or XT 30MKII any recommendations guys?
