that 50mm f2 is probably one of fuji's best lenses, so underrated as well as most people get caught up with the wider aperture variants, which imo, are too bulky for anything other than studio work.
Always hated the rain but now with photography I’m actually inspired to go out and shoot in a city that has a lot of lights. Reminded me of that rainy night photo vlog in Tokyo. Thanks for sharing 🍻
If you can't beat it, join it! That Tokyo night vlog is one of my most memorable for sure. That whole 2 month period in particular was just so much fun!
Great vlog! I love the “neon noir” vibe- Blade Runner/Altered Carbon/Cyberpunk vibes for sure! I’m always so nervous with my X-T3 in the rain or snow- I sometimes have to remind myself that it IS weather sealed 😂
Thanks for the "rainy insights". And the shoutout to the 50mm f2. Which I like very much myself because (my style) it compresses the perspective and goes for the details and, as you pointed out, flattens the viewing angle in the distance. It's a bit against the trend in street photography. But that's what variety in the lens bag and in personal styles is for.
Awesome video, always loved shooting in night after the rain. By the way, I'm moving to London soon and was wondering is it generally safe to shoot street photography in London due to the crime rates? Or is there certain zones that I'll need to avoid while taking photos alone. Cheers.
Cheers! I think any city can have dangerous times, but I'd say it's usually circumstantial rather than definite no-go zones, especially within central London. Other areas and suburbs further out could give you a different feeling, but use your best judgement and always have contact with your items/bags to give you confidence. In the 12 years I've done this in London, I've never had any issues, but everyday I'm out, there are always some people I'm paying closer attention to than others. Learning to use the viewfinder with both eyes open is also a big help to keep awareness up!
Central London is safe but, no matter where you go 'things' can happen. Be street savvy, carry only what you need and try not to look like someone who has a lot of expensive camera gear.
I have the XF50 f/2 but I don’t like the lens hood that came with it, I’m looking for the round and vented one like the one you’re using, would you please tell me who makes it. Thank you.
Love this video, I have viewed a coupl previously but now i am subscribed. I know how rain can change a scene. One of my favourite photographs was taken in Convent garden mid/late 80's from in front of the church looking up to the pub but also takin in the lower level. Pentax MX f2.
Hi Joe I have just subscribed to your channel after seeing you on Tom Heaton's vlog. I've just swapped my Fuji 56mm f1.2 for the 50mm f2 and wow what a lens. It's so sharp and the AF is fast. Looking forward to testing it on the street.
Thanks for this Joe! Your content has inspired me to get out into the street more and just today I used my lunch break to take a walk around Great Malvern.
Excellent! For years I used to use my lunch breaks as my main "creative me" time. Sometimes I look back and think I got more done in an hour than I do now in a few hours...
If I start wiping the EVF and lens every time I want to take a shot, I’d say it’s probably a good time to get the umbrella out. That being said, I think fine rain and condensation has been the secret killer for me in the past.
Brilliant - have fun! I always get stopped by security when walking around there with my camera. I think it's the big furry mic mostly that grabs attention. Hopefully you'll be fine!
I like your images and your vlogs... but I´m often having trouble with this kind of "pitch-shifting" music, that reminds me of broken taperecorders... yes, I´m that old ;o)) ... Cheers
Hi Joe, video as always mate, I was thinking it would be great if you could share your Exif data/what settings are used in these night shots. I was there in Covent Garden and my pictures were soo high in noise - argh. Liking the silver XT-4! #X-PRO-2
Do you have a video on, or can you share how you set up your camera settings with this lens regarding the auto focus? I just got the X-T5 and am struggling to get the auto focus right and not blurry.
It’s really nice to see people to go out in down in the rain, just minding they’re own business and doing stuff while you and your friend taking pictures. Very Cool video 😎😎🔥🔥☕️☕️
Haha so true! When looking back at the footage, I realised just how many people don't carry umbrellas with them. Considering how much it rains, we're really bad at remembering to carry one.
Fantastic video as always, Joe. The night photos also came out nice. How high would you usually push the ISO with XT-4 during night time on the streets?
Cheers! I'm frequently at iso3200, but sometimes 6400 and even 12800 in the darkest environments. I'd say I mostly float around 1250 though with retail signage helping light things up. I've got pretty steady hands, so I can often get away with a much slower shutter speed handheld and lower iso, so long as there isn't anything moving in the frame.
@@joeallam Hi Joe, yes, interesting, good call on trying a different browser - its fine on Microsoft Edge, but on my Chrome browser its like an out-of-registration 4-colour print! Your lips have a line of blue and you have blue eye-liner! At the top of the frame are green and magenta bars. I've tried reloading the video and restarting Chrome but its still there. V odd!
