The Fujifilm X-S10 was one of my favorite cameras ever! I have a fondness for that camera so when Fujifilm loaned me the Fujifilm X-s20 for review, I was wondering whether or not I would feel the same about this camera because almost every feature has been improved! X-S10 user here since the launch, upgraded to X-S20 about a month ago. Was too in doubt if it is worth the extra money before getting it. Oh, yes, It is. In troves. First, as you mentioned: battery life. I use my Fuji cameras full time in Boost mode, and the X-S10 had terrible battery life in that scenario - like, the last time I used it were around 50 stills, 3 4k24p movies around 10 minutes each...and the battery was gone. Already made a test (to overheat the camera) filming 6.2k open gate 10bit-4:2:2 and the camera stopped only when the 128gb card was full, 1h30mins of footage, and the battery was on 50% charge. Amazing. (the camera got kinda hot, the red warning appeared, but did not stopped - temperature around 23o Celsius indoor). Second: AF. Much, much better. Specially with the Sigma 18-50 f/2.8, that was kinda glued to the camera. 90% keepers on stills, and very good performance in video (better than the 18-55 kit, a good video lens). Not Sony level, but miles better than the X-S10, and good enough for my use. In fact, saw a lot of reviews of the A7CII with people recording the screen interface, and the behaviour is now very similar, Sony still better but was expecting that the X-S20 was much behind that it looks like now. Of course, this is very lens dependent (the Sigma have very fast AF, like my Nocticrons). The camera is more responsive, less shutter lag, every thing works a little better. The new grip texture is much better, more rubberized. Love the red box when recording movies, and that now the "3d" electronic level could be on full time. I liked my X-S10, but the X-S20 is better in all aspects, some a little, some much better. In the sum of them all, does not feels like an upgrade - is a totally different camera. Very, VERY satisfied. (if just Fuji could do a "rangefinder" version of it...)

Would you say the X-S10 is still worth getting for a first Fujifilm camera? I can find one used where i live for half the price of an X-S20, and it comes with 4 batteries. I dont think i will be doing any long videos for filming, at most just some short clips here and there if its in 4k.

@@leonthesleepy Yes, it is - specially if it is the first Fujiilm. Always better to test a new system not spending too much before comitting to buy lenses, etc. I did it with a X-T20 when I was a m43 user - liked the results and then bought a X-S10. If you are a primarely stills user, don't shoot a lot of moving subjects, and if you shoot people generally is a portrait of a single person, the X-S20 will bring you very few advantages. In my use cases - shooting a 5 year runnning daughter, or shooting concerts with the singer far away, and doing almost 40% video, the X-S20 advantage is huge. The uses cases that each one have are maybe the most important factor to evaluate a camera. Before my daughter, when I shoot basically only travel landscapes, concerts, and environments, even the m43 cameras with CDAF were very good - never user C-AF or burst shooting.

Yes I'm planning to mainly use it for travel photography, maybe some casual videos but nothing heavy at all, and probably no fast moving subjects. Pretty much the main reason i wanted the X-S20 was the MUCH better battery life, and ofc its always nice to have better AF. But since I can essentially pick up a used X-S10 set for a decent price, its hard to say no to that haha. I was planning on getting the Sigma 18-50 f/2.8 too once I've saved up enough, will probably play around with the TTartisan 27mm first.

I replaced my XT3 with this camera and am pleasantly surprised with its performance. I'm missing buttons, yes, and it has a very small eyepiece, too.... But it really is an amazing camera with much better AF than what I had previously.

Is there a quicker way to change the iso other than pressing the button and then changing it? Right now on my XT3 I have my front command dial to change ISO. Can you do that with the X-S20?

Question for ya , im a new fuji shooter, mostly photography, a little video…would you recommend the xs20 or xt5 for a sole camera for everyday and travel photog with some more serious landscapes here and there? Dont really care too much about the extra MP. Appreciate it!

Great review man, sadly you are not gonna keep the xs20. :/ One question when you are working with 10bit files, how do you actually edit them? I mean when i import my H265 files to my pc and later in premiere it doesnt play back and they are too hard to edit..

It could be your computer? With my M1 Max laptop it’s fine to edit on. You may need to work with proxies.

Did I understand you correctly that the ibis is better on this than the XH2S? I’ve had it on my shelf for a month but haven’t used it much yet haha so haven’t been able to compare it yet. It would make sense considering it isn’t a stacked sensor so maybe easier to stabilize?

how bad is the missed weather sealing? Rain and water splashes can be avoided but what about dust? Is the camera prone to dust

I haven’t had it long enough nor been in that type of situation to tell you. I had the xs10 for a couple of years and never had any issues.

Currently my dilemma is, as a landscape photographer, take the x-s20 or the sony A7c2, which have a similar weight(very important criteria for me, since I do a lot of hard hikes). The A7C2 is definitely more expensive, but you get those nice blur more easily.

Great vid. I can say though that the AF is quite behind other brands, especially Sony. That is an issues when shooting fast moving subjects, shooting in dark environment or when filming. Everytime the subject moves bach and forth, the camera refocuses and hunts back and forth to find the new position of the subject. It looks so bad and sometimes the clips are unusable. Its really bad especially because its a video centric camera. I feel like this camera its not meant to be used profesionally for video, eveb though you can but its not reliable. I use my xs-10 and recentely I came bach to the old Sony a7 iii. The AF in video is still waaaay better. The focus pull, the smooth refocus is so freaking awesome. Its like having somebody manually focusing for you behind the scene. That is a huuuge deal in videography. It works like magic.

@@Iamtongue all new sony cameras have almost the same AF. I was saying the even the old sony a7 iii has a killer autofocus ( a camera from 2018). I wish the fuji would be a bit better ....you know...😂. To trust the camera to focus for you so you can focus on framing , movement, exp, etc

look into third party manual lenses... they are more around your budget. and they have some character to their images...

Nice review Tongue. I bought this camera this week, it just make too much sense not to. It will be my backup camera to my XH2S, replacing my XT30II. The battery, the grip, the PASM, the video, the LCD, the AF... now I feel like I really have a camera that can stand along side the XH2S in competency with only WR and dual slots being the major gripe. It's early days, my challenges seem to be the following; - lack of buttons. I will have to get creative here, the lack of D-pad is a tad sad, I guess I will have to use the swipe screen touch functionality. - the battery door feels flimsy, which is a shame because the SD Card is houses within this domain and there is no battery grip so swapping out batteries on a wedding or long event is likely. I guess I have to be careful or limit the amount of times I access it, charging and transferring files via the USB cable vs physically accessing perhaps. - the EVF, it feels worse than the XT30II? I dunno... maybe I was having a bad eyesight day but it felt like I could not tune the diopter at all without a little haze or fuzz coming from the info display stuff... Perhaps there is an aftermarket eye cup that might also help provide a better overall EVF experience? Thanks again.

I'm leaning more and more to Fuji. If only Fuji had full frame I would be a Fuji fanboy without a doubt Canon has great entry level and mid level cameras, but bans third party lenses. Morons. Panasonic has no official representation in my country. Nikon seems stagnated in entry and mid level, and I still have the Z50, but no way I spend $4000usd in a Z8. I would love something like the R8 from Nikon, but nothing happens. And I think nothing will happen in the $1500 - 2000usd And I don't like Sony. It's a guts thing. I simply don't like Sony.

@@Iamtongue Btw, I left fuji to go to sony because of AF issues. I own a a7iii and a7iv. I just bought the xt-30ii because I miss the fuji experience. I can say that the sony is a technically better camera but they lack any soul. They are like computers. I owned two xs-s10's before leaving fuji. I feel like the x-s20 is still more like the sony in the computer feel. The x-t30ii feels more like a film shooting experience (which I really like). I dont plan to complete leave sony but I may one day.

@@mnaz5628 bro that’s how I felt when I bought a Sony a7ii..when my xt2 died.. I had it for a day in Bali back in 2016 and realized it was lacking something. The next day I went back and bought another Fuji xt2 to continue on my Asia trip 😂😂😂. During that trip I had 1 broken xt2, a new xt2 and a new a7ii which I couldn’t return because they don’t offer refunds LOL.
