Good work Dylan. I never go anywhere without both converters, makes such a compact kit with my X100F. I find the TCL particularly useful for stitching panos. A tip for screwing them on - put the "MADE IN JAPAN" on the barrel in the 10 o'clock position to start off. Works every time.
Thanks, just got into the X100 series with a vi, which I picked up on 28 Feb 24 in black and also ordered a WCL. Your shots convinced me that I have made a good decision. Well, time will tell as I'm off to the Swiss Alps next week to try it out.
Lovely photos showing the capability range of the camera and your great skill. Loved the city shots and the mountain (Fuji by any chance?) As a Fuji newbie with an X100VI is the tele one worth it ,as the digital crop to 50mm equivalent still gets me a 20MP functionality so not far from a V? I’ve also seen shots the tele convertor with non-linear pincushion distortions. On a V I can see the resolution advantages. However, based on your comments, usage, and those lovely street and landscape shots I can see the wide angle convertor with the new sensor could give stunning results. I can also use my new 49mm circ polariser and protection filters. Does it need a lens hood too? Off on a tour of a China in two weeks so would appreciate a quick response. Thanks
I’m glad for this video. I got the X-100T with the TCL. I actually don’t use it as often as I thought I would. I’m considering the X-100V in time to come and maybe the WCL as well.
What an absolute diamond your channel is! Thanks for this Video. You did an outstanding Job with explaining the adapters and the pics are insanely beautiful. Glad I came across your channel
Awesome and informative review! I had the X100S for seven years. I used it for full-on wedding photography for two whole years before I got the TCL. The leaf shutter worked wonders for off-camera flash photography as I could use it with a cheap Yongnuo YN560-IV. It took a lot of beating with three falls, one of which was in a river along with me. I finally sold it last year as it was getting sluggish after all the abuse it took. I am still keeping the TCL as I will be buying X100V to complement my XT3 system.
Since the last update for the X100V which allows us to shoot RAW in crop mode, I'm not considering buying the TCL anymore, the slight lower resolution works fine for me. But I own the WCL, pretty awesome piece of glass.
Thank you for this perspective. I’ve been wrestling with trading in my x100v for the new X-T50 to get a little more lens flexibility. But I then find myself looking for a pancake lens for the X-T50 and nothing rivals what’s on the 100V. So round and round I go. This WCL may be a nice bridge
I purchased the WCL 2 its very good does not protrude too much in front in fact though as you said Fuji stuff is not exactly cheap its worth for quality like the beautiful X100V which I obviously own.
Fun fact, it’s possible to glue magnets on the inside of the old converters to hack them. It’s easy to find the right place and directions to communicate if it’s the tcl or wcl automatically. I also bought the wcl of the older x70, which provides an even wider field of view, about 26mm in full frame terms. Nice channel, subscribed.
This is something I've seen done. Personally, I'd rather pay the few extra dollars and have them integrated nicely by Fujifilm. Certainly a means to an end, though!
@@DylanGoldbyPhotographer You're right if you don't already have the v.1 converters, as is my case, since I got them for my old X100T. Didn't want to replace them for the v.2 when I upgraded that for the much better X100V. However, I caught another video by Kile Johnston explaining the the way to do that and I followed it with some improvements (first provisionally a small magnet from a fridge figurine with some double sided tape) but having checked that this worked flawlessly I got some neodimium (sp?) 5x1.5mm magnets and set them in place with a drop of cianoacrylate (crazy glue). That worked like a charm. The WCL lets you access very fast the 28, 41 and 58mm equivalent FD's and the TCL does the same for 50, 72 and 100mm by placing the Digital Teleconversion feature of the F & V cameras at the top of _"My Menu", which is what I did. Another tip, get a pair of Leica style red dots and attach them to your converters for a fast screw-in maneuver; I placed mine on top aligned with the aperture mark. Saves a lot of fumbling. The thin 1.5mm magnets allow full extension of the camera lens for astounding macro shots with the TCL. Would have loved that Fuji had opted for a bayonet mount for them tho, but that's the price of retro-compatibility.
As always Dylan your videos are balanced and informative. I purchased the WCL at the same time I bought my 100V but I must be honest that if I needed a wider angle of view I tended to use my X-T3 with an appropriate lens. Your video and the accompanying photographs have encouraged me to be more proactive in using it. Thank you.
Great vid. Thank you. Curious about focussing speed with the adapters. Thinking about getting the TCL for portraits and the WCL for wider indoor work, but I already have an XT-30 and XT-10 and 35mm F2 so I could just use those and get a wider lens. I have this idea that having 'just' the X100V and a WCL and TCL will make me want to go shoot and take it on assignments and have this ease and simplicity to everything. But I think that idea might be wrong because I'd have to screw and unscrew those lenses all the time, because the TCL might feel unbalanced weight wise and because there's no way to quicky change focal lengths. I'd like Fuji to make a quick-attach/release system so you can switch lenses real fast. I'm curious if the WCL and TCL also makes you want to 'just go out and shoot' or if they feel more like tools for 'work'.
That's a good question. For me, these are still tools of play. They are a little cumbersome to get on and off, so that quick release idea sounds great to me as well. When it comes to AF, I haven't noticed a difference in speed. They don't have any moving elements, so as long as you have enough light for the X100 to focus, it shouldn't make a difference. Hope this helps.
@@DylanGoldbyPhotographer Thanks man! I found out through a review that the bokeh on the WCL isn't as much as I'd hoped, and together with experience from an assignment this weekend I think the 18mm f2 will be the right choice for me right now since I can slap that on my old X-T10 while using X100V and X-T30 for most of the shots. Thank you for getting back to me 💛
Like your photos! The WCL now lives on my X100V and with the recent update allowing use of the digital telephoto in raw+jpeg the camera now has quick access to wide, std and telephoto views with the wcl. Gotta love Fuji for their update improvements. You are right, the tcl is quite bulky...too much for me.
Good video! I pack the XT1, 16/2.8, 35/2.0, and Laowa 9/2.8 as my small kit. I might add the Laowa 65/2.8 2x macro APO for longer reach and closeups. Different camera, but the concept is similar with much more flexibility. Love my old XT1.
@@DylanGoldbyPhotographer, I bought the little Laowa because of your review. Thank you!!! It’s so much fun when I can find a good, wide composition. But when I take it out as my only lens on a walk with my impatient wife, well, that’s usually an exercise in frustrating. LOL. 16/2.8 is on my body by default. I love that little guy, too. I had the 23/2, but sold it because I prefer the 16 or the 35mm FOV much more. I’m not sure if I was clear on the Laowa 65/2.8. I don’t own it yet, but am considering the purchase. It is ridiculously sharp when used for non-macro, per what I have read and seen in reviews.
Nice video Dylan. I just bought the wcl for my x100v, thought I could replace my 16mm 1.4... I like it but it would not be reasonable to switch one for another so I kept both! XD I just have some problem to fix the distortion in post using LR....about tcl I discovered the 50mm in-camera digital conversion and I was wondering if it could compete with it?
I'm not sure about Lightroom as I use Capture One. However, there should be a way to pull in Fujifilm's corrections from the raw file. C1 doesn't do this by default, so the images are always a bit distorted when you first see them.
Great stuff Dylan, thank you. I wasn't sure about these 2 conversions but am now reassured as to their optical quality. As you said and all together, the perfect pleasure kit for getting out there and enjoying making pictures. Sold.
Hi Peter! I was in the same boat. Every extra piece of glass has to have some sort of effect. But, honestly, these two are fantastic. I've been using them for a couple of years now and haven't looked back.
The camera you used to record this video kept auto-focus hunting. It was distracting. However, it was a very informative video! I have both and I my only concern is mistakenly dropping them. 😅
Nice review as usual. I see an upload of Dylan in my feed, I click. Very useful because I'm sure that question is crossing the mind of many who own the 100V. It's true they're extremely expensive! Price of a complete nice kit. The GFX seems to be hunting especially when you put your hands close to your face (and you express yourself a lot with hands). The image seems a bit soft, and I watched it on my phone and my 27 inch 1440p, I don't know if it comes from the GFX, your compression or RU-vid's one. I would like to see more videos with in in the future for the sake of experimentation but in 4K maybe if it's easy for you to upload. Oh and outside too 😂
Thanks for the feedback! I'm sure issues with the GFX are simply down to user error. I set things the way I would for my X-T4 and it behaves quite differently, it seems. I'll have to experiment more if I plan to use it for video. To be honest, when it comes to 4K, I really have no interest in dealing with those files! haha. Outdoors, on the other hand, I'd love a little more of that. We're still required by law to wear masks in public and, in a city of 27 million people, everywhere is public. That makes it difficult to film anything on location while in Seoul. Hopefully, I'll be able to film something while I'm in the countryside next week!
@@DylanGoldbyPhotographer Can't wait to see your next video/photos if you get out next week. I suppose you couldn't use this new gfx as much as you'd want, I'm sure you're eager to play with this new tool/toy especially knowing that the output quality is way up there.
@@REMY.C. I've certainly been able to use it. A camera is a camera in the end, so I've just been doing some day to day stuff here plus a couple of corporate portraits. So far so good.
I have.. Sadly optically the wcl x70 isn’t up to the standard of the V’s IQ - I hope the x100 series converters are sharper, if you have a S/T/F you may find it tolerable but I instantly returned my x70 converter after doing testing.
Hahaha! It's a no-pressure hobby for me. Imagine having to learn your camera on a commercial set versus learn it while chatting about things you enjoy. ;)
Hello, I am waiting for my X100v to come in soon. I’ve been doing my research on it. Is there a digital zoom option within the camera? I’ve heard about it. You can digitally zoom to like 50mm and 70mm?
I've now watched a few of your videos and love the relaxed approach. I also highly rate your photos! Just one question with regards this video and the X100V: why not a Leica Q2 with its wider focal length? Is it purely down to price? I'm a Fuji user, X-T4, and love what they do and, I'm also considering the X100V yet, the draw of a Leica Q2 is ever present (even if I can't yet afford one!!).
First of all, thanks for watching! I've used the Leica Q2 and couldn't love it. It's bulky and heavy as well as being ridiculously overpriced. As with most cameras these days, the images it produces are gorgeous, but it doesn't really hold any draw for me as a photographic tool. There are people who swear by it, but I just wanted my small, quirky tool back after about 30 minutes.
@@DylanGoldbyPhotographer For the price of a new Q2 you can get a pristine M10. Voigtländer glass rivals the outrageously priced Leica glass. I found my M10 a few months after I had purchased my X100V and I like it very much (already owned film Leicas), also I already had half a dozen lenses for it so the purchase didn't send me to chapter 11. However, I find the X100V much more friendly for some uses, e.g. travel and stealth street photo. The tilting screen is a superb addition.
@@DylanGoldbyPhotographer Audio levels is the key, they should peak just before hitting 0... some people say just before -3... if you edit on Premiere, you can actually do it automatically by selecting the audio track, pressing G and there you can select the normalize max peak to -3 or whatever you want... hope i made myself clear. Cheers.
Good review, thanks. For mounting the glass, try rotating the wcl/wcl in the wrong direction, until you 'feel' a click, then turn in the correct direction...
Hi, Pete! Thanks for watching. Sure, I do that every time. The threads are just not that well made. Try a B+W filter, for example. Their use of brass makes for excellent threads.
Planing to buy WCL but worried about distortion. I have x100v and usually taking pictures me and landscape. Will I get distortion from this lens? Iphone 11 pro has wide lens but no distortion.
All lenses have some form of distortion. If you're talking about barrel distortion, your iPhone is using computational techniques to correct for it. The X100 will do the same. You can always work it out in post-production as well.
@@DylanGoldbyPhotographer Well, technically I am only sold on the idea, since i am broke :D But I am shooting film at the moment and enjoy the canon ae1 very much - especially the controls. So I seriously consider switching from SOny to Fujifilm at the end of the year.
That, I have not. I tend to absorb the accents of the people I spend the most time with (wait until my buddy from County Cork gets back... we're in all sorts of trouble!). When the Aussies are around, though, things get pretty thick... ha!
