On-screen *labels incorrectly say that it is an LM lens, it is not,* sorry about that, I forgot to delete that part. *Fujifilm X-T5 Review* - On the Right Path [ Fuji XT5 ] - bit.ly/X-T5review *My Top 10 Photography / Filmmaking Investments 2020-2023* - bit.ly/Investments2023

i know i know... because all we want is the feature of LM. hope there will be mark 3 that add LM to replace old DC motor, so we can say it loudly .. the XF 56mm F1.2 R WR LM..LoL

The focusing group moves 8 elements, which might've been the reason why they went with DC motors. 😮‍💨

Would sigma 56 1.4 or xf 33 1.4 be a better all around portrait lens, especially AF speed, sharpness and bokeh? Thanks

Great video and the old dc motors should never be used in any Fuji lenses and I have the same issue with my gf80mm lens it’s always misses the focus spot if the subject moves slightly

Nice review like always 🙂 I bought the lens back in november together with my X-T5 and for me it works well for photography. But like you said.. the AF would be way better with an linear motor. Using the XF18 or 33 1.4 and then switching to the XF56 II you feel a big difference. But image quality and all other points are really good.
@TheHybridShooter
@TheHybridShooter Год назад
Thank you! There are still plenty of use cases where the AF will be fine.

Nice review. Yeah, I was puzzled by that motor decision, too. Would you say this would argue for the Viltrox 75mm or perhaps the Sigma 56 (to stay at this focal length)?
@muttishelfer9122
@muttishelfer9122 Год назад
Or maybe the Viltrox 56mm 1,4 as it has a de-clicked aperture ring and for video you dont need the highest resolution lens.
@TheHybridShooter
@TheHybridShooter Год назад
Thank you! Viltrox AF is much better, but it is a different focal length, as you have pointed out. I haven't tested sigma yet.

yeah, viltrox 75mm pro series was quite interesting tho, but it more tele photo vocal length, and should concern about the size (the diameter & the length is so big) comparing to 56mm r wr

I'd like to submit a formal petition to Fuji to rerelease this lens with linear motors. Seems like they don't care about their loyal customer base. I've waited for years for this release only to be very disappointed. I hope it's not too late for Fuji tho to make an LM version in the foreseeable future.
@TheHybridShooter
@TheHybridShooter Год назад
That would be pointless, product that is in serial production won't change that much. LM version would probably require more significant changes than just swapping the AF motor.

An outstanding lens- except for the AF motor. For stills it may be manageable in most situation though. But for video work i definitly would choose another lens.

Fuji make the weirdest choices... Everything seems great and then a single issue brings down the whole package. After using a few lenses with and without linear motors I'm convinced the former are a must nowadays.
@SummersSnaps
@SummersSnaps 10 месяцев назад
Fuji have absolutely dropped the ball on this one, but all of their core lenses are lacking the pro touch. The Fujicron (f2's) are great, but their top tier core (23, 33 and 56) could all have been f1.2 and carrying LM as the motor. Fuji got complacent.
@sabamacx
@sabamacx Год назад
These sort of focusing motors should only be found in budget XC lenses, not the top tier XF lenses.
@TheHybridShooter
@TheHybridShooter Год назад
No, there is no valid reason to use it in budget lenses either.

LM are not automatically superior - the 18-55mm has one and in my experience it is less accurate and capable than the new 56mm WR. I used the 18-55mm for a week just to change things up and, going back to the 56mm WR, it was obvious the accuracy and hit rate was higher even with more difficult apertures like f/1.2 to deal with. Having taken hundreds of shots with this lens, I can say that the new 56 has very punchy and accurate AF. AF-C even works quite well in good light and has impressed me at times when I've had around 6 feet or more to the subject, shooting wide open. Overall it is harder to use than the newer LM WR lenses, as it does not seems as fast or track as well in all light conditions. It is pretty noisy, and not a great choice for video. But as a portrait lens, I'm not sure it needs to be. The optics are gorgeous. Though I'd always like faster AF, with this lens they'd likely have to do a major redesign, and the compact size and weight are nice to have.
@TheHybridShooter
@TheHybridShooter Год назад
LM motors are superior by definition. Are you sure that you are not mixing up the lenses? 18-55 has vastly superior AF to both old and new 56mm in every way, my experiences are exactly opposite. I am very sure that every modern lens needs to be capable to focus properly in video, especially 1st party lenses, 85mm are commonly used for video.
@matt88169
@matt88169 Год назад
@@TheHybridShooter As I said, and you said, the 56mm WR is not a great choice for video because it is not smooth and quiet. Do a video on the acquisition, tracking, and hit rate of the 18-55 and the 56mm for stills of dynamic subjects in various light conditions and I’d be glad to watch it.
@TheHybridShooter
@TheHybridShooter Год назад
@Matt I don't intend to make a review of 18-55 anytime soon, but feel free to make such video yourself, if you are interested in this topic. From my experiences, I can say that both will be 100% accurate with static subjects and 18-55 will beat 56mm for tracking by a big margin.
@MrSeppieD
@MrSeppieD Год назад
@@TheHybridShooter I wouldn't say they are superior by definition. Fact is that linear motors do not require gearing, which make them less noisy, but their minimum size also takes up more space and weight. Installing an LM in the 56 f/1.2 would have probably made the lens heavier, and closer to the weight of the 50 f/1, for which it would have lost a certain market potential. Linear motors also take up different space. They make lenses longer rather than fatter and seem generally less well suited for lenses with low f stops.
@TheHybridShooter
@TheHybridShooter Год назад
@@MrSeppieD What I meant is that their performance is superior by definition. What you wrote is theoretically correct, but there is plenty of compact portrait lenses with linear motor out there, even 3rd party manufactures such as Viltrox use much better AF motors in much smaller and lighter lenses, so that is not an acceptable excuse in 2023 IMO.
