My battery became bloated. Why did this happen? I have no idea. I don't use the battery anymore as I have spares. Its a shame because it still works.

it just happened to me with both my third party batteries of Patona. My original fuji battery is still fine. all three were charged regularly with the patona charger. i found somewhere online that a charger should have 3 or 4 pins like the original fuji charger has. the patona charger has only two pins. therefore the charging voltage cannot be accurately checked and batteries can be overcharged. so now i use only the original charger of fuji. but since it happened only to my patona batteries, this plays a role as well: use only original batteries if possible. i learned my lesson. no longer third party chargers or third oarty batteries.

wow, this is an incredibly helpful comment. I will pin it to the top so everyone can learn. This is happening to so many people, but they aren't speaking up. I'm the last person to spend money on authentic batteries.. but now I can't go back. Thank you for sharing!

I got it out! I took my lens off and put the whole camera in the fridge for 15/20 minuets and it slid out! The swelling went down but I'll never use that battery ever again! Thanks for getting back to me!

Just had a battery swell and get stuck in an old XT1. After several different methods the one that worked for me was getting some strong Mounting tape or double sided tape. It would be super adhesive and able to hold a certain weight (such as a picture frame). Put the sticky part on just the battery and wait a few seconds then lift. Battery came right out.

I recently purchased an X-E3, my first Fuji. I noticed immediately that the OEM batteries are slightly concave on the two larger surfaces. All 4 of my Fuji batteries are like this. My guess is that this inward curvature is designed to allow the battery to expand slightly with heat, but I haven't seen this confirmed anywhere. In any case, I will avoid using 3rd-party batteries with this camera.

I have seen several articles on third party batteries for Fuji cameras. The swelling seems to be an issue on many brands. From what I have read Watson (sold through B&H) and Green Extreme (sold through Adorama) seem to be the safest options. This is for the X-T1 camera along with non 4K cameras. If you use an X-T2 or another 4K Fuji camera I highly recommend using the Fuji "S" batteries only. They are designed to handle the extra heat that is generated when shooting 4K video.

Mark Eggers see, and i thought they had to be all the same. i havent heard of those other brands. im always checking for swelling just in case. i wont make the mistake of buying cheaper batteries again. thank you for the recommendations!!

I used the heavy duty velcro and it came out enough where I could grab it and pull it out. It was really stuck in there. It was swollen on both sides.

After an hour, I got it out! The tweezers and hitting did NOT work for me. I took the end of an ink pen cap and ripped the metal hook part off. Then I used one end of the metal stick and fitted it inside the battery compartment (opposite the battery lock side). I was able to pull out a tiny bit of the battery from that side. I kept working with it all around the edge, but only mostly that side would work. After a while more of the battery came out, but still it wouldn't release. Finally I got rougher and pulled out more of the battery from that same side even if it damaged the battery. After a TON of work prying little by little of the battery edge out with the metal plane, enough of the battery was out so that I could get a really good grip on the battery. At that point (about twenty minutes later) I left the metal stick to the side and was able to use my fingers to grip the battery firmly and fight it. I kept pulling it out from side to side while holding the camera between my arms over my chest (I was lying with my back to the ground curled around the camera trying to get it out, so that if it fell, it would be close to the floor) and eventually the battery slowly slowly came out millimeter by millimeter, until suddenly it slid all the way out!!! It was super swollen too. I checked the state of the empty battery compartment in my camera, luckily there was no damage to anything necessary at all!

Thanks for the share. Fujifilm designed the new "S" batteries for the same exact reason. In fact, the "S" stands for "Shielded." Guess the lesson here is to avoid non-OEM batteries. Cheers!

@@jimmycphoto managed to get it unstuck. Turns out the spring had made it down there and made the battery stuck. Had to use a tool to get the spring unstuck as well as it had somehow melted a bit of plastic.

I've had the same problem with both Fuji and Watson batteries. Today I had to take the battery out of my XPro2 with a knife. I've examined all of my batteries. I have 6 with one of them finally put to rest because it won't hold a charge. Two are brand new Watson, two are old Watson and two are Fuji. When I put the flat side down on a table the older ones (Watsons AND Fuji) rock just a little telling me that they're deformed. Only the two new Watsons are perfectly flat. Also my older batteries have become increasingly difficult to put in and take out of the camera. The new Watsons fall right in and out. My suggestion is that once the batteries start to bind on the sides of the battery compartment set them aside for emergency use and get new batteries. Incidentally the four older batteries I got with the camera about 6 years ago and they've all seen a LOT of use professionally and personally.
@jimmycphoto
@jimmycphoto Год назад
ah that makes sense. they have seen a lot of use. and the table test is a great idea since we can't perceive the slightest bow with our eyes which could prevent putting a knife to our beloved equipment. thank you for your 💡
@williamkoechling5965
@williamkoechling5965 Год назад
@@jimmycphoto I couldn't see it either but I put both sides on the table and all but the brand new ones rock on both sides of the batteries except one which only rocked on one side. This has been a problem each time I replaced batteries and I was willing to live with it until I finally couldn't get the battery out! Lesson learned.

@jimmycphoto
@jimmycphoto 7 лет назад
Kimberly Griffin oh no! i didnt think this would happen to as many people as im finding... i dont think the swelling goes down. smacking the camera may work like i did, bit dont do it up high or on a hard desk. do it near the floor on top of a large blanket just in case. remove the lens as well since your battery seems really stuck and you may need to use some gentle force. i would recommend other methods, but i dont want you to ruin your camera based on my dumb ideas... if it doesnt come out with smacking it like a ketchup bottle, take it to a camera repair place you trust. its not worth damaging a camera.

The battery looks to have suffered a partial build up of gas when charging. I think the problem could be your charger over charging there battery. I would not use that battery again and would also look to replace your charger.

Hi Tom - Its a 3rd party battery, power2000, I use other brands too. They all work great. Batteries are cheap now, aren't meant to last forever. I got some good use out of it. Just have to catch the issue before it leaks or explodes in the camera!
@tomgee887
@tomgee887 7 лет назад
from what I have read and viewed you have to yous the s/type batteries in the camera they are the correct voltage. I also know people have been buying the cheaper batteries for the grip and they work, but there is a problem when charging the cheap batteries in the grip. what I'm saying is the cheap batteries should be charged in the single Fuji charger for safety I got most of the information from the angryphotographer youtube site as far as Fuji goes he is correct in his test he done on them Yes I no a lot of people don't like him but he does no a lot about the Fuji X cameras however I'm only stating what I no to be true as an X-T2 user I was charging the cheaper batteries in my grip and they got very warm I think the grip charger puts in a higher voltage so I use the standard Fuji charger for the cheapest batteries that could be an other reason your battery became beveled its getting to hot in the grip I have the s/type as well never get a problem with them I.m only sating what I know its up to you but I think they are overheating I hope your not offended by my point of view Tom G Scotland
@jimmycphoto
@jimmycphoto 7 лет назад
you mean the grip accessory? I didn't know you could charge batteries in that. Very good suggestions, I'm certain a lot of people like myself aren't aware that different accessories can charge with higher or lower voltages. I will definitely be careful with the batteries. Thank you Tom! :)
