This thing really does take off! I've always liked a good Allison gearbox (especially the whining AT545s). Over in Southport (Arriva), we've got 4 '08 plate E200s with Allison gearboxes and although 3 of them are a bit worse for wear, one of them (2143) is an absolute rocket ship. Honestly, it's the quickest bus I've driven and that's despite the fact it only has the 4cyl Cummins engine. That particular bus drives like it's in permanent kickdown mode! 😁
It really is quick, that’s one im thing I applaud Allison for, the newer gearboxes they’ve made for the euro 6 buses are much better in performance than e.g the Allisons in the Euro 5 E200s. And I’m not surprised you’ve driven a rocket ship of an E200! 🤣 In my opinion, no other Allison will beat the Allison 2100s used in the Euro 4 E200s!
Yep I might need to try to them out on replacement, I always see one at CLJ but there’s always an older, more nostalgic bus around so I just go for that one 😂😂
Jesus never seen an Allison vehicle in action before. Some damn power to this. Shocked it has the 4 Cylinder 4.5L Cummins, not the 6 Cylinder 6.7L. just shows what a difference a good gearbox makes over a voith! Great video! Edit: One of those gearboxes would work wonders to a Streetdeck...
6 Cylinder MMCs with Allison would be something else… 😮💨 Yeah it’s mostly Voith who do Stop-Start Technology so that’s what most of the companies go for. I’ve got better allison vid, from a Euro 6 E200 from CTPlus on my channel, had kickdown that one! Thanks btw! 👌🏾
Never driven an E200 MMC but I much prefer an Allison transmission to a Voith. I utterly detest the way modern Voiths throw themselves up a gear for no reason and get confused so easily. They seem incapable of making a smooth gear chance. Driven plenty of VDL SB200s with a nice functioning kickdown and they're a smooth gearbox. Its the modern stuff in the Streetlites and Streetdecks that decide how much throttle you get and when it should change up that are really jerky. Apparently Voith E200s aren't much better. Streetdecks and Streetlites rev the hell out of themselves in 1st gear and then throws itself into 2nd gear and you can feel the bus jerking when it does it
Modern voith gearboxes do get very confused. Not sure if the Voith manufacturers know this happens a lot but I think they should revert to how they made it before. And yes I do agree, with a lot of the 3 speed streetlites, they scream in 1st, then drop very low into 2nd, it’s not good for the engine. It a factor that decreases passenger comfort as well. I can definitely see why you prefer driving an Allison over an Voith
As I’ve been informed by someone trustworthy it is not proper kickdown, but these are certainly quick, to make up for it I know of a batch with proper kickdown that will hopefully come into service soon Thanks 👍🏾
There’s no specific area I find the information from, but usually a google search like enviro 200 engine should show you some information, or search for like e.g ‘Enviro 200 brochure’
