All this pumping upwind. If they want to make it an athletics event, they should add a separate on-shore contest to the pure sailing - harnessing the natural action of the wind on the sails.
Rule 42 has been altered by the 470 class rules since 2003, pumping has been legal for a long while. Windsurfers have been pumping for years before that, its always been sailing.
@@samuelwalker2191 It makes sense in windsurf but dinghies are different, pumping upwind is dumb, it looks bad, it breaks boats and it makes roll tacks pointless. It objectively makes sailing worse.
Oh I hate all that pumping and oching. That wouldn't be allowed in the sailing I do. The Olympics is a different world. I'm not so keen on watching this.
