This is so great and encouraging! I'm pregnant and need to add space to the house in order to fit in a nursery. I'm planning on paying for drywallers but doing everything else myself. After watching this I think it's definitely possible!
That's awesome! First off, congrats on being pregnant! The wife and I remodeled our entire house when my wife was 4 months pregnant - I definitely appreciate the stress! I had never done all this alone before and so, to you I say, it is definitely possible!
Lots of comments on insulation on concrete wall. I agree. 1 inch foam first then wall then electrictical then fiberglass. Then vapor barrier. And you need more outlets. Looks awesome though..
Absolutely amazing i just bought a house and i have a basement and its everything i dreamed of when i wanted a house and now that i have it i have no clue what i want or want to do
I loved this video! I recently moved to my brothers house and next year im going to have his basement finished into a room for myself and 2 kids. I opened an extra savings account to put money every month for that project, and wanted to not go over 5000 (because not all of it ill be DIY)
Wonderful and very inspirational. The "time lapse" makes it look like - easy peasy! But I know it isn't and it takes time and tons of work to get it looking good. I have a finished "rec room" in the basement of my 1956 small ranch style home, it needs some refreshing, so I've been watching videos by people brave enough to take on their basements and turn them into something useful, which is a lot more than what I'm thinking about doing. Wondering (1) is there something you could do to hide the cords dangling down from the ceiling and (2) would prefer seeing the metal posts boxed in to give the entire room a finished look.
I love how you have utilised the space in the basement and how you framed the cupboards to fit the existing shelves and storage boxes. Clever use of the wooden planks on he stair wall and wall projector screen. 🤗💕🏴
Good question! I'm no electrician, and when we first bought the house there was pretty severe water damage down there - especially electrical related. We've had an electrician out since to do the repairs. Most of the power i was pulling from the adjacent laundry room.
My basement is bad man I hope twenty k will transform it my home was built in 1912 so there is the original coal pit in the floor! But now our furnace is there.
Great job. I don't know how you did it under $2k ... I have a 1200 sq ft basement and it would cost me over $1200 just to frame it (I have plans that include interior walls) - if I were able to get 2' x 4's! Even now, they are quoting me at least 2-3 months at the local big box store. Last year they had all the 2' x 4's you wanted for $12 a piece ...
Awesome job! I'm looking to paint my exposed basement ceiling flat black, but my local box stores aren't much help as far as picking out a paint. Would you mind telling me which kind you used? Thanks!
Sure! They have paint called ceiling paint made specifically for what you need. It comes in white typically, but I assume you can color mix it. If you can't I'd suggest a matte finish paint. And pick a brand that covers more each coat (our least favorite part of the whole project was painting the ceiling)
I borrowed the nailer from my father-in-law, but after using it, and if I didn't have that option in the future, I would DEFINITELY buy one. The cordless was awesome, the nails never jammed and the battery lasted hours I set the walls back substantially to make up for moisture and all that
Thanks! - I did misjudge how they would hang. Since they slide behind and in front of one another, it looks different than it they were just side by side.
Hey thanks! Took around 5 months BUT! There were weeks where I didn't touch anything lol. If I had too, probably would have taken a month in a half? Did the whole rest of the house in 4 months. Let's build this hidden room! Haha
