Completely agree nothing better than a 'clear the bench' project. After watching your Airfix P-51 build a few weeks back, I started mine and - as a mojo restorer - it's been an absolute pleasure. Won't be doing the Tamiya 109, it's just not on my radar, but I've got (far too many) of their car & AFV kits queueing-up at the bench just now... All the best from New Zealand.

As a Bf 109 "aficionado", I liked the way you stuck to your OOB plan and the way your build turned out. Sometimes keeping things simple adds to the aesthetics of the result.

I bought a WW I plane from Eduard so I could take advantage of receiving a beer mug with a Luftwaffe squadron insignia on it. They picked it out; I couldn't pick which one. Funny thing though, the Devil's Head Squadron (54th) decal that you applied was the one on the beer glass. Pretty cool. Thanks for listening to my boring story... You do great work, sir...

Beautiful work. I have the 1/72 scale model, I only build in 1/72 scale, ww2 aircraft and the occasional tank. Finished yesterday the AZModels 1/72 G2 Hans-Joachim Marseille version, yellow 14, great kit also. Keep it up and happy modelling.

thank you! I usually model in 72nd scale as well, they take up much less room, but every now and then I do enjoy the details of a 48th scale kit.

One feature of the Bf-109 I never see offered on models, including Tamiya, is the portside sliding window on the canopy. I guess this would be a difficult addition to add on stock F-4, G-6 models.
@HammerheadModelMaking
@HammerheadModelMaking 9 месяцев назад
yeah, as an out of the box feature, may be difficult, but I'm sure someone has made the modification!

Yeah, I stay away from IHATELARRY kits. Trumpeter & Special Hobby, are pain in the butt enough, never mind Roden. Tamiya is always the hit reset kit. Always good to try new methods, weather to your satisfaction, I like the result. The 109 came out excellent. Congrats!

Generally, I agree with you about Italeri kits, the F7F however is a reboxing of AMT molds and really the issues weren't with the kit so much as it was with me being ambitions with adding aftermarket. I haven't built many trumpeter kits and no Special hobby kits, but I haven't always heard great things about them. I do have two Hobby Boss kits in my lineup and those will be firsts for me, we'll see how those go. Glad you like the 109 though and thanks for the view! -Brett

Hi Brett, another work of art. Just goes to show how OOB can be really effective. Being a superb modeler also helps! Anyway what pressure did you have your compressor set on for the mottling please. I know practice makes perfect but my practice obviously is the exception to the rule. And I have a Trumpeter 1/32 on the way - yipes. Great video sir, all the best from England.
@HammerheadModelMaking

In hind sight, I probably had it set too high, I think it was around 20-25 psi. I should have thinned the paint down more and gone down to 15 psi. Good luck you your Trumpeter kit!

I like the out of the Box build, the paint job is for me flawless. About the rivet detail, yes we all want to have that detail but it is more correct when you actually have none, in the scale we build our models the rivets and panel lines would be so small that you need magnifiers to see them , most detailed rivets and panel lines are off scale, mean to big if you would calculate them up to the original it would be look like the panels all about to short . And for the RLM colors there are non of those it is a made up from the model companys . By the Time the German had already the RAL Paint System in existence , The RLM numbers where not used for paints , there are used for existing /prototype or in Production Aircrafts and of course for new Aircrafts soon to be in constructed. And you can be for sure the RLM would not have used the same number code for the paints and Aircrafts. So from a Accuracy standpoint the RLM colors are non existent so the colors you using are the wrong colors/Paints.

You are absolutely right about the scale size of things like rivets and panels lines and I know there are lots of passionate discussions about the merits of both, for and against, and I definitely lean more towards the for, I like the detail it adds, but I totally get its not for everyone. And it certainly doesn't take away from what is an absolutely brilliant kit.
@powertothebauer296
@powertothebauer296 Год назад
@@HammerheadModelMaking You are right too, i also lean towards for, but I also build ship models from scratch I am not adding rivets or welding seems and no one is complaining they are not there, even on originals you will not see it is a riveted Hull or not , you have to go close to the hull and have a close eye to see the rivets , I know it we had a riveted ship pulled out of the Water for repairs and painting. I had paid no attention to the Hull or other stuff and I past several times the ship before my eyes catched the rivets. And then I had to look closely so I noticed it was a fully riveted hull.

@@powertothebauer296 Wow, I am always in awe when someone can build something up from scratch like that. I mean I've done a little scratch work on existing kits, but never a whole subject from scratch!

I'm catching up with a lot of your videos. You mentioned in this video you would rather go with aftermarkets decals. Can you give me an example or two of which decals you'd rather use? Edited to add: I subscribed as well!
@HammerheadModelMaking
@HammerheadModelMaking Год назад
Specifically to this kit, I would prefer decals from EagleCals. They make a number of sets for the G-6 and I've used their decals on other projects in the past and I would highly recommend them. www.eagle-editions.com/product-category/aircraft-decals-for-the-modeler/ Other brands I've used for different projects are CTA decals, AeroMaster, Furball decals to good effect. Thanks for the sub and for watching!

I have a question, I’m decently new to modeling and I was wondering what the glue brush you have is so I don’t have a bunch of crusty spots on my kits
@HammerheadModelMaking
@HammerheadModelMaking 9 месяцев назад
I assume you are referring to the little brush attached to the green lid? That comes with the Tamiya Extra thin glue.

I think the bright lights I use for my photography kind of wash out the pre shading, cause it’s much more noticeable in person. But I get what you’re saying.
