Eastern Washington's general archery elk season is here and I've got the entire season to hunt. This is an over-the-counter tag, public land hunt, and do-it-yourself. Washington is known for tough elk hunting and this season is no different. After many miles, we encounter only a few elk but it's all worth it.

I thought you did a good job. I've found that elk can pinpoint you to the yard so I would always call to the side or behind me and then move forward towards the elk 3-10 yards to get to a new shooting position. Of course this is easier without a camera and when you know the terrain well.

Hey I'm from Minnesota and something that we do here anyway that seems to help quite a bit is get some trapping lure cover scent like skunk urine. Pour a bunch of it on an old sock and then get a piece of rope or something just tie it around one of your ankles. Obviously it smells terrible but it seems that it puts the whitetail deer at ease, even downwind. When you get back to your camp you can just hang it in the tree you know 20-30 yards away from your camp so it doesn't smell the camp up. Also when I'm walking in the woods I keep a wild turkey hen call in my mouth and if I break twigs or different things like that I just make a couple of the hen calls and it seems like everything in the woods just goes back to normal. Yeah, I always hear about bulls utilizing wallows more during the rut to mask their scent on them but I haven't found that to be too true up here. It could just be that they're using different wallows that I am unaware of.

Definitely something I want to get into is compound bow hunting. I’ve only ever done rifle hunting. So since I just got stationed here in Washington I want to get a bow so I can hunt a wide range of game. I don’t have a place to put a lot of gear as well so Ik bow will be good for it will be challenging, but I’m willing to learn.

Bowhunting is definitely a big change of pace compared to rifle hunting. It has it's own challenges, but also it's own rewards. I started bowhunting 4 years ago and still have a lot to learn. You gotta start somewhere!

Just so you know man i was in gmu 513,516 an 560 an never heard a bull bugle or respond back to any of my calling. Man your so fortunate to get that interaction with the animals an get feedback. Thats information to make you a better more knowledgeable hunter. I put on 60 miles an was out there all 12 days of the season, saw very little to any sign at all. Saw bear scat on every single hike.

Thank you. I've never hunted that unit so I can't offer much help. As for any rifle elk hunt in Washington, it'll likely be a tough hunt. Be persistent, glass when possible, timber sneak when glassing isn't producing. That's what elk hunting here really comes down to! Good luck out there.

Thanks. I just simply export my video to H.264 out of Premiere Pro. I don't notice any significant difference in my video quality when comparing raw files to post-production. Is your video quality downgraded significantly or just by a little bit?

Dude your vids are getting better and better! I have one thing I want to say that I noticed, with a full disclaimer that I've never hunted elk. It seems like every time you get setup and an elk is coming in, you stop calling and almost act like you're hanging up on the elk you're calling in and so that's why they hang up just out of range. I get movement is an issue if you are bugling and then transitioning to your bow but that's just what I saw from your vid. Hope that helps and keep up the awesome videos!

Couldn't you stick your SD card into your camera?

I could've, but there is always a high risk of the camera reformatting the SD card. Sometimes, the camera needs to reformat the SD card to make the settings/SD card compatible with my camera. Reformatting will delete everything off of the SD card and change settings which is not ideal. I just brought the SD card home and looked at them on the computer although it really gave me no intel during my hunt.
