Wimpy all the way! Also Wimpy has always been a Diner, never a "fast food restaurant". Superior in every way and value for money. Wish I still had one near me. Spent my youth there after the pictures!
I think it varies a lot on location. Wimpy for a long time was in places like bowling alleys as well as their more traditional sit-down restaurants, but they primarily serve burgers these days which is very much a fast-food thing. Sadly they don't seem to be doing very well these days, with many locations closing.
@@mattl_ Yum Foods bought all the Wimpy's except for a a few and turned them into Burger Kings in a deal. The original owners of Wimpy still operate the few left.
According to Wikipedia Wimpy is a fast-food chain that was founded in the United States. There is a restaurant near me which has been there since the 80's. Not eaten there since the early 90's might have to try it again!
i use to work for a butchers supply , every morning we went upstairs for breakfast which consisted of 4 sausages 2 eggs 4 rashers of bacon beans and tomatoes { generous portions as well } as much toast as you wanted and tea or coffee , all for 30 pence a day
Geez haven’t been to Wimpy since the 1970’s. They all but disappeared in many areas. Used to love their beef burger and chips (as in you got burger patties and chips on a plate - not a bun). And their Knickbocker Glory (ice cream sundae in a tall glass).
If you like hot dogs I would seriously recommend trying wimpys bender in a bun. Absolutely delicious. And their special sauce is amazingly good too. @@everydayimeating3407
I haven't even seen a Wimpy for about 25 years! I grew up in South Africa, and Wimpy was a staple. We had one in our small town, and maybe once a month my mum would take me after school. On the menu was T-bone steak, chips and eggs! And it was always table service, right down to the bill.
Wimpy just for me aswell but both looked delicious thanks for another great video mate keep it up hopefully some more £50 challenges in the pipeline aswell 🎉🎉🎉🎉
Yes, agree. Wimpy - it looked better. Also better value for money. Plus table side service. I used to eat at Wimpy back in the 1970s. And it was good then, so I guess they know what they're doing. And they are still in business.
Hello, EIE Whimpy looked amazing.A full plate of delicious goodies. Frankie and Benny's were not presented well. I was not amazed by anything Whimpy wins Thanks for a great video😊😊
Wimpy takes the trophy based on appearance, price and service. I like my hashbrowns incinerated. Theirs are superior to F&B's tater tots. The absence of black pudding is another plus in Wimpy's favor IMO. Enjoy watching your videos. It seems the British cuisine has greatly improved in the 25 years since I last visited. The British Restaurant Association owes you an award.
From the perspective of a long-time retail worker, at 0:29, when you pushed in the glass door, and not the handle, all I could think is, “Someone's gonna have to clean that door”.
Wimpys definitely has this one. I'm surprised with F & B looking like they stiffed you on the baked beans and bacon, especially after they did so well with the calzone. I appreciate that you don't include the sound of you chewing in your vids as hearing people chew sets my teeth on edge. Your vids are a fun watch as well.
I always loved Wimpy Meals & this Breakfast was lovely, perfect eggs, sausage & bacon & I love grilled/fried tomato & mushrooms- good serving of baked beans, with black pudding this Breakfast would have been perfect! Frankie & Benny's , lovely cup of Yorkshire tea, for the most part a nice Breakfast but what let this down was the amount of baked beans. Wimpy is the winner for me! So enjoy your reviews, well presented & excellent as always! Take care 💜
Hi from Los Angeles! Classic sunny, warm, LA weather today! As an American (where tots originated from)... Those were Not proper Tots. You got potato puffs. Real tots are actually hash brown nuggets. "Ore Ida" brand's frozen "Tater Tots" being the original and still the best. Wimpy gets my vote. The breakfast looked more substantial and better prepared. I also don't see F&B's point of serving two forms of potato, especially those "Imposter tots 🤣".
@@everydayimeating3407 I know you've got the McCain brand in the UK. If you have McCain's Tasty Taters, they are a 95% accurate version. Slightly softer than Ore Ida's. If can get them, try making the Tater Tot casserole which is a dinner time staple with many US families. You can watch vids on how to make it on this platform
The Wimpy name comes from the Popeye cartoon and it has always been a table service type of place. I remember them as a boy but they seemed to die out as I got older. Good to see that they are coming back!
I'm suprised yoare not familar with the Wimpey chain - it's older than McD's here in the UK and they remained a "diner" rather than a fast-food place over all these years. I'd encourage you to go back there and try the Main Menu as their burgers & grills are brilliant!
That's one of those where there's certain items I would pick off one and certain items off the other. Sausages and bacon off Wimpy and mushrooms, potatoes and toast off F & B (plus black pudding which you didn't get at Wimpy). Both eggs and tomatoes looked good (not bothered about beans so portion size doesn't really matter to me).
Wow, what a blast from the past.Wimpy 70yrs old this year, and largely forgotten for the last 10 to 15 years. Then all of a sudden two new reviews in a weeks Gary Eats now your goodself. You could never really call them a fast food restaurant, I've always thought more American Diner.Standard catering sausages, maybe deep fried ( hard to get the all round colour in a pan or under the grill)Eggs could have been basted, personal choice 😊Bacon, beans & mushrooms all up to par. Hash Browns, not sure if cooked at to higher temperature or dirty oil.Toast, with enough butter, pot of tea.Brilliant Cost£12.45 bargain F&B's,visually not as good as Wimpy's. Sausages looked more chipolatas than banger😢Bacon,a tadge greasy, and cooked on a dirty griddle along side the 1/2 tomato.Mushrooms fried well.baked beans ( a child's portion?)Black Pudding not for me thanks. " tater tots " childhood memories 😊❤ Toast, well if you want to call warm uncooked bread toast. Pet peeve, crammed on the side of the plate 😮😮😮 So,making your mind up time. It's just got to be J.Wellington Wimpy ( friend of Popeye's😊) Cheers 🥂 Allan&Family
F&B teapot & cup way better, but for the grub definitely Wimpy. As a kid, Wimpy was amazing. Coincidentally, there's one not so far from where I've lived for the past few years, but yet to try it. No harm once in a while in indulge in a big cooked breakkie 😋
I used to work in a wimpy bar back in the 70’s. They have always been a “ diner “ and not a fast food outlet. You don’t go there for a takeaway. Food is not cooked in advance, so each order is freshly made. Definitely Wimpy comes out on top.
You should try a Chaiwala English Breakfast and compare it to a Weatherspoons. Before anyone says its a mismatch, Weathespoons is the cheapest English Breakfast I've ever had at £2.95, so value is a factor
Wow as some others remarked. I too not seen a wimpy bar in years. Thought they closed due to the fast food, KFC Maccy D outlets. Use love wimpy bars down in the southern regions. The burgers and circular sausages were well moorish. Thanks for taking me down memory lane. Guess I should get out more if Wimpy Bars still around. Always were my go to eatery when on the road, travelling. Enjoyable video.
A lot of food reviewers here on RU-vid use Heinz as the benchmark for baked beans . But today Heinz are no longer the best baked beans they are in all honesty one of the poorest baked beans even being surpassed by some supermarket home branded beans. I think as a benchmark Branston beans is a good choice. I’m a small convenience store owner and I sell Branston beans over Heinz 2 to 1 and some weeks 3 to 1
Both breakfasts looked nice. Do any English restaurants offer old-fashioned bubble and squeak with their breakfasts? It would be a nice change to see this instead of American hash browns or tater tots.
Fun Facts: Frankie & Benny's is a British chain with 90 branches in the Divided Kingdom, 35 of which are closing due to the wonderful cost of living crisis.
Although the Frankie & Bennys looked OK I am not a huge fan of the green inside the cup. Wimpy used to be a common name in the high street and we all used to go there ,can't remember what the food was like, and sadly a lot disappeard , but I have heard of a recent resurgence of the name and every one seems to think it is quite good! So come on Wimpey make the food good and as healthy as possible ,while trying to keep the price acceptable to most customers , and get that British icon back where it should be !
PS. Both breakfasts looked delicious so much so my only option is to get some bacon, sausages out my freezer and do my own tomorrow. I'd happily eat both those you reviewed but like you, the Wimpy shaded it for me just a real shame there is no such establishment anywhere close to me.
The original Wimpy is an institution and the food is still the same as it was years ago which is a plus for me. A shame that there are so few restaurants left in the UK as I think they would still be a hit in many cities if they decided to refranchise or open again. The older generation like me, like them so maybe that is a potential issue as most franchise operations look to growth and youth but I think it would be a resounding success as the demographic is still there and the food tastes great. I have a Wimpy here where i live abroad and its a completely different burger and operation, a different brand and taste, and although it's still really good, it's not the same, and the character of the original Wimpy should never be lost, especially in the UK.
Everydayimeating a noisy question do you cause u film 2 meals in a vid a day so do u eat them on the same day or different days and remember which is the best one I have an idea 4 you lol it could save u money instead of eating out I'm not saying you have to do it tho I'm not telling you what to do it be interesting what about cooking 2 meals the same but a budget vs a brand one or supermarket cheapest vs the next cheapest in a same supermarket like example sainsbury's the cheapest one sainsbury's value vs next price up 👍
Wimpy bars have being around since the 1970 ! Could be earlier then that love the burgers we travel to that one especially not a lot of wimpys open now !
Omg where is that wimpy I didn't know they were still going out one in Liverpool went about 30 years ago 😮....I have written this comment before finishing the video as in my opinion on looks alone its wimpy as the winner .😊
100% Wimpy any time much better than most other fast food places its more like a proper cafe always has been. Wimpy was similar too the Golden Egg restaurant chain.
Great reviews for both places. Try The Palace cafe on Buckingham palace road in London ( or rather, dont ) if you want a contrast of good and er well , evil 😮
Well they both looked good but, for value for money, I'm going to my favourite greasy spoon cafe - great food at a reasonable price. I love Wimpy burgers though!
Wimpy for me! Although hash browns shouldn't be anywhere near an English Breakfast. The F&B's looked bloody awful. Anaemic toast and cheap looking bacon. Presented all wrong. Wish we had a Wimpy near us.
As well as the difference of doing table service Wimpy serve all their meals including burgers on real plates with real cutlery. Most of the other places serve them in polystyrene boxes which I hate.
I think they both look good, it would be better if U could cut the sausage/hash brown rather than spearing with the fork. You are informative about flavours so good for that......
Wimpy all day long... As everything looked to be beautifully cooked... Everything looked absolutely delicious... As i don't like seeing a Full English Breakfast with half cooked anemic looking food items on the plate... But the Wimpy Breakfast was perfectly cooked for me.😋
No - same here. Funny thing is I never remember full English used to have black puddings whatsoever. It is a trend that has occurred in the last 10-20 years I reckon. And full English overseas never includes black pud either. Black pud was a northern thing - not sure when it became national.
wimpy £ 10.45 plus drink £2 for 12 items. the hash are very dark so Total £12,45 was not the prices listed on the video Gary eats did i am sure the breakfast was more there F&B £10.90 for 14 items. drink £2.30 you have more mushrooms. total £13.20 If you take it that both cost more than two traditional breakfasts at Wetherspoons. which is £5, unless you fine the best value one that does it for £3.14. like my local. the choice is close. but there are not as many of either wimpy's looks like there is only 5 as there are F&B only 3 when i put it in on google maps for UK.
