Jo Frost is back! This week, Jo is talking to a family which are house proud and always want a clean house. Is this why their son is misbehaving so much? Later on in the show, Jo talks to a family which feel like they would rather be a work than at home with their kids.
Family conflicts are usually kept behind closed doors - until now. Fresh from her role in Supernanny, Jo Frost brings her experience to a new talk show format.
Real Families brings you stories of modern day family life from around the world through the eyes of children, parents, and parenting experts.

I was *just* about to comment that. I can't believe she's giggling about that. That's like..the least funny thing I've ever heard. Totally taking this man's agency away from him. She's lucky he didn't leave, honestly. He *said* he didn't want anymore kids and she's giggling about tricking him?! I'm glad they didn't gloss over it or treat it like it was some kind of joke. She needed a reality check about what an awful thing that is to do to a person. What a selfish woman.

The first family I would say of - The parents are utterly selfish, and downright STUPID ! Forget being on the same page, they’re not even in the same book ! Both working full time because they WANT the cash to buy even MORE beautiful things , for their oh ! so beautiful, stunning house ( note I say house not home ) 2 kids, well spaced out, and they ‘ just can’t cope’ Oh pleeese ! Give me the vomit bowl ! If they don’t want them ruining their wonderful house, then give them to a couple who desperately WANT but are unable to have children, and let that couple become a family, where those 2 children will be loved , nurtured, disciplined and given the chance of a life and leave the birth parents to sit back and enjoy their oh so perfect home !! And Jo ! If you ever want a ‘side kick’ ? I’m ready and willing and available as ‘SUPER GRANNIE’!!I’m 72 with 4 grandchildren of my own and many others ‘adopted’ all over the world !!

I used to be these parents. My husband would yell if my house was dirty and what had I done all day. My aunt finally said “ I wasted all my time cleaning, never stop to play with my kids. Don’t make the same mistake I did” from that day I told my husband I’m done cleaning till the kids are in bed. And then the house will be clean at night time.

I had this issue with my niece because my sister let her run unchecked and undisciplined. Whereas my kids in my house had rules. And when she come over and my sister was there and I would try and say something about the behavior my sister would side with her child and act like I was doing something wrong and wanting her to behave in my house. At that point you just have to not have them over.

If you can't handle any mess, you might want to reconsider having children at all... Just saying. See it as a phase, once the youngest start school the mess is much easier to handle, and what mess is there the children can help clean up. We had several years without any ornaments or flowers or anything (except toys) below 1,5 meters (5 feet). Made life sooo much easier..

And it wasn't even her first child, she deliberately got pregnant without the father's consent with their 2nd. How can you want another child if you figured out with child #1 that you like nice things better than a baby?
@shywolf4
@shywolf4 5 лет назад
That mother actually shows classic signs of OCD. It is possible that the first child did not put a strain on the mother's ocd because she was a much quieter calmer child. There is also a well known phenomenon that the hormones from childbirth can suddenly worsen icd symptoms to the point that they become all consuming. I have a famiky member with ocd and the compulsions (cleaning, hoarding, germ avoidance, repetitive behavior etc) are so strong that it is almost physically impossible for the person to not do them. Hopefully the mom got treatment to help.

I had no issues with mess when I was younger/before I had kids. Now, however, I really struggle with the constant clutter and mess. It really ranks up my anxiety (something I only started suffering with AFTER becoming a mum). It’s not as black and white as “don’t have kids if you don’t like mess”

This is a perfect example as to why kids need to go outside and climb trees, roll around and crawl into dark tiny spaces. Yet parents, schools, playgrounds now have stopped providing that option for kids. Best thing to do is be an active parent and take them to the river, trek through the bush, even mud puddle through the local school grounds when it's wet, take them off track in the local park. Just give them the experience and watch their eyes shine and be the little "hippies" they are. 😍

Everyone is blaming the lady I agree she was wrong to do such a thing but he should have used protection too if he so didn’t want any kids. No birth control is 100% But I also agree they want the kids to mould around thier lifestyle. My home is not perfect.but when I go sleep at night o know I have had quality time with my kids and they growing up will have happy memories. I have a set routine and it’s timed for playtime with kids,one on one time as I have : boys 8/5/3 and then I know when it’s homework/reading time and I have a set bedtime routine. My kids can do certain chores like make thier beds tidy thier rooms.sieg our thier socks drawer and general tidy up in the house. They put clothes for laundry’s etc.leeping a child busy through these kind of activities keeps them busy and motivated. I didn’t hear a single praise for either child. Update would be really nice

As a parenting coach I'm thrilled to see there's a show about parenting ... finally!!! Parenting is all about leadership. If parents aren't leaders for their kids, the kids feel lost and out of control. And as they grow up they'll search out leadership from their peers, the internet, or the drug dealer on the corner.

This mom needs therapy for OCD and the son may very well have ADHD. I have an ADHD child and looks this very familar. And the mom may not simply be unwilling to make changes, but she appears to be quite anxious about it and unable at this point to makes changes. Until these issues are recognized and treated, bringing out toys and putting expensive items away will do little good. And this family needs to address the issue of her having not taken her birth control in under to have another child without her husband's consent. This may very well be the reason the husband does not have a good relationship with his son, and he may even resent his son. And the son may very well know that he was not wanted from the conversations I am sure the parents have had in front of him or in how they treat him. The father not sleeping in the bed with his wife and is replaced by his son is a very good indication that they need family therapy. If I had a show, I would have encouraged them all to deal with all of these issues.

Good for you! My eldest is 18 now & still a gorgeous boy, really good kid, just a good soul, no angel but a decent lad. It’s been an absolute privilege to care for him, his younger brother too (12). Some folks probably thought I was an ogre towards them but I just always stuck to my guns, no gray areas! I’m also a huge believer in a compromise - like when they wanted to check out the sharp kitchen knives, I let them but only with my supervision. Things like that make a huge difference than just saying no, then having them trying to sneak around for a look. Anyway, I’m rambling. All the best for the future x

People have got to stop thinking children are pure, innocent, naïve, little angels!... The moment they can walk and talk they lie, manipulate, deceive... Children by nature are self centered and narcissists because they don't know better... It is up to th parents to teach them they are not the center of the universe... They have to share, wait their turn, learn how to deal with frustration and impulse... This child is not mistreated or neglected but just a spoiled brat who wants his way...

They said they'd been together 13 years and the oldest daughter was 13 so maybe that's the reason they stayed together? Maybe that wasn't planned. But then 10 years in they decide to get married and she decides to deceive him by not taking birth control and having another child! I don't understand how she ever thought this was going to work out well. Maybe in the beginning she said she didn't want kids and they were on the same page but over time that changed for her. That would mean that it was time to have a conversation, not to be selfish and just decide to stop taking birth control and break the trust of your partner by getting pregnant against his wishes.

OMG for real that first woman not telling him she wasn’t taking her pill??? I absolutely hate women like that - a child isn’t just her choice when she’s already in a relationship! That’s such a selfish thing to do, life changing for somebody else who you’ve got into that situation under false pretense. I know somebody who did that a few years ago and everything became so so bad. The only one who suffered - and still does - is the little boy that was product of it. They have all these laws and so-called rights to protect women because they’re supposed to be the most vulnerable statistically, but they can’t forget about the men. I think lying about contraception are being devious like she was is just another type of entrapment. Which is abuse. Which should be punishable in the justice system. Women like her make my blood boil. It’s so unfair on the man. So, so unfair.

Heather Rose yes. His parents have spent exactly ZERO time with him doing anything at a table. Kids aren’t born sitting at tables and behaving. It’s a skill they LEARN. They have taught their child NOTHING, but expect him to be a good little soldier following orders, sitting at a table when he has absolutely no experience.

My God, put that telly out while eating and stop finding excuses!!! And stop treating that child as if he was a bad behaved adult! He's 3 years old, for figs sake! He needs to be messy and experimenting and running around and playing. Man, people are incredible sometimes. When are parents going to learn that children don't just behave on call? They have to learn the skills, and the parents have to teach that. Basicelly: you have to RAISE your children.

@binknbaby 4 года назад
Why was the boy at a separate dinner table? Anyone else find that strange? I mean... no wonder he's going to desperate measures to get their attention at mealtimes. He's lonely and wants to sit with his parents! And bed-sharing can be done easily without compromising the parents' relationship. It seemed they thought in terms of all or nothing on that front and didn't care to look into simple ways to make it work. Like getting a bigger mattress, or setting a toddler mattress on the floor. So many struggles would've been made easier by making small adjustments to consider the child's needs/wants over their rigid view of how their home should be run.

I think I accidentally left my birth control behind? if your husband says he doesn't want anymore kids just one and he's fine with that what gives you the right to go out and leave your birth control behind and allow yourself to get pregnant and disrespecting what your partner wants as well? child knows he isn't wanted that's the source of all the crying and whining he can feel it from his father when his father says I've had enough oh, he's had enough since the day you forgot your birth control! Disrespecting your partner in such a blatant way is just wrong.

Now that I have stopped howling with laughter.....NONE of this is Kyle's fault. None of it. Kyle is a 3 year old child doing exactly what 3 year old little boys do.He's giggling, he's making messes, he's running around playing and driving you crazy. That's NORMAL for a boy his age. You may want him to be this perfect little porcelain doll living in your perfect little pristine home, but he's not. He's a little boy. He's GOING to make messes. He's GOING to get into trouble. He's going to demand your attention. That's what boys do. As for Kyle needing attention.....of course he does. He's three years old. Children at that age crave the attention of their mommy and not only that, he's probably so BORED in that perfect, pristine palace because you won't let the poor child DO anything (and I haven't seen one SHRED of evidence that YOU play with him or enjoy his company...just yell at him) He's begging for anything to amuse him and he knows if he cries and throw's a fit, he gets Mommy's attention for a minute.. YOU, as his mother, made the decision to go off your birth control pill without telling your husband, even though your husband said he was happy with just your daughter, (which personally, I think that is the most vile and disrespectful thing you could do as a wife and a woman....deceiving your husband like that for such a huge decision)....you BETRAYED your husband's trust. You made a huge decision to go off your pill and get pregnant again without consulting him, or respecting his wishes and you didn't allow him a voice in anything....you even told your friends before you told him you were pregnant with Kyle. And then, because you wanted to keep Kyle a baby. (because he was your last child) you made the decision on your own to let your son sleep in your bed and that resulted in your husband being pushed out (and again....your husband got no say in this). This whole mess is YOUR fault. Not Kyle's. You are a beautiful woman....you have a beautiful home and a beautiful family and its really sad because the price you pay for your incessant need for perfection is your son is unhappy, your husband is disrespected and cast out and your daughter is forgotten. Is it really worth it to you? This need you have to be a princess with your handsome prince in the fairy tale castle with your children and have everything be perfect if your family is so miserable?

Jenna Manton it isn’t about the children in all actuality. None of supernannys shows are actually about the children. They are in a way, but for the most part it’s about the parents and how the parents interact with their children, because a lot of childrens bad behavior is from a lack of discipline or a lack of attention or boredom from a lack of stimulation and all of that can be fixed by the parents.

There's nothing wrong with him, it's just parenting. The dad at the start is talking to him like he's 10 so no wonder he doesn't listen. I see a lot of parents do that, say to their kids "why can't you, don't do that, that hurts mommy/daddy, dad doesn't want that ect" but they aren't showing him what to do, providing discipline to back it up. Talking at toddlers isn't effective at all as a discipline/learning method. He's not going to understand daddy wants to eat alone unless you set up consistent boundaries.
