This my first flight from SAT to DFW on anything other than an MD-80. For years, American flew this route exclusively with McDonnell Douglas. Nowadays, we get a mixture of MD-80's, 738's, A319's, and A321's. I would have loved to have experienced a new A321S, but I wound up with an old US Airways A319, which wasn't bad. The cabin had been retrofitted with American's new interior, minus seatback IFE, which wasn't too bad for a 45-minute flight. However, I would have liked a flight tracker in their Wi-Fi IFE. I hope you enjoy this video, and if you do, leave a like and subscribe!

I will miss the MD-80s. I used to fly them routinely. They're like flying hot rods.

I flew AA for my trip this Christmas. On the way back, I had a layover at DFW and saw a good amount of AA MD-80's. I was jealous of the folks getting to fly them, they are truly a great plane. One thing I noticed on every one of them I saw, they still have the old AA livery. That old livery still looks nice, much better than the newer one.

Great video! I had no idea American was operating the A319 between SAT and DFW. I guess with the MD-80's phasing out they are flying more variety of planes on this route?

Good video! I always wonder why sometimes people would rather pay more for a flight to a city so close to another. Good video though! :D

Very nice video and notations. The flight is longer than I expected, based on your time stamps. Plenty of time to relax some.

zachmatt3 Thanks, man! I try to get better at the notations with each video. I'll miss the MD-80's too, but I might have a chance to get on one more to visit Oklahoma!

What a tiny little POS airplane this is. I got bigger chunks of corn in my crap! What happened to the good old days when size actually mattered? Bring back the B747! I blame the “SmartCar (less is more)” culture for this.

B3burner the 747 would not be economically viable to fly on this route

B3burner you clearly don't know anything about how the aviation industry works

Sam Clements >>> “ you clearly don’t know anything about how the aviation industry works.” You’re right... I don’t. But what I do know is the difference between cramped & relaxed- and that I much prefer the latter over the former.

Sam Clements >>> “ The 747 would not be economically viable to fly on this route.” True, but 747’s are better looking planes esthetically speaking, regardless of economic viability. Though I agree even in 1969 the 747 was a long haul craft. L1011 was a nice looking medium range aircraft designed in the early 70’s to fill that KBOS-KORD niche.. but they just didn’t quite last, and as you alluded to, were replaced by smaller more efficient aircraft. The SWA: DAL-HOU-SAT “cocktail napkin” route birth ushered in the short route, small plane model; though SWA began with 727’s, it wasn’t long before they embraced the 737-200, and the rest is history. While I understand some aviation history , that doesn’t mean I have to like the current state of affairs. I recently had a very negative experience in two stop over-laden trips: OAK-PHX-CMH-CLT & CLT-MSP-SLC-OAK... And after those fiascos, I swear I’ll never fly again. I’d sooner ride Greyhound, Amtrak, drive my own car, ride my bike, or walk across the country like Forest Gump. It’s an ironic pity that the very species that was brilliant enough to invent the miracle & wonder of flight in the first place, is the very same species that has ruined it by overburdening the system (via greed) and making it the horrible mess that it is today. Say what you will about my opinion, but my rant all got started when I had my nut-sack crammed in my throat, trying to sit in a coach seat in the back of an A319.

B3burner I mean I definitely get that being cramped is not fun and that the "glory days" of flying are over, but I think there's actually a lot of beauty in it. Nowadays, many more people have the ability to travel by plane than ever before. Sure, part of the current state of affairs is greed (especially the way airlines nickel and dime you and charge change fees, baggage fees, etc.) but overall, I try to see the beauty in the situation. By making air travel accessible to more people, the world is closer than ever before.
