When I was little, one of the scariest things for me was seeing the sky change to that dark blue colour, I used to think that we were going to space. I’ve grown out of that fear now, however, and find it more interesting than scary. This was a great video, brings back many old memories for me, thank you for sharing these awesome videos with us.
4 months ago, I was on vacation in San Diego, and I've flied on Southwest Airlines to the following destinations Flying to San Diego B737 Max 8 (I think, 2014 "Heart" livery) St. Louis (STL) - Nashville (BNA) B737-800 (I think, 2001 "Canyon Blue" livery) Nashville (BNA) - San Diego (SAN) Flying home from San Diego B737-800 (2001 "Canyon Blue" livery) San Diego (SAN) - Salt Lake City (SLC) B737-800 (2014 "Heart" livery) Salt Lake City (SLC) - St. Louis (STL)
This was a true Ryanair type landing. My camera, and it’s built in stabilization, made it look better than it actually was. This was definitely one of the roughest landings I’ve ever had. Thanks for watching my friend.
That's actually a textbook landing on a short field for an airliner, plant it down and get the WoW(weight on wheels) sensors activating so the spoilers deploy and reduce the landing roll. And yes, I was an airline pilot for eight years and a flight instructor for five. The landing isn't even all that firm. Camera I think would have shook had it been,
A textbook landing, definitely, but it was still rough haha. I believe you're underestimating both my camera's stabilization and my ability to hold the camera still. If I had mounted the camera to the window, it definitely would've shook. However, I hold the camera by hand and have 8 years experience doing that now. I'm very good at holding the camera still, even during a landing like this. And it also have amazing stabilization. So, it was more firm than it appears. Thanks for watching my friend!
@@sla31 Right on, mane. Love the videos. Usually watch one every evening. I dig how you seem to try to be near the wing to show the configurations, flight control checks, and engine start sounds.
@@chrisb8052 Thanks my friend, I'm glad you enjoy them! I'm glad they can be a source of entertainment at the end of the day. Plenty of new content on the way!
The hard landing was because KMDW has some crazy short runways (5500-7000ft) so when your going 140-155kts landing on a short runway like that you don’t have the runway to make a nice flare.
I had one of those recently, what my co worker called a Navy (carrier) landing. Flight attendant after a particularly hard landing: Ladies and gentlemen please remain seated while Captain Kangaroo taxis what's left of the aircraft to the gate.
@@robburns4176 I heard a zinger once where the pilot came onto the intercom and said, "it's not the plane's fault, its not the pilots fault, it's the asphalt" Got a polite chuckle and a few groans from the cabin
Gosh. That was a landing to remember, felt that myself! One to play over and over again. 10/10 as usual for Skylite Productions but next time lets have a smoother touchdown.
Most landings in a 800 are a bit firmer than most into midway if the winds are up the 3 800s i rode on were less than ideal but this actually per the operators manual for the aircraft says is exactly how the plane is to be landed with "positive contact with the runway"
Hi B, many thanks for this one, it looked to be a lovely day for flying and it was certainly very peaceful to watch, apart for the chop and bump at the end lol. Hope you're keeping well my friend, kind regards from P in the UK :-)
Thanks my friend. As always, I'm glad to hear when people enjoy the content. I told some other viewers that I think these pilots were transfers from Ryanair with that landing haha.
Awesome flight Skylite I’ve bought the same phone you have and a mounting device When fly again I’m going to attach it like yours for the entire flight👊🛫🛫😷👏
That’s great my friend. A word of advice. I do not mount the phone to the aircraft when filming. I do travel with a mount, but I only use it for the airport Timelapse is that you see. iPhones have great cameras, but they are not designed to be action cameras. So, what happens, is when you mount the phone to the window, a lot of the vibrations from the engines end up getting transferred into the mount, that then get transferred into the phone. This makes the lens “wobble.” It looks like you’re filming through a clear jello filter. I do not use a mound when I am filming flights. I hold the camera by hand the entire time. In addition to allowing me to move the camera slightly to make sure I’m getting the best shot all the time, it also eliminates the problem of vibrations. Also, it’s worth noting, that’s some airlines do not allow mounts to be used. most don’t have an issue with it. But, Southwest is a notable exception. Southwest does not allow anyone to attach anything to the aircraft, even if it’s a suction cup. So keep that in mind. Good luck my friend!
This aircraft is currently parked at DAL, but for what? Anybody work in SWA’s Maintenance and actually know why 8611 (N8611F) is parked still? It’s been parked since December 18, 2022
@@clarkmckee4700 they still have the tan and blue seats because most -800s have the tans till because of the power cord project thing came to a halt. In my opinion if you have ever flown southwest the tan and blue is miles better than the -700s blue seats and the interior for the max. It is way more comfortable and I think it’s overall the best.
76° in Chicago? This must've been mid Oct. Really digging seeing very familiar locales in South Cook County incl the Harvey railyard and the Thornton quarry at 3:07. SAN departure was picturesque as usual from your travels though I've never been there before. Blessed Thanksgiving to you & yours!
Lots of practice. When I started this channel years ago, I would be doing good if I could hold the camera steady for 10 to 15 minutes at a time. Now, after having done it over and over for years, I can easily hold the camera for 90 minutes to 2 hours between taking breaks. Practice makes perfect!
At the moment, I do not have any plans to fly into Raleigh Durham, but I only have my flights plan through January so.. plenty of time to add RDU in at some point.
Sometimes that's inevitable. Wind tosses an aircraft around like a toy and short runways are not accommodating for a pilot to land smoothly. Any landing survivable is a good one. Keep the blue side up.
On the ground at the beginning of the flight the flight attendant was talking so fast. I'd like to have been there to ask her if she's going to quiz me on all of this later?
Quick question… Why do the pilots lower the flaps down more on some flights and less on others? It looked like the flaps were down at max on this flight.
