Agreed, I appreciate the concise comparisons and contrasts. My take on it, is that while the apsc can emulate some effects of full frame, the full frame can be pushed as well, beyond the limitations of the apsc. Camera system vs camera system, the full frame wins. Factors like price, size, and weight, that is the photographer's part of the process.

While I agree about the price in general (full frame is a lot more expensive!), it was maybe a bit unfair to compare A6400 with a kit lens to a A7 III with a 16-35 GM.
@Mark10ProVideo
@Mark10ProVideo 5 лет назад
That's true:) I was thinking youtube studio instead of lens gear. YOu could get the 10 18 and all the sigmas and come out roughly where the16 35 is priced now. Also if the tamron 17-28 is as good as it's 28-70 brother thins will start to look a lot different. But I though lets make the point as clear as possible. And since the camera is marketed as a youtuber vlogger camera I though that is a fair way to go as well. But I agree the lens comparison was unfair:)

Excellent 👍 video and review! I would agree with this comment and perhaps 10-18 Sony would have been a better option to use. But it's not the point of the video. I was highly considering full frame and this video has certainly enlighten my decision to stick with my Sony a6000 and just upgrade me lenses.

A wonderful video. Budget is definitely a big concern for hobbyists like me, who are not getting paid back for the photography. And for most of the real life situation in which I shoot, results wont differ much, as I dont plan to sell those photos, but happy with sharing it with friends are sending those to some competitions. So, it is going to be APS-C for me.

Thanks so much for taking the time to make this video, really appreciate it. I was considering an a7iii . . . I currently have the 6500 with 70-200 f4 / 18-105 f4 / and sigma 16 f1.4 . . . that little kit packs well and covers all my needs. I think I'll keep working on my skills rather than spending more money, and creating more bulk with gear I'm not capable of maximizing. Thanks again.

Fantastic video! I own the Sony A6400 and have been really unsure whether I should get the A7iii or not. This video really helped me make the decision. I'm staying with the a6400. The main reason for this is your last point (which is genious): Look at the challenges of your work, translate them in technical terms and work backwards to make your decision. 99% of the time I record from my office studio in a very controlled environment. A6400 is more than good enough. Thank you, bro!!

Great video. I would extend this from 2/3" sensors on up to medium format. The point is that there are differences amongst all of these and each has its benefits and weaknesses. This is the argument for micro 4/3 and to a somewhat lesser extent APSC, versus full frame. "Full frame" is kinda arbitrary when in fact the sensor is a whole lot smaller than medium format. Seems that all the "advantages" of full frame over APSC would be even more apparent when comparing a medium frame camera to a full frame camera. Bottom line is that what matters most is whether you will actually have the camera with you. The bigger the camera, the more likely it stays at home.

Yeah, I even had the sigma with me right there and then...just careless. But it did get the point across I was trying to make and my idea was that you probably will get full frame as soon as you need a lens that APS-C won't offer, that's why I wanted to do the comparison with one of the gms....should have used a better lens with the 6400 though, that's right:)

@Mark10ProVideo
@Mark10ProVideo 4 года назад
That's a fair point, my reasoning though was this. The reason to go full frame is basically the lens options with more dynamic range coming in second - at least in my book - though that is also debatable. Most sony APSC cameras, or at least the overwhelming majority, I see use the 16 50 kit lens - whereas I hardly ever see the A7III with its 28-70 anywhere - truely rare occurence I think. From a technical point of view it is absolutely an unfair comparison, even with the sigma 16mm f1.4 that I had with me, but was too stupid to put on, it would have been an unfair comparison. However I did the comparison with the 16-35 because it is one of the most used lenses and one of the ones that attract many people to full frame sony cameras. At least that's what I gather from talking to people on- and offline. It does exaggerate the difference in price, but I did it anyway, because I wanted to compare setups that from where I stand at least are commonly used. And I really really almost never see the 28-70 full frame kit lens used.... So you're right to point out the problem. I hope I gave you an answer that makes sense to you still:) Again, Greetings!

Excellent video! I have gone from a 6300 to a 6500 and now the A73 I take photos but possibly more video.I have invested a lot of money into full frame lenses and truly for my use I find the full frame a pain in the arse and from my point of view I prefer the results I was getting with my two APSC cameras in both videos and photos.I haven’t done much in the way of video or photos at night that might be the only redeeming factor of the A73 but as I mainly shoot during the day it is not so important to me.I have other more professional video cameras but l love the size and weight of the APSC.I have a 10-18 f4 lens APSC and other now redundant glass but will keep them if Sony announces a more interesting new APSC.I totally agree with your view on the comparison between the two size setups..

Lowlight performance is one of the redeeming factors, but morso because of the lens options than the sensor/pixel size I think. I would not own an A7iii body if the deal hadn't been too sweat to pass on and I didn't see a real need for some full frame lens options. AND if the super 35 mode wasn't as good, so I can use my aps c glas, I still wouldn't own one:) Thanks for the nice comment, Howard:) Much appreciated!

Hey, this is an excellent video. Showing all the things you can buy for the price of a A7iii+16-35 was one of the best ideas I have seen recently. I know this video must have been a lot of work. Just a few comments: 1. Comparing the APS-C Kit Lens to full frame is maybe not the best comparison (scene at the fountain) because it is one of the worst lenses there is (except for the form factor of course). 2. There is the Sigma 18-35 1.8 that many people are using maybe this would be an option if you want a good zoom lens for APS-C what do you think (of course not enough wide angle for your construction site scenario I guess). 3. The night time video at 13:48 the picture on the left (APS-C) seems to have much more detail. I wonder why? Is it because it is a prime lens on APS-C?
@philamonhemstreet8632
@philamonhemstreet8632 5 лет назад
Or keeping it native (with good autofocus), the new 18-135 is a very good zoom lens, and these days is often sold with a6xxx bodies as a kit.
@Mark10ProVideo
@Mark10ProVideo 5 лет назад
Thanks, Bernhard! True, that was a poor choice on ym side having the 16mm sigma with me.....just a mistake. I served to get the point across but I would have been able to show you more clearly with the better lens. That was just stupid of me:) The 18-35 for stills is very good, but for video the AF performance is not solid let's say. I wasn't impressed at all when I tested it for video. Stills though, great. And great lens in general:) Good point! I think so. The Sigmas are insanely sharp. I also manually facused both cameras for the test using the little camera screens, I might just have been off with the 16-35 a bit. I literally did the tst before I had to ship the lens back, so that is momething I am unhappy with. My other guess is that the processing is different and the in camera sharpening kicks in differently, even when using the unaltered standard profile which I made sure I did with both cameras....I can't tell you for sure. The 16 35 is a really sharp lens...I think next to a manual focus mistake of mine it probaly is the processing or ta combination of both. in third place the sharpness of the sigma. The video with these sigma lenses and internal sharpening turned on within the picture profile is nothing short of amazing......in your experience, what do you think is likely the case for the difference?
@Mark10ProVideo
@Mark10ProVideo 5 лет назад
Good point! Good choice:)
@budgetphoto
@budgetphoto 5 лет назад
@@Mark10ProVideo Hey thanks for the answer. If you have been manually focusing this could be the cause because looking at the rear screen it is hard to see what is in focus even when turning on focus peaking or zooming in. But of course it could be that an APS-C prime lens is still sharper than a Full Frame Zoom lens, esp. wide open.

What file format and record setting would you advise for someone using the A6400 for RU-vid videos who is trying to be somewhat conservative about file size but still wants a happy medium of quality? These XAVC S 4K files are massive. Great videos by the way, you saved me TONS of time and the elaborate detail you go into is very much appreciated.
@Mark10ProVideo
@Mark10ProVideo 5 лет назад
I would then simply go to xavc-s hd and shoot @ 50 mbit. That will cut the filesize about in half. Use a sharp lens and set the in camera sharpening to maybe plus 1 or 2 and you will get very nice crispy footage for about half the filesize. Thanks for the nice compliments! Much appreciated:) More questions? Just ask.

Well, since i use AF 24GM f1.4, 35mm f1.4, and 85mm f1.4, this whole theory of mimicking it on the APSC is null and void. I didn't buy my full frame to use f/2
@Mark10ProVideo
@Mark10ProVideo 5 лет назад
Fair enough:)
@NickL0VIN
@NickL0VIN 4 года назад
If APSC had plenty of high quality AF primes at f/0.9, and quality zooms at f/1.8, pretty sure most would switch to APSC. But those f stops I mentioned is never happening (or it can, but the lenses will be just as equally big as full frames), hence most pro shooters will always be using FF. You can't cheat light, physics, and math. The bigger the lens, the better (assuming all other things equal), but like TubeNoob said, just by how much better? A little or a lot? That is subjective!

@lucuslopez6866
@lucuslopez6866 5 лет назад
@@shaolin95 The diff in bokeh between FF and apsc is hardly noticeable in real world practice. 99% of people cant tell what was shot on FF or apsc. The 1% that get it right are guessing. DR if your comparing current gen cameras are practically the same. FF will give better DR in low light. But in good lighting (with flash/strobes/good natural light) the diff (if any) is very minor. Majority of people dont shot very wide angles. Most people will only need 24/28mm wide angle glass. If you need something wider than 20mm than FF will give more glass options.

The best comparison of sensor on RU-vid. Concise, technical, easy to understand , great hands on examples . My dilemma is what to buy to take scuba diving (as a hobby ), Sony A6600 or Canon EOS R or, Olympus EM1 Mark II. All different sensor sizes. The Ikelite housing for full frame is huge, its a chore to air travel , dive with and store it on a boat, however, low ambient light performance is superb for wreck photography (according to an underwater photographer , not me). He says go for the bigger sensor size. I suppose APS-C is the one I will go for since the housing for Olympus micro 4\3 sensor is the same size as Sony a6600 APS-C.

Sounds good to me, although I have no experience in scuba diving photoggraphy at all. I do know however that lowlight performance of the sonys is really good, even with APS-C sensors. Also the fast f1.4 sigma lenses are relatively cheap compared to their full frame equivalents.
