I’m so glad you don’t take down old videos. This was so nice to go back and see the pink gate, your trellis tunnel, and your simple love of the garden and your family. ☺️
In our house. Step and Half were dirty words. My dad WAS my dad. My baby siblings were my siblings. It was so wonderful to here you say "Our". When she grows up that will mean more to her then anything in the world.
Around 43 minutes sweet Miah says “are you filming me??” Made me smile cuz I love coming back and seeing these early videos and how far you all have come. He would never ask that question now and I’m fact makes his own videos. So fun to watch your progress ❤
I'm just doing chores this morning, letting YT play in the background, when this old Garden Tour started to play. 💕 As a years-long subscriber (has it really been so long already..?), this video brought me right back to a beautiful time in my life, a segment in time that didn't seem to feel quite so stressful as it does now -- of course, "hindsight is 20/20". 😅 I do miss this old garden of yours -- the bit of nostalgia it brings gives my heart such peace and rest -- but being witness to all you've achieved is an honor and a privilege, and continually refreshes my wells of hope. Thank you for giving me a Refuge. ✨💕
I could (and I have) sat and watched your videos for hours while enjoying some good coffee or delicious food. The bird and bug noises in the background just make my soul happy
Me too. But, she has inspired me to garden again. I could grow anything in KY and was so disappointed when I couldn't grow anything in Texas. She has shown me that it is possible.
"I love how you guys watch me garden.......like i know what i'm doing....." hahaha!! Actually yes, i do watch you for that, and the sweet, humble way you tend to our Mother. I watch also because you radiate JOY. The world needs more of that.
I know nothing about growing potatoes but do every chance I get because they are so fun. If you haven’t planted sweet potatoes you should try! Those are even more awesome. I was told you could leave them and just store them in the bed, which I did with my sweet potatoes. They were massive!
My dear most of us don't know what we are doing in our gardens, I am a master gardener with years of gardening in a warmer climate. I moved to a coastal cooler climate at the lower Pacific Northwest where the Redwoods meet the Ocean so I had to learn all over again. Through trial and error we learn and then we get a stranger than the normal season and it throws us off but we continue to grow and learn. This is my first summer growing potatoes, yams, garlic, and onion and I am like a new gardener all over again, it just shows me that I will never know it all and that is exciting to me, the garden continues to teach me. I had some seed packets give me something different than what was listed, my cantaloupes turned out to be butternut squash and my snow peas were instead the pea shelling Wando and my Dill package gave me fennel. What are the odds of that many seed packages giving me something different! I needed my dill to be Dill for pickle making so I bought another package of Dill from a different seed company and now my Dill is Dill, so funny how that happens. God bless you dear little sister in Christ may your garden continue to be a blessing to you and your family.
I do grow artichokes, my garden has a lot of variety. You can check out my garden by going to my youtube channel, I am not as well spoken as our gal here but I am a good gardener.
Some seeds I bought last year were the same ( not what they said on package but interesting) . It's so true I'm always learning but I don't mind the struggles because it's just so enjoyable. I just keep trying.
Hi, Jess! I’m learning along with you, and when spring arrives I think my garden is going up instead of on the ground and I will try planting potatoes also. Thanks for the gardening videos, I am enjoying them while snow is covering the ground here in Michigan. Can’t wait to get my fingers in the dirt and feel warm sun on my face. 🌻
I let my lettuce go to seed and just let them fall wherever they want to. I get really early lettuce that starts at its optimal time. The heads grow much bigger, quicker than ones started from saved seeds. I once had a huge head of lettuce grow in a crack in the driveway!
i used to start lettuce indoors but with lackluster results. Now I just drop the seed in at the end of the season or very early in the spring outsidie.
Don't mind me....I'm just spending a cold Feb evening watching your first year of garden tours. Someone on Facebook posted this and I thought what better way to spend the evening than to watch Jess' garden in all its glory.
I don't know if someone else has suggested this, but here are the tips we used last year and we got a good harvest! Cut your seed potato (or potatoes) into pieces with 2 eyes on each piece, then space them out in your box. You'll get a few potato plants that way. Burry them every few weeks as they grow - every time you burry the plant, they shoot off new roots that create new potatoes! Don't burry them completely. Leave a few inches of the plant sticking out. Harvest when the plant is completely dead, not only "dying off". Good luck next year!
Gardening is an experiment every year. It's such a joy to watch things grow. You win some you lose some. We just try to improve the odds.....thanks for your help in that.
The way I’ve smiled the whole time watching this video. Seeing your growth and learning with you has made me a better woman. Thank you for letting me pull up a seat in your classroom ❤
You my dear lady are a precious and sweet human being. I just love your garden walks. You inspire me to be a better more productive person. Thank you for being you 💖
@@76adrienne I adore Jess and her beautiful family. They are an inspiration to me, on so many levels. Some days I'm like .... ugh I donwanna...then I listen to the absolute joy in her heart, I learn new things and I'm back on track.
"I am just doing it and seeing what will happen." That is the essence of learning - experimentation! You are an artist and a scientist. That is what gardening is to me. I experiment every year with new ideas in the garden. It keeps me interested and my mind active. I believe that nature is God's way of teaching us. My garden is an art studio and a laboratory. It feeds both my body and spirit.
I am originally from West TN. I love watching your videos! The struggles of gardening in the South are real! I remember the first time I grew potatoes, I only harvested enough for a couple of meals because I was too impatient! Keep growing, sweet girl, you have the gift!
The birdsong is so lovely. Beautiful garden, gal. It's a way of life. Your children will be so much healthier & happier. ...& its awesome to feel that excitment about your produce. Don't apologize for it, revel in it. Peace, gal. Thanks for taking your time.
So happy I stumbled across your channel. I'm a passionate gardener and aspiring homesteader. I love to learn and share what I learn as well. Working to create my own information outlet and this video is what I've imagined doing myself. Whether I ever get the time and courage to create content is anyone's guess but I will definitely be following your videos! Great work.
I would not be able to do what you do! I started my garden and my husband built a chicken coop. We are now raising 8 chickens and I love all the information you are bringing to my growth to become a better version of myself! Thank you so much! Good luck with the baby goats!
I have watched about a dozen of your videos, and have been enjoying them a great deal. I am old, but still a relatively new gardener, still exploring new ventures and learning every day. I share your willingness to sometimes experiment, or let a "mistake" progress to see what it results in. I've grown some heirloom tomatoes for about 10 years, and they are my favorite part of my gardening! I, too, have a tomato sandwich every day, (often two), until there are no more to pick. Jerry Duncan in his comment below describes well why we like to watch your videos. You offer much more than gardening tips, You are a loving, caring human being, a REAL person, who tends and cares for our Earth Mother, as should we all. Thank you!
I'm having to rewatch these videos bc they are so relaxing. Just hearing the birds and the bugs bring me so much peace. These videos are ear and eye candy.
Mint water reminded me that I had an amazing sweet basil that was going gangbusters, one day I jammed a stalk with about a dozen leaves into my water bottle and it was delicious. Made the water taste bright and sweet while adding a cooling flavor, I just topped the water off all day and 4 liters later it was still tasty. Definitely a fan of adding some fresh soft herbs into my water, anything that makes the water more attractive than sweet and caffeine beverages, especially on the ridiculously hot days... Hope your 2020 garden is going well.
I absolutely loved this video. I am watching RU-vid videos to learn what gardening is about because I’ve never done it and I really appreciated your potato debacle because it shows that gardening is imperfect. Imperfection in tutorials is necessary. Thank you for sharing. You seem like such a nice, genuine person.
I had no idea potatoes had determinate variety! I've already planted them, and I have no idea what they are! I hope it works, this is my first time growing potatoes. Thank you for all of your joyful and helpful videos, I follow you religiously! ❤❤❤
I love your videos. They are a perfect combination of relaxed exploring and interesting educational. And I think it's fun watching you garden not knowing what you are doing (as you say). We ALL don't know what we are doing at one time or another so it's easy for us to all identify with that. It's refreshing.
I'm also in AR. Union County. Grew up here then left to show dogs in TX in 1980. I'm back home in AR now after 40 years in TX showing, grooming, saving dogs. I was also a state approved grooming school. Now I'm retired and building a tiny house in the woods that will be surrounded by food, flowers and herbs. I love your energy and beautiful space.
Hi Jessica, I just want to say I enjoy watching your videos. I know they can be long but for me, it makes my work day go by fast. I listen to speak and occasionally look at what's going on. I'm a first time gardener for almost a year now and I'm still learning. Thank you so much for all your tips and pointers. God bless you and your family. 💕
Trying to survive this arctic blast by binging on all of your garden tours. It's amazing how far you have come, and I can compare my progress, and reminisce on all of your tips I've used to grow my own paradise! ❤❤❤❤✌✌
Oh my-lanta that litter box problem is so relatable. We started growing as much as possible through chicken wire to avoid it, but we still have to chase the cats out of the beds at least once a day.
❤️🍅 rewatching old roots and refuge getting ideas for 2021 already LOL thanks so much for the inspiration👍🏻My goodness how your garden has changed over the years. thanks for letting us be a part of this
I love your videos!!! I love that you just said " I don't know what I am doing, I am just doing it and seeing what happens." I feel like that is all of us. We purposefully plant things we are learning about and excited to see what will happen. Keep it up! I love it.
This girl has the most beautiful smile. She is able to light up any room. :-)Please teach me the step by step process on canning. I have a huge garden and looking forward to saving most of it for the summer months. Thanks....
Love the "Mama Need Some Space Latch!" Love the beauty you are cultivating. You've brought some sweetness to my garden life with your ideas and inspiration. And all your joyful smiles. Thank you for all your lovely youtube video shares. Sending the good vibes back your way.
I am mesmerized by how you explain your garden and how you tell your story. You are a natural and very entertaining. You keep me interested at every moment and I am anxious to see what's next. It is clear that you love what you are doing and that is very inspiring. Great Job!
Better yet add those shells to brown rice vinegar and let it bubble till it stops and that liquid is instantly available calcium. Dr. Cho Korean natural farming recipe. That book will save you money on plant food and help you learn to ferment plant and fruit juice for soil food.
@@MatanuskaHIGH could you use apple cider vinegar instead of brown rice vinegar and if not where can I get it or how can I make it...thanks for your comment 😁
Sarah Larson you can download the pdf Korean natural farming by Dr. Cho online it goes more in depth on fermenting plants and eggshells and fish for fertilizer. I’m not 100% sure about cider vinager but I imagine it would as it’s an acid. The calcium carbonate needs the acid to break down and balance the PH which I think cider vs rice vinager would both do the same thing.
Love your realistic beautiful garden. Your not the average youtuber with a perfect zero problem garden like a holywood actor of gardening. We all have issues thank you for helping us learn realistically to deal with them.
I love your enthusiasm. It's contagious. Love your video's. It's encouraging. Love "It's strangely satisfying to dig in the potatoes." I think you do a fantastic job at this.
I just stumbled to your blog site and fell in love. I love your garden, your family, your lifestyle and your life-choices. I love your honesty and wholesomeness. I'm not a blog watcher or a youtube fanatic, but I am a big fan of your videos. You are a natural. Keep up the great work.
I love your garden channel and thanks for sharing about your favorite varieties. I am a huge fan of Baker Creek. You are adorable and I wish you and your family much success with your garden show and whatever you all endeavor. I've retired from a banking career and decided to spend my time with nature. There is nothing money can buy that compares to misty mornings in my garden. Congratulations on the Baker Creek speaker engagement!
Jess I've been enjoying your videos! I am a very amateur gardener and love your help. When you show us your fruits and veggies can you tell us things you do with them in the kitchen?
Good tip to add calcium to any plant indoor and outdoor. Dissolve a quarter cup of any type of milk in 4 litres of water. Add one cup of solution to a mature plant every 3-4 weeks, smaller plants a bit less. Try this for robust foliage, flowers and fruit, you will love what you see!
I love watching your videos!! You have inspired my husband and I to look into growing new varieties of fruit and veggies that we've never even heard of!! Thank you!!
"Bless that man", haha! I adore you. I've recently discovered your channel and straight up you have been a huge inspiration to me. I'm so excited about spring 2019. You are so knowledgeable and relatable, thank you.
I am now in love with your videos! Thank you so much for all you are doing to help others! You have a beautiful soul, and I am glad to have bumped into it!
Hey, gardening is learning; thanks for inviting us to learn with you! I love the way you experiment; you try new things and share the successes and failures, and we all learn along with you and through you. That is gardening! God bless you all!
Love your video! Makes me realize we're all on a learning curve . I'm growing potatoes in Tucson, AZ this spring for the first time and I don't know how they will turn out. We all experiment sometimes and our plants forgive us anyway. Blessings!
I love watching you! My red potatoes tend to throw a lot of tiny ones. I love them in my beans! I agree that digging potatoes is like digging for treasure. My kids love it!
You are adorable! You make me smile every time I watch one of your videos. "I have no idea what i'm doing, and I hate to talk about things that I don't know about" That's why you have the following you do. 1. You have a great amount of knowledge but you are so down to earth and honest. Keep going pretty lady! I can't get enough of your videos while its 9 degrees outside here in PA.
One of my first years planting tomatoes, my cherry tomatoes grew to the top of the six foot stakes and about three or four feet of plant flopped over. I had so many cherry tomatoes that I used them to make ketchup! This was way before food processors and immersion blenders, so I had to peel all of those boogers!
have you ever grown a 3 sister garden ??? they are amazing so in the middle is a corn stalk then a pole bean then a squash the corn grows tall the beans use the corn stalk to climb up it then the squash grows on the ground so 3 tier garden in one they are great to grow for the kids first time gardening hugssssss from Ontario Canada
I want you to know I stayed up way past my bedtime to watch the latest episode of Jess' garden tour. I got the alert that you had posted, and how could I resist! Thank you for sharing your lovely garden and your beautiful life with us.
I hear you about how satisfying it is to dig up the potatoes! Everytime I feel like it's a treasure hunt, and super pleasing to feed the family with that day! :) Take care Lovely! :)
Love your garden, personalty, and bits you show with the family! Been gardening for decades and I still have "well glad that worked" moments every year. LOL
Enjoyable video. Watch this video, 337 pounds of potatoes! Planted in a big row of deep hay and revered watered. Just laid out in the hay and covered with more hay. So easy to harvest, just move the hay back. This was their first time planting potatoes, I think and first time using the Ruth Stout method which seems to work best for them. I can't wait to try this, myself as I've never had much luck with potatoes or onions.
So happy I found your channel ,I just started a small Veggie garden and I’m pretty excited about it .your garden has definitely given me a lot of great ideas ....and how you explain everything is really helpful can’t wait to learn more 🌻🙂🌽🥕🍅🥬
Thank you just for showing us the not so lovely with the really lovely! Seeing the good with the bad makes me more hopeful about things that go wrong in my garden! It's like an Easter egg hunt every morning to see the surprises that wait out there! Blessings!
I’m glad I came across your channel. I’ve been wanting to start a garden for a couple of years now and finally started about two months ago with kidney beans and sunflowers. I’ve learned a lot from one of your videos on nothing but just tomatoes.
Hey. Everytime I need see a good thing in the world I come and watch your videos in the garden, it feels great. Thanks for that. I'm Brazilian and my English is not the best so there's sometimes that I don't understand what you mean, but I get the feeling. It's inspiring. Thanks and God bless you. ☺️
You may never know how much you have touched lives. Likes and subs will never reflect the magnitude of inspiration and love felt by random strangers like me. Just please know, you are a beautiful soul and you are touching more lives than you could even imagine. I started watching you from a telegram link. I recently had to get rid of telegram because it’s apparently a very invasive and obnoxious app that does horrible damage to your storage space. But without it I would have never come across your channel. So as you mentioned in another video, “you are exactly where you are supposed to be”. I am so thankful for your channel and you bring me peace in these tumultuous times. So many things you say resonate with me. We are all connected. God has laid his hand upon you and you seem to be going the exact path he has laid out for you. I’m not scared, I’m excited because I am confident he has laud mine out as well and I just want to see where that leads me. Truly, I want to tell you how much you have inspired me here in Southern Illinois, God bless and keep sharing your story. It’s helping so many. In Christ we are connected. Love and prayers.
Hi I just found your channel and I love it. For a person that says you don't know what your doing, you sound very knowledgeable. I love watching you especially watching you get excited over the potatoes. We bought property near Bull Shoals and the ground is very rocky so we are in the process of building raised beds to get started. Maybe in a lil while, mine will look like yours. Keep up the good work
I simply love watching your videos. I am in the UK and have just bought a new home with enough room to grow enough for us to get close to being self sufficient on seasonal veg. The whole place is grass at the moment though so the first stage is clearing the ground of the many many many small ornamental trees that were planted here so I can make veg beds in the full sun at the back of my house. We will be replacing the ornamental trees with fruit trees and edible hedges. Your videos are a real inspiration, you are a window into another world that i am never going to be able to visit but somehow the things you talk about have a real resonance with me xxx
Here in England runner beans are pretty much a staple for all growers (probably, as you say because of our cooler temps here) however, they're VERY heavy feeders they like A LOT of constant water - just an idea to maybe get them going again. P.s I love your garden tours it's my weekly treat
I wish we were friends.. 3 years in on my current homeplace! Been uploading videos.. Cabin fever.. Discovering your videos is def an inspiration. You seem cool AF.. Love your garden!
What a wonderful person to help us all do better in our gardens .You are truly a blessing .Please keep up with all the information on growing plants.Thank You for sharing with me.
😂I laughed so hard when you said, you like how we watch your videos. If though we know what you're talking about!!! I laughed so hard! Now that's real talk and humble of you to say. 🌹 to God be ALL the Glory.
So happy I found YOU!!! You are as refreshing as a summer night breeze. Keep doing what your doing....oh and I will take your "the good, the bad and the ugly" all day long in a garden because no matter how long we have been a gardener we always learning and really that is what makes it so exciting every year. Good luck with your potatoe crops, next year. I am still struggling at growing those things.🤣🤣
